Government has described as irrelevant calls made by the United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema that opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) should decline to serve in government when called upon.

Chief government spokesperson Kennedy Sakeni said Mr Hichilema’s call is retrogressive and should be dismissed with the contempt it deserves.

Mr Sakeni who is also Information Minister said in statement issued to ZANIS in Lusaka today that MP’s being representatives of the people are free to serve at any level of government as provided for by the law regardless of their political affiliation.

He stated that government is not surprised that such calls are coming from an opposition leader who has been championing politics of division and bitterness.

Mr Sakeni said Mr Hichilema has never been a member of parliament hence his casual approach to the important role parliamentarians plays in championing national developments.

The chief government spokesperson stated that the Patriotic Front government will remain, inclusive and maintain its progressive system of governance that embraces all Zambians in the development of the country.

Mr Sakeni further said it is disappointing that the opposition UPND and MMD are using the government as a scapegoat for their personal problems with the law.

  1. It is obvious that Saken is treating the opposition MPs holding posts of Deputy Ministers as a bunch of politically immature kids. Their quest for short-term monetary gains has been the whole-mark of this fleet of MMD mercenaries and political prostitutes. UPND has taken corrective measures to curtail this trend.

  2. We need to rise above pecuniary gain when we consider service. Most of those MPs would not be serving if it was not for the fact they are looking at the added pocket to their earnings… it makes me shudder at the credibility of leadership that we now have.

  3. This buffoon is @ it again, does it take Einstein to figure out that if opposition MPs are appointed to serve in government positions it literary weakens the opposition in parliament. Those MPs will more less side with PF

  4. An International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission visited Lusaka October 25-November 5, 2012 to review economic developments and prospects. The mission had fruitful discussions with Finance Minister Honourable Alexander Chikwanda MP, Secretary to the Treasury Fredson Yamba, Bank of Zambia Governor Dr. Michael Gondwe, Senior Ministry and Central Bank Officials, and Representatives from the Private Sector.

“…We Are Confident That Growth In 2013 And Beyond Will Be Close To 8 Percent Per Annum,While Other Macroeconomic Fundamentals, Such As Inflation And The Budget Deficit, Will Continue To Remain Within Manageable And Sustainable Limits, On Condition That The Global Economic Environment Does Not Deterio

  5. Obviously it is a question of limited availability of quality leaders in PF thus turning to the opposition with intent to poach and weaken

  9. The only achievement The Pathetic F$$LS(PF) have made in their term of office is to call HH bitter & hate. Otherwise, HH dont worry we know who is bitter! Pf is a government of fools, nowonder the president is a grade 7 with 7 guns as his economic value at his age. SHAME TO THE CNPS!

  10. Sata is out sourcing for capable persons having realising that there are vry few capable hands in PF. surely is it not shameful to have a shabby looking Information minister like Sakeni.

  11. Bwana Ape please advise your demi-god to concentrate on solving the commodities shortages, rampant load sheddings, fuel crisis, the weakening kwacha, payment and distribution of farming implements to farmers etc instead of fighting the opposition. its you in govt remember unless you tell the nation that the only mp’s you have as pf are all dunderheads and you need the rich resource from the opposition.
