President Hakainde Hichilema has called on the people of Luapula Province to renew his government’s mandate, saying continuity is essential to preserve the development gains his administration has achieved.
President Hichilema was speaking upon arrival at Mansa airport, where addressed residents who had gathered to welcome him in the district.
The Head of state stressed that maintaining the United Party for National Development (UPND’s) developmental strides is critical, as the upcoming elections are about “unity for development.”
And President Hichilema highlighted the importance of keeping children in school under the free education policy that his government reintroduced and championed.
“Do you want free education to continue? Do you want the enhanced Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to continue? Vote for UPND if that is what you want,” he told the crowd.
The President further reminded the electorate that his administration inherited shortages, including of maize, a situation which has now been transformed into a national stock of five million tonnes.
”Your government has worked so hard in the last four years and ten months. We found a broken economy; we have fixed it. Let’s not be cheated. The same people who destroyed the economy want to come back,” the President added.
He also noted that debt restructuring for loans accrued under the previous administration has been achieved, providing relief and unlocking resources for various development programmes.
”We delivered for you, but we also know that although we have delivered a lot of things, we still have a lot of work to do ahead of us. That’s why we are asking you to give us another mandate to continue delivering,” he said.
President Hichilema emphasised that the UPND remains focused on sustaining the country’s development trajectory.
The Head of State is on a one day working visit in Mansa District, Luapula Province where he is expected to meet UPND structures and adopted party candidates in the 2026 general election.
