Police in Northern Province are investigating a case of attempted murder and suspected suicide.
Northern Province Police Commanding Officer, Simunji Mulonda, says the incident occurred on June 11, 2026 in Chief Mumporokoso’s Chiefdom in Mporokoso District.
Mr Mulonda says preliminary investigations indicate that a 27 -year- old man allegedly attacked his 24 -year -old wife during the early hours of June 11, ,2026, by inflicting serious injuries using a sharp object.
Mr Mulonda told the media that the victim was rushed to the hospital by family members and is currently admitted in a critical condition.
He added that following the alleged attack, the suspect took his own life within the household premises.
“Police visited the scene, recovered relevant exhibits, and have since instituted investigations into the circumstances surrounding the matter,” Mr Mulonda revealed.
He said the body of the deceased was deposited in Mporokoso District Hospital Mortuary pending further procedures, while an inquiry file has been opened and investigations are continuing.
Mr Mulonda has reiterated the Zambia Police Service’s strong condemnation of all forms of domestic violence and has reminded the public to avoid resorting to violence when faced with marital, family, or personal disputes.
“We are deeply concerned by the increasing tendency by some individuals to resort to violent conduct whenever misunderstandings arise, such actions often result in serious injuries, loss of life, shattered families, and long-lasting trauma to innocent children and relatives,” he said.
He stressed that no disagreement, regardless of their nature, can justify violence against another person.
Mr Mulonda further called on Members of the public to seek peaceful means of resolving disputes and urged residents to report threats and acts of violence.
He said it is important to escalate domestic conflicts to the Police, community leaders and other relevant authorities to prevent tragedy from striking.
