Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) Vice President for Administration Brian Chituwo says the wrangles that have characterized the top leadership in the party have greatly dented the image of the former ruling party.
And MMD National Women Chairperson Catherine Namugala says MMD women are disappointed with leaders who do not adhere to the party constitution to met disciplinary measures on fellow party members.
Addressing the media at the party secretariat in Lusaka today, Dr Chituwo expressed sadness at the events that have happened at the secretariat in the past two weeks where the National Secretary of the party and the Party President expelled each other and violence which eventually arose.
“We as part of the leadership of the MMD are saddened by the events that have happened at the secretariat in the past two weeks. We condemn violence, you are aware that two wrongs do not make a right. Two wrongs were committed in the name of expulsions of Major Kachingwe and in turn, he invalidated the election of the party President Pastor Nevers Mumba as party President due to many reasons and that he belongs to two parties,” Dr Chituwo explained.
Dr Chituwo said the happenings at the party secretariat has dented the party’s image and created anxiety and anger among members of the MMD and assured all the MMD members that the National Executive Committee (NEC) will soon meet to consider the alleged dual membership of Dr Mumba and the charges levelled against Major Kachingwe.
The MMD Vice President has since called for calm and stead fast among the members until when NEC decides the way forward adding that leaders are willing to sacrifice in order to keep the part intact.
He noted that no party member is bigger than the party adding that all members should pay allegiance to the party and act according to the party constitution.
Dr Chituwo further stated that no member has the authority to expel anyone without the blessings of the National Executive Committee which is the supreme organ to make decisions.
When asked whether his statement meant that Major Kachingwe was still National Secretary of the party as NEC has not yet sat, Dr Chituwo said his statement was clear and is open for interpretation by all journalists and members of the public.
Dr Chituwo said he cannot comment much on the issue as it is still in court but members of the public and journalist can make their own interpretation of his statement.
He however reaffirmed his commitment to the party saying he and other senior members of the party have no intentions of resigning as purported by some people.
And National Chairperson for Women, Catherine Namugala said women are disappointed with party leaders who have opted to ignore the constitution.
Ms Namugala noted that some women are frustrated with the party following the activities that have taken place during the past few weeks and that they have lost faith in leaders.
She noted that women do not like violence in the party as such affects them most than men and called on all MMD leaders to consult NEC when making decisions.
She also noted that the opposition should always strive to provide checks and balance to the government and not insult leaders in government.
Ms Namugala stated that the MMD’s desire is not to see the Patriotic Front government fail but deliver in order to bring development to all Zambians.
She also dispelled assertion that she and other senior members of the MMD were planning to defect to the ruling PF saying that she has no other party than the MMD under which she will support to offer checks and balance to the ruling party.
ZANIS
I have a feeling that Namugala will soon be joining Namulambe in the promised land.
#1 True that Namugala / Dora and many more to join the PF gravy boat.
Am smelling a rat these guys are up to no good I have a feeling they want to kick nervous out
The door is open for anyone to join pf before June 2013
Nervous made a mistake to act the way he did, he was suppose to come out and condemn the way Kachingwe was hounded out of office even though they had huge differences. this did not help Mumba ati all.
I can just picture the rats swimming from the burning ship to a new one…
Brian sounds like a sell out. What is wrong with these fools. I can’t see the point of this so called media briefing apart from showing contempt to Nervous Mumba.
Chituwo this is sight of poor leadership, u should not be undermining your president like this stupid soldier
POLITICS OF POVERTY AND WITHOUT MORALS.
WHEN DID U HEAR OF SUCH DEFECTIONS IN EUROPE OR AMERICA OR ASIA, EXCEPT THIS PARTY OF AFRICA MUCH IN ZAMBIA AND A BIT IN MALAWI. SHAME ON THESE POLITICAL PROSTITUTES, INCLUDING THOSE THAT ‘SLEEP’ WITH THEM.
Ok, finished nervous mumbwe, is being pushed out of the wall crocodile ?
In MMD Nerves Mumba is a chancer and the “true blue” feel robed of the party…this Mumba only joined MMD 4years ago, got expelled/suspended by Levy then sent foreign service & then comes back to take over party…talk about reaping where he did not sow!
Nevers should resign his position without much delay otherwise MMD will be no more. The issues Kachingwe raised of Nevers having dual membership has a potential to wreck MMD.Already most MMD members are not happy of having a President of that status and this is the reason why educated people like Dr Chituwo an ila from Mumbwa has come out to correct the prevailing situation in MMD.MMD members should not waste time in convening a meeting to tackle these issues decisively with the backing of their constitution. We have a lot of think tanks in MMD.Why this mess?
MMD would have fared better in the hands of Musokotwane or Mutati….
I am GOD! dont oppose, worship me.
Then go to hell.
As long as there are leadership wrangles in the former ruling party, these defections will continue.
MMD will never bounce back, forget it!
As long as there are leadership wrangles in the former ruling party, these defections will continue. The party’s NEC should strategise on how to get a strong leader at the top who will be universally accepted by the grass roots to steer the party back to its fortunes. Nervers is clearly not equiped to handle the present challenges where most of the senior people are facing cases in the courts, extremely aggressive sharks snaping at the confused MPs and traitors within the ranks.
Chituwo and Namugala want to be eating with both hands! Hah no way!! MMD is better off with fewer but dedicated MPs & members like UPND. That’s not new to Namugala who was sleeping with Sichinga’s brother and Mutati at the same time and now she wants to keep one leg in PF and another in MMD. She is simply a SPY slut/whore! Chituwo is a tired retired solder with an expired sell by date of Sep 2011! This OLD solder has nothing to offer and even the little salt he had was from Levy! What we want is a slimmer, more efficient and focused MMD party led by Nevers Mumba! NOT the gravy directionless train that is full of traitors and happy go whores like Namugala type whose behavior fits very well in PF!!
You mean even if it means breaking the rules of your constitution? Anytime democracy is stifled by those benefiting from the unethical setup, then we have a problem as zambians. Nevers must prove he does not hold dual partizanship, and the kachingwe expulsion must be proved that the NEC met the quorum and that as CEO of the MMD, he was given ample chance to exculpate himself. Taking refuge in wishful thinking will not make the problems in MMD go away. because the issues raised are constitutional and very serious.
Both Chituwo’ and Namugala’s statements are dodgy, what is clear is that they are defecting to PF soon including the show-stopper Siliya.
ewe doc. do u also mean dat wrangles wil soon dent PF’s image?
Nevers is a hothead without a well thought out strategy. He formulates his strategy as he yaps. No organisation can thrive with such gross misdirection.
Do you have to call a press statement for that? Another indisciplined soldier. Chituwo don’t yap yap. Start those kEep fit exercises because MMD hired thugs might just do a Kachingwe on you.
On the other hand Namugala and Chituwo are testing the waters after a “well” thought out analysis of events in MMD. They will wait to see /read the mood/response before moving the next piece on the chess board. Such calculations are devoid in Nevers
The problem with the MMD is that, its full of people with no class who joined the party because they had no meaningful source of livelihood. Look at the UPND whose MPs earn their livelihood thru hardwork, the Party is intact. This is what happens when put together a group of unprincipled chaps, they crumble when faced with challenges.
They still can not see things in true perspective. MMD = UNIP. I hope you understand. Destined for dust bin!
Never Mumba is on his way out. If he insists on remaining as MMD president, he will remain alone. This chancer and vulture aswell should just leave MMD
#17. Daudi Isabi. What about the number of MPs? All those people you are maligning would win in their respective constituencies if there were by-elections today, or tomorrow, further crippling your limping- MMD.
Namugalas orgies with Mutati are getting to her head. How can she say MMD to support PF to deliver. Did PF ever support MMD? PF punched into MMD rule with lies and that is what got PF into power.
There is no way MMD can be soft on PF when PF insulted MMD leaders and wished them dead.
Namugala should NOT hide in the Women are NOT happy to indicate as if Women are NOt happy. PF wants to finish MMD in league with KK cause KK & SATA never never forgave MMD for kicking out KK and not appointing SATA to take over from FTJ.
To me they are both clearly hanging on the fence. Ki mazazi a Noah ah, hanga around the boat if you want to survive a tsunamic fload. However, the boat too is seriously leaking and can sink any time. So where do honourable men go? The only solution is firm ground, and at the moment in Zambia, it has become a very rare commodity especially for the feeble in character.
go to PF at your won peril Chituwo..you will now lose Mumbwa..watch UPND get the seat!!
Only being supported by one region and you are still proud even when the number of your MP’s have been dwindling since the death of one great man ” Anderson Mazoka.” Keep dreaming because very soon people will start looking for alternatives and neither the MMD nor the UPND have what people wants. Young Chipimo must just surprise you after all, he resonates with the majority who are young men and women.
At least despite all those that worship nevers mumba’ his senior party members have opted to be guided by their constitution. Insulting Dr Chituwo who earned his doctorate as a doctor and a military man, will not help the MMD. Cathreen Namugala is Chairperson of the women’s committee and women are the majority in our zambian population and it’s at any politician’s peril to ignore their concerns regardless of whatever party the belong to. Avoiding the question of nevers mumba’s dual presidency will not help the MMD. The registrar according to records shows he’s holding dual presidency and you cannot hide or manipulate that no matter how much we insult the registrar who is simply trying to enforce the laws created by the MMD themselves.
