Five opposition leaders this morning held a Press Briefing at the UPND secretariat at which they denounced what they termed Dictatorial tendencies by President Michael Sata and the PF government.
The opposition leaders bemoaned the continued denial by the Zambia police permits to hold public rallies.
The police are reported to have blocked the joint political rally which was supposed to be held in Mutendere Township in Lusaka this weekend by the opposition.
Speaking at the same occasion MMD leader Nevers Mumba said the opposition will defy the government until their fundamental freedoms are respected.
Dr. Mumba added that the opposition will fight until the last drop of their blood for the good of the country.
The meeting was attended by the United Party for National Development (UPND), United Liberal Party (ULP), Alliance for Democracy and Development (ADD) and the Zambia Direct Democracy Movement (ZDDM).
“As opposition political parties, we shall not sit and watch but we shall fight back and ensure we have our rights. We shall suffer together, walk together to the prison until Zambia is free,” Dr Mumba said
UPND president Hakainde Hichilema said the denial by police to give the parties a permit despite early notification was a sad development.
He accused President Michael Sata of allowing Patriotic Front (PF) Secretary General who is also Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba of going round to start campaigning for 2016 elections while Police were stopping the opposition from holding their rallies.
ULP leader Sakwiba Sikota accused Government of de-gazetting Chief Nkana on the Copperbelt following Dr Mumba’s visit on the traditional leader last week.
Mr Sikota said Government should realize that the freedom of associations and movements were fundamental rights of Zambians and that people should not be denied their rights by the Police.
And ADD president Charles Milupi implored Government to concentrate on improving the welfare of citizens in areas of education and health.
“We shall now carry out door to door campaigns to sensitise Zambians against these bad policies. Let Government concentrate on improving various sectors,” Mr Milupi said
ZDDM leader Edwin Sakala vowed that opposition leaders would come up with an effective approach to counter react on police’s move to deny theme a permit.
After the briefing, journalists were denied an opportunity to have access to the police letter of denial which MMD spokesperson Dora Siliya said contained some bad legal issues against the parties.
Ukwa is it you who filed this report or is it KK your nanny? Who are Mulope, Sakwiwa and Salaka? Stop this comedy man!
We refuse to go back to one party state.
Failed Opposion parties you have failed in your role. What is your Agenda please don’t advocate for chaos you will not succeed the Lord will protect our great nation.Nevers which side are you you are evening vomiting blood like the enemy
@Add value
I am at a loss in trying to understand your contribution! Are you saying the opposition are advocating chaos by dying the undemocratic behaviour of the PF lead Govt? I hope not because there is only one “bad nut” here and that is Sata and if you want to offer advice in order to avoid chaos, then direct that to plot 1.
DONCHI BABA ASH ASH ASHS ASHHHHH
JUST GIVE CHANDA CHIMBA 3 THE MEDAL HE SO DESERVES FOR HIS PROPHECIES.
Mugabe and Kaunda kn never be good advisers
Bitter fools.
CAN WRITERS OF HISTORY ADD THIS DICTATOR TO THEIR LIST PLEASE. HE DESERVES TO BE IN THE
look at his hand mwe bantu, kaya?….can doctors please tell us something that we ordinary people can see but can not fully describe.
Its ludicrous and utterly imprudent of the opposition to always call the President a dictator whenever things don’t go their way. Grow up, you are not babies to always cry unnecessarily.
There is so much undemocratic and dictatorial practices going on the all the opposition parties.
Put your houses in order before you point your accusatory dirty fingers at govt.
He has a job to do than listen to your empty cries.
Become credible then you will have our support but certainly not in your current state….. Sorry
@Litunga
The unfortunate thing is that the President evidently spends time listening and plotting how to frustrate the very opposition you refer to. There are more stain responses to the opposition than there is to desperate issues affecting the nation.
Perhaps that attention is what is leading to the genuine accusations of having a dictator at the helm of the nation.
Yes yes, he is.. bigtym
AT LEAST HE IS A DICTATOR WHO ALLOWS PEOPLE TO BWATA BWATA ANYHOW… TRY THAT IN ANOTHER DICTATOR’S COUNTRY…
FULL BLOWN DICTATOR INFACT!! WHERE IN THE WORLD DONT PEOPLE TALK! EVERYWHERE PEOPLE TALK ZIMBABWE, CHINA, SYRIA OTHERWISE WE WOULDND HAVE KNOWN ABOUT DICTATORS. PLEASE LUSAKATIMES LEARN FROM WATCHDOG WHO ARE NOW GADRESSING HIM AS HE DESERVES —- ZAMBIAS DICTATOR NICHAEAL SATA-NA….
Next he will announce his new rank….Field Marshall!! AnotherIdi Amin.
Dada
It goes without saying. What do you expect from a man who gets kudos from KK?
What is the motive of these parties coming together?. To campaign or to insight?
Dull Opposition…….CHARLES
Mulope is finished.Nashala neka party. Not even the Lozis want him.
Ba opposition ama jelous!! Lekeni Sata ateke.
Opposition have no stratergy……..Sata alesekafye.
one man parties-ulp ,zddm, add
Leaders are elected and so was our Great Leader!! Most of u voted for him. He is a very good leader and cares for us by being a little strict. Mtendere is too small for a rally, and thats why as PF we never held any there. We are in a time of development and not one of political rallies. Thanks Bo Libongani for yet another correct assessment. S.q.u.e.e.z.e T.h.e.m H.a.r.d
THIS DICTATOR IS MISSING ONE POINT ZAMBIANS ARE NOT DULL. YOU OPPOSITION JUST INCITE PEOPLE TO RISE AGAINST THIS DICTATOR. WE SHALL JOIN YOU. DICTATORS LAST BUT NOT FOR LONG AND THEIR ENDING IS ALWAYS DISASTROUS.
Hullo all of you opposition parties: The reason you will never hear the US opposition saying the President is a dictator is because the American constitution doesn’t allow him the powers to dictate. So you must vigourously and soberly participate in the constitution making process and make sure the president doesn’t possess so much power that he can dictate.
They just keep shouting at anything any time. they have no time to focus on the constitution. Shame on them.
Well said.
What opposition who only talk of bad of the incumant leader! From day one, they have never given him chance. They critize everything, choosing ministers from those he worked with in opposition is wrong, create districts is wrong, build stadia is wrong build universities is wrong, rebase currency is wrong, roads construction project, rename airports is wrong, go on foreign trips is wrong, be of good health they want Sata dead, reposses ZR is wrong, no rallies but lets work for people is wrong, link up with KK is wrong. My God, what will be good in the eyes of these young folks!? Give the big man chance to rule the nation, he means well, he is old enough and experienced. Most of you are pretenders, you will just come and destroy the country through carelessness.
What about sata when he was in opposition…what dd he do banda?have you tried to find or you dont know what sata did? Do you realily know your serpent SATA…
These tu Mtembas should learn to stand on their own. Especially HH. If Sata was a dictator a lot of people will not be insulting him day in day out like the ZWD. Infact people have abused Sata’s grace so much that even Chanda Chimba can start talking today. Mr President finish your projects, we know were our NRCs and Voter Cards are. If we see defeat we call for our backup in chiengi and let these Tongas learn.
The uniform gives him all the indications of a dictator or military strongman. You’ll never see established democracies having their leaders in uniform because there’s a clear military/civilian leadership separation.
do you know what occation he put on that? he is the Commisioning graduating Airforce personnel.
democrat or dictator, you definately need to be firm or the opposition will ever take you for granted. One has to firmly govern the country or these young folks who have no secrets, no respect, nor appreciation that you are their leader will ruin your presidency with impunity for they are too fast and furious but going nowhere at all. Just rabble rousers!
Sata ni mwamuna!!!
Most blogers don’t realise how much damage this Dictator is causing.why deny permit when the law says u only need to notify police, even vikapokola, why can’t they see that they are being used without any benefit. These are the benefits of voting on tribal lines and clueless individuals who have failed to even grow their families…at the end only owning 7 guns then at president…..God allow Zambians to suffer until they realise how to use their brains
Bloggers, if Sata is a dictator then all our political leaders are dictators too. Look @ Nevers, he bulldozed his NEC to expel Maj Kachingwe from MMD and has also threatened to expel his MPs from MMD working with govt. On the other hand HH is big-headed, a bully and has also threatened to expel his MPs working with PF govt, doesn’t listen to no one. One man show Milupi is not a well known quantity, Sikota is unbalanced, unsure of his political career, wherever drums are beating that’s the direction he takes. So you see. They are all the same characters but in different coats.
Sata is a Ruler not a Leader!!!
Enka Rasha @ #27, you point is so ludicrous id doesnt merit a response. However, just to point out to your obviously slow and low IQ that by your own illogical thinking, all those before Sata who wore the same uniform, from Kaunda right up to your much worshiped RB are therefore equally dictators. It is not the uniform that makes a dictator, moron. And don’t insult those men and wowmen who honourably wear the uniform again.
At least RB never went arresting opposition, openly scolding and humiliating people. This man has a temper which makes him wrongly believe every problem needs a “might makes right” approach.
Opposition parties its not time to campaign, why holding rallies this time? just chill out guys its too early for that, just continue performing your duties by monitoring Government programs, unlike holding rallies to campaign before elections, those rallies have potential to cause havoc in the country. Oppositions parties just organize your selves and start preparing for 2016.
zambians will never allow a dictotor to stay in power. watch the space Sata is going in 2016.
When a question is asked most bloggers are not comprehend anything but still the comment on issues raised please.
Its good Sata is not answering back to these juvenile delinquents masquarading as politicians. The president is busy working while they continue insulting him shame on you, look at them.
@24: Were it not for the fact that the Constitution making Constituent Assembly and now the technical committee weren’t heavily filled with government stooges, then one would expect a fairly balanced constitution at the end of the process. If Umwina Zed had taken an interest to find out why people are boycotting the process then you wouldnt have come up with hollow ejeculations you have come up with. This is exactly the reason the Egyptian liberals are opposed to the draft constitution as it was drafited by an assembly skewed towards Islamists. Be analytical!
Thats quite a fairly accurate observation by the opposition members describing Sata’s dictatorial streak.I say Amen to that characterisation.
I was too busy at work, I missed out, even if I comment it won’t change the way you people has labelled Sata. You compare him to so many, soon it will be Nebuchadnezzar.
THESE OPPOSITION CHAPS ARE ALL A BUNCH OF IDI@TS. THEY HAVE GOT NOTHING TO DO. INSTEAD OF CLEANSING THEIR PARTIES SO THAT THEY START OPERATING WELL THEY ARE CALLING A MAN A DICTATOR WHO IS BUSY DOING GREAT THINGS FOR THE PEOPLE OF ZAMBIA.
I just read the headline but I don’t think he’s gotten to dictator level yet but if he continues on this path it is a possible outcome. Hopefully not. Instead, half-truths, lack of conviction to uphold the constitution, indiscipline, unprofessionalism and vitriol are the norm. The opposition does not fair any better as they comprise of mostly politicians that joined other parties or formed their own because the need to fulfill personal ambition is greater than the need to fulfill mandated advancement for all. One nee only look at the news or read the paper to see what dominates, uncooperative gov officials, emasculated civil authorities, dog show antics and general lack of common sense. Are these guys the best we have?
I KNOW THAT THE CURRENT OPPOSITION IS USELESS. BUT ON THIS ONE THE GRZ IS DOING SOMETHING VERY WRONG. ESPECIALLY AFTER EXPERIENCING THE UNFAIRNESS OF THE POA WHEN THEY WERE IN OPPOSITION. THE PF GOVERNMENT SHOULD BE MAGNANIMOUS. IT LOOKS AS IF IT IS ILLEGAL TO HOLD RALLIES IN ZAMBIA IF YOU ARE IN THE OPPOSITION. THIS IS NOT GOOD. IT IS BAD.
Sata should allow them to go ahead with their rally. When he was in opposition he used to hold rallies after loosing elections now what is wrong with him, to be honest am really disppointed of what is happening in our country, Wynter busy accusing his fellow NEC members, what a wasted vote.
We are sorry for all those who think Sata is a Dictator. For us he is a hero and a Leader working hard to improve the welfare of the people. The MMD should be last to complain becoz they used to do the same and PF used to abide. My advise to you the Opposition is to find other means of doing things other than frustrating Govt Efforts, be truthful in your activities.President Sata is the only one who is going to redeem Zambia from poverty and that you have seen hence trying to frustrate him.You did the same when he was in opposition but God did not listen to you this time. Regards
