CHIPATA Municipal Council has said it is shocked with the extent of the damage on the recently tarred townships roads in Chipata District.
Council Public Relations Officer Taonga Kaonga said that the roads that were tarred by Sable Construction Company have become an inconvenience because they have developed a lot of potholes.
Ms Kaonga said that the local authority would seek audience with the construction company to find out why potholes could develop on the roads which were recently tarred.
She also expressed shock that shoulders of most roads have been eaten up describing it as pathetic.
She said that the council was expecting the contractor to understand the type of terrain in Chipata so that the tarmac should have been strong enough to contain the heavy loads.
Ms Kaonga said the local authority would also raise the issue of poor drainage system that has seen siltation on most roads due to running water from the hills.
And when contacted for a comment, Sable Managing Director Nazir Aloo said that he would send his engineers to carryout an assessment before issuing a public statement.
Meanwhile Lundazi District Commissioner, Janet Mvula t has expressed worry with how Sable Construction Company was carrying out works on the Chipata-Lundazi road.
She has wondered whether the tarring project would be completed stating that the contract was overdue by nine months.
Ms Mvula has advised Sable to consult from other companies on how to do tarring works
And Mr Aloo defended his company stating that the works, which were supposed to be completed next year were moving according to schedule.
Mr Aloo explained that the company has even moved further to start working on township roads in Lundazi.
He stated that works on the Chipata-Lundazi road have reached an advanced level.

Companies should not complain about Government giving contracts to foreigners because atleast foreign companies do what they are suppoed to do.
Why engage such a crooked company in the first place??? It’s common knowledge that Nazir and his brothers have been robbing of our own government and and these sable brothers are the worst employers. I have no doubt that they don’t even pay tax. Sable has no capacity to execute a professional job but the problem is that most of the government reps have been compromised. The province will be repairing roads every year or as long as sable is involved.. Chipata council, just take legal action and recover your cash from this crooked company!!!!
These guys were eating and drinking with RB and MMD. Thats how they stole our money through building weak roads. They don’t tar the roads but paint them and yet they were given extravagant sum of money for the shoddy work they do. Sable does not know road building. Can the PF terminate all the contracts of Sable please.

If a contractor has done shourd work, contract law demands that works are redone on contractor’s expense.
If roads are failing in chipata, sable construction, should move in and repair the damaged roads. Any construction work has warranty and retention; this shud be taken serously and calprits should pay for poor workmanship.
Just terminate the contract and give it to the Japanese company working on C/B komboni roads

Some of these companies must not be paid these borrowed funds. This is the same as borrowing money and burning it up.
This shameful to our Zambian Civil Engineers really!! We have all these highly educated graduates who cant even build or mantain roads…ma Rubish!! After nearly 50 years of independence and we still need Indians, Chinese or Japanese for such simple manual jobs to build our roads! No ….. it means we have no leaders in Zambia!!
Sable construction has Zambian employees, that is why Chinese come with their own workers.
I saw a bridge constructed by sable construction in Chongwe rural area and it collapsed with the onset of the first rains!! Only crooked governments can give such a company any project in our country. In addition, RB gave this company thousands of hectars of land in addition to the thousands of hectares of land give to it by the chief in Chongwe rural. Crooks never do any good to any country, and Zambia is no exception.

Michael Lungu Bsc Civil engineering from UNZA, is one of the key engineers of sable after the boy was fired in RDA due to theft/corruption with SABLE , then sable employed him, so its easy when Michael was RDA REGIONAL ENGINEER in eastern province, he crooked with SABLE TO DO SHODDY works. A good hint isnt it??????
I have known the sable brothers for a long time, they are a bunch of crooks and they must have bribed RB to get contracts.
If I am not mistaken late Mwanawasa has banned Sable to do any road you can go to NCC you can find the record there . In the meantime they have been struglling with Chipata Mfuwe road .
The whole system is a gravy train for these companies that has cost the tax payer billions of dollars over the years…

The Chipata-Lundazi road and the road leading to Chavuma from Solwezi, the Kasama-Samfya one, they all seem to have similar predicaments: they are always incomplete, throughout the reigns of the various presidents; why is that?
They don’t have all the required road equipment like the 3 wheeled hammer .. clay soil + stones = potholes after months or years of driving on such road :d

Cancel all Sable contracts as they are not specialised in building roads but rather transportation of goods. They should be made to repay all monies they have falsely claimed for fake completion of work done. Engineers that have signed off work after being bribed must be prosecuted and black listed. – corruption  is an evil that must be uprooted starting with Sable

RB awarded road construction contracts? I thought that was the RDA prerogative. Where does RB fit in? It’s not like contracts were awarded from state house as is the case now.
