Police Spokesperson Elizabeth Kanjela said the incident occurred around 22:45 hours in Kalingalinga compound at a Mr. Castro Chabala’s shop.

Ms. Kanjela said the criminals, who were armed with a pistol, attacked Mr. Chabala in his shop and robbed him of K3 million cash and talk time for all networks worth K2.5 million.

She explained that when the deceased, identified as Jane Chiona who was selling in a makeshift shop next to Mr. Chabala’s shop went to see what was happening at the neighbour’s shop, the criminals shot her in the chest killing her instantly.

Ms. Kanjela said the body of the deceased is lying in the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) mortuary awaiting post-mortem.

The Police Spokesperson further disclosed that no arrests have been made so far but said investigations into the matter have continued.

  1. In Zambia we must wake up and take control of our country. MHSRIP by the way. Killing and all other forms of anarchy are everyday increasing, taxi drivers, students maids being killed, mailoni brothers going on and about, ZP, ZA GRZ you are a huge embarrassment to Zambians, Africa and the World. Arresting political opponents without any reason, appointing friends, relatives , uneducated and undeserving individuals with court cases and forged documents as ministers , creating districts. witch hunting and back stabbing each other in the ruling party, endless strikes and commands from plot 1. All because of greediness and total lack of leadership and foresight. We as Zambians are have failed in everything. One more year wasted. Mr Sata is this really what you wanted to do for Zambia?

  2. #2&3 you UPND cadres, stop being bitter about life, criminals have been among the world and they will be there even in imaginary country were the under5 will rule-melo up. How I wish your comments will be filter out the way your hate site the ZWD is filtering other comments. There was Mushala during Kaunda, the list is endless. Enjoy the festive season.

    • Criminals have been around in the world so PF should let them and just arrest political opponents? Is this all you can say ? You make useless noise like a hungry dog!

    • Shooting & killing is rampant even in USA recently a man shot dead several school children so its not about PF but the world bad inclination of the LAST DAYS.

  3. But the fact still remains that another precious life has been lost under the watchful eyes of Libongani and Jere, who are busy watching Dr Mumba, HH and others instead of protecting innocent Zambian citizens. Where does hate fit in. You boggle the mind with your unreasonable argument.

    • please dont be so emotional my friend, we all know that we dont have edequet police force in Zambia, even anywhere in the world, such crimes happen everywhere and i hate it when you try to bring politics in everything, the police cannot be everywhere at every time, we can just hope that the criminals will be arrested sooner than later.

    • Musoli you have run out of words to support you under perfuming PF, no enough police for criminals but more than enough to go round following Mumba? Shame indeed.

    • guana remember that wherever these guys go they are given police security, are u saying that the police should also pull out so as to let nervous go without protection, remember that he may go to areas that are PF strongholds and they may want to lynch him and the police have to be there all the time, besides, are u telling me that if the police did not go to arrest Mumba then  this incident would have been avoided or you are just plain stupid?

  4. 90 days has not elapsed yet since CNP came in to power/ where is the money. thieves will not kill for money if 90 days promises are honoured. am i talking to myself? where is 90 days?

  5. I feel a lot more safe in China than in my own country. This is quite shameful. I can walk from one end of the city to the other end at any time without any fear.

    • dude i’m in china too and its quite safe but that is not to say that there is no crime here, just recently there was a guy who used to kill people and rob them, he did this for 4 long years and the police could not find him, he was arrested just few months ago, another thing is in China there is huge supression of freedom of speech association not to mention complete ban on guns, not evevn security guards have guns. you want Zambia to be like China u got a lot to change, things that you woudnt accept. there is no free media here which means you only hear what the government tells you.

  6. #6 leave #2&3 alone. PF is wasting time and money oppressing Mumba and HH instead of letting the police look for criminals. Women & everyone should rise up and march to State house over the senseless killing of this woman like the way Indians have marched over the bashing of the now dead medical student. Capital punishment should be the fate of everyone who sheds blood in circumstances like this Kalingalinga woman’s death.

  7. Selling in the night in places like Kalingalinga should also be banned. In developed countries, you will only find one or two super stores like Woolworth’s in secure shopping malls trading past 20 hours. We can’t allow shops in Kalingalinga trade past 20 hours when we don’t even have CCTV cameras to capture criminal activities at night (or during the day). Hope the family will be compensated.

  8. Climinals have always been ther and it does no matter who is the president.blaming  the gorvermnent is irrational and unreasonable. The police are doing a good job in arresting criminals you cannot expect them to be arresting everybody in the streets.Police arrest criminals when a crime is committed because that is when there are suspects.

  9. Matolokoshi, stop commenting when you dont know what you are saying, the Indian incident is totally different from this one, firstly those people marched in India because such crimes are never or rarely investigated properly, the government always turns a blind eye to such barbaric actions therefore people marched so as to force the government or shall i say to attract political will in the fight against raping which is a very common thing in India. it took the Indian government 2 weeks to respond to such crazy happening, while in Zambia is this an isolated incident and the police moved in swiftly although they have not arrested the culprits yet. i dont see any need for people to mach at all. for ur infor here in China people sale things theough the night, so dont thnk evry country is sem

    • my friend I’m here to further my studies am not even on government scholarship, i depend on myself and am not miopic like you, poticizing everything. even if HH was to president today such thing would continue it takes a long time to change things and crime will always be there.

  10. BOZ has not done much in allaying the uncertainties surrounding the re-basing of the kwacha, leading to pipo hoarding on to the old kwacha, hence criminals targeting them.

  11. All due to Sata’s failed leadership that crime has gotten high.Hounding the opposition has been the only obsession such that criminals have free reign.Put MMD back if you want more money, improved security and more ubunga.

  12. let us be patriotic in all that God has blessed us with, all the natural resources must well be managed. In that case then, there will be no injustices whatsoever.leaders in power and those in opposition should just be there to work together in order to solve problems faced by most zambians(use resources wisely).all kinds of leadership in this world have got a bad and good face,we can”t run away from it at all.understand and appreciate that all governments in place are Gods plans and for a reason, remember man is just the same everywhere.UNIP,MMD and now PF thank God!i believe PF will do its part and not everything they are not GOD but man/people born of fresh bound to mistakes, give them a chance.
