THE opposition MMD and UPND should stop blaming the Patriotic Front (PF) for their self-inflicted political problems, director for Media and Publicity, Chanda Mfula has said.
Mr Mfula said it was not the responsibility of the ruling PF to organise and manage opposition parties.
The opposition MMD had of late accused the PF of masterminding confusion that had rocked it and leading to the resignation of Members of Parliament and provincial leaders.
“Therefore the two parties should realise that they are political competitors to the PF despite the fact that they have so far offered very poor competition,” Mr Mfula said.
Mr Mfula attributed the poor performance by the two opposition parties to having concentrated on copying strategies and tactics that the PF had employed during the time it was in the opposition.
Mr Mfula said the MMD and UPND had failed to appreciate changes in the politics obtaining in the country.
He said the PF had continued to grow because it had based its strategies on differentiation through offering Zambians new leadership than usual rhetoric.
“In contrast, the MMD and the UPND have chosen to be market followers by copying what the market leader PF is doing. The PF wishes to further assure that the nation that multiparty democracy in the country does not depend on the existence of the MMD and UPND,” he said.
He said though it was highly likely that the two political parties would go into oblivion, the country would not revert to a one-party system because there were other parties that would continue playing a role in the multiparty political setup of the country.
He said the ruling party had kept its sights on improving service delivery, inclusive national development and strengthening the democratic governance of the country.
“Therefore, the spate of by-elections in the country is the opposition’s own making due to internal leadership failure and cannot be blamed on the PF,” he said.
The issue @ hand is blackmail. It does not take a rocket scientist to see that PF is behind the defection of MPs (why only them and not ordinary members), not to mention the wrangles in MMD where this namugala has the guts to go on national tv (PF controlled obviously) and utter rubbish to inflict more damage on MMD. If ZNBC gives HH or mumba time on air like they did to namugala then i will believe its not PF controlled

Well said Mfula. For sure the PF is not responsible for the organisation of the opposition. Its like blaming the goal keeper of another team of frustrating your efforts of scoring. Politics are all about frustrating and confusing the opponent. MMD and UPND should just wakeup and reorganise themselves.

How can unprincipled Zambian politicians who merely work for their tummies defect from a ruling party to opposition parties? For them being in a ruling party is a source of livelihood. This is the reason why Zambian politicians are just complete comedians fit to provide entertainment on comedy shows.

The UPND and the MMD should go back to the drawing table and restrategise their current strategy is not effective and PF is having a field day,but we need a strong opposition for checks and balances.

Well said Mr Chanda. PF is not the care taker of the UPND and MMD. Both parties have their own leaders who are the caretakers. Let them organize their parties otherwise PF will continue feasting on them. Let UPND and MMD stop being crying under 5’s but rather work hard to re-strategise their positions. Zambians will not feel sorry for you guys.

No one needs the PF to take care of the UPND, may be someone in the MMD does! Yr thinking in this direction is wishful thinking. In the first place wat makes u judge that the UPND needs the services of a rotten to the core PF, its govt, its leadership and its old brainless president who never saw the inside of a classroom.
