There was drama at Choma district administration office this morning when Patriotic Front (PF) officials dragged a UPND ward councillor to the District Commissioner Golden Nyambe’s office to explain the whereabouts of the K100 million (KR100, 000) meant for the upgrading of some shanty townships in the district.
The PF officials, who led residents of Chandamali, Kamunza and New Kabanana shanty townships, dragged Kulundana Ward councillor Jonah Munkombwe to Mr. Nyambe’s office, bringing business at the district administration to a standstill.
PF Choma constituency chairman Mubiana Simasiku led the residents who openly challenged Mr. Munkombwe to account for the K100 million which the Choma Municipal Council gave him for upgrading three shanty townships in his ward.
It had to take some onlookers to restrain the enraged residents from administering instant justice on Mr. Munkombwe who could not explain himself.
Mr. Simasiku alleged the K100 million had been plundered by the councillor and some named Choma Municipal Council officials.
He said the PF leadership will not allow anyone to abuse government funds at the local authority.
And PF District Secretary Peter Kampamba said the ruling party will not allow people to dent its name at the Choma municipal council.
Mr. Kampamba said the PF was highly alert and will intervene in any corrupt practices that threaten to undermine the credibility of the ruling party.
He has since called on the council to fully engage the communities in the project areas to avoid suspicion in the administration of public funds.
But when contacted by ZANIS for a comment on the K 100 million that was disbursed by government through the council, Choma Town Clerk Mwiya Mwiya said he needed time to consult on the matter before making a comment.

I can’t believe government gives money just like that to an individual & tell him to go and develop a shanty compound. Does not make any sense at all! These must be misguided PF kaponyas as usual.
What else do you expect from a man who has been in opposition since his birth? The 100 million was for his pocket to make up for the money he has spent on organizing UPND. Now imagine how much more they will steal when in Government. They are stealing money as a way of not working with government…this is UPND for you…shaaaaa.

Choma municipal Council needs overhaul of personnel. This was in collabaration with the workers at the council. Most of the workers at the council cannot handled Choma as a provincial capital. Let us be realistic about the human capital at the council
