It’s wrong for PF to adopt Namulambe who is facing criminal charges-TIZ

Transparency International Zambia Chapter (TIZ) has said that the nomination of Gabriel Namulambe by the Patriotic Front to represent the ruling party in the Mpongwe by-elections sends a wrong signal to government’s quest to fight corruption.

TIZ Executive Director Goodwell Lungu said that the action clearly demonstrates that the PF can easily accept former MMD government officials whom it has loudly said were allegedly corrupt to now become part of the PF for political convenience and not on principle.

Mr. Lungu said that it is a known fact that Mr. Namulambe is currently facing criminal prosecutions in the courts and having such an individual represent a party in government that is allegedly allergic to corruption is inimical to the party’s energy of fighting corruption.

He has since strongly advised the Patriotic Front government to lead by example by requesting Mr. Namulambe to concentrate on clearing his name for the alleged offenses he is being prosecuted for.

Mr. Lungu told QFM news in a statement that in as much as Mr. Namulambe’s democratic right to resign and join a party of his choice, TIZ believes that it is wrong for such candidates to be given a second chance of re-contesting because of their self inflicted by-election which subjects huge sums of tax payers’ money to wastage.

He categorically stated that TIZ has got nothing against Mr. Namulambe as his organizations’ main interest is to constantly keep reminding government to avoid diluting the corruption fight and sending signals that the PF is becoming a haven for those who are seeking protection.

Mr. Lungu stated that TIZ will closely monitor Mr. Namulambe’s corruption charges to avoid any foreseeable miscarriage of justice.

    • It took more than ten years for MMD lies to start affecting us..for PF, am not really sure if they are lying and all…but am so sure that the are misreading the public demeanor by such adoptions…and its so sad that its not even three years since they got themselves into office…this gap between government and the people will see this party fall from grace…this article is spot on!

    • there is real thing today, football match. I don’t know why a civilized person can bring up a story of son-of-witch Namulambe.

  1. thieves, inept and corrupt pipo are slowly regrouping in the PF with the sole aim of looting our little reources. I pray he doesnt win in MPONGWE, but alas with CNP in total control….the worst is so very possibble

  2. Don’t complain we told you. So reap what you sow . I pray more hunger and hardship to hit u people in zambia ine Ndi abroad pyee

    • Agree with you in part, more suffering is a necessary panacea for Zambians to realise how our ‘politics of hunger’ attitude in choosing leaders in Zambia shakles us in a vicious circle of suffering as a nation.

    • Octopus: That is very unfortunate of you to wish your own kind starvation just because you are abroad. Remember “Abroad Policies” change. Its just a reminder. Oh and I know most of the people abroad behave as if they have it all. Its not true!!

  3. DOES THAT MEAN THAT TIZ BELIEVES THAT COURT RULINGS ARE ALWAYS INFLUENCED BY THE RULING PARTY?
TO ME I BELIEVE THAT EVEN IF HE IS ADOPTED BY THE PF THE CASE WILL STILL CONTINUE. DON`T FIGHT NAMULAMBE JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE SURE HE WILL WIN THE CONTEST. LEAVE THE CASE FOR THE COURTS TO SAY.

    • Kanowene agreed with you. Where is the concept of innocent until proven guilt. Moreover if the case will take 10 years to conclude does it mean this fellow political career will hung in balance too. TIZ please let us deal with the judiciary, they should start disposing off cases quickly so that the status of someone is quickly established

  4. TIZ says Nalubambe is facing criminal charges in courts of law, how on earth can WE ZAMBIANS SINK SO LOW AND ACCEPT IT AS A NORM for one to be allowed to be voted leadership. THAT IS WORSE THAN BEING UNDER COLONIAL RULE. We need to be upset with our government to advance its political rhetoric at the expence of Zambians dignity. Zambians rise up like the Egyptian uprising against dictatorial rule.

  5. One really wonders what change Zambians voted for. Who was or is corrupt in the MMD? As far as I am concerned the MMD is as clean as any party you can think of but the people in it are the ones that are corrupt( Not all of them of course). So how does MMD’s Namulambe with corruption cases on him become clean Namulambe the moments he becomes PF’s Namulambe? If this is not hypocricy then I don’t know what is.

    • I totally agree with you.So, if Liato were to join PF,he would suddenly become clean because he is no longer in the ‘corrupt’ MMD party. Is this the change zambians wanted? I don’t think so

  6. Zambians can never Escape from Idiocy, until someone manages to run away from his shadow under the african sun. “Micheal Sata “, would be happier and more satisfied to have the Whole MMD join P.F tomorrow Morning. Its will Heal His Trauma (why it had to take him years to get where he Wanted), heading MMD and being President On top of It. I understand him because when it comes to Zeal, he might just be a little behind Me, save he’s far behind me in many Areas

  7. The Big disease which Zambia has is the failure to raise to the facts by the citizens of this country.
The town folks are the major obstacle to the development of this country, educated they are but not wise.
In 2001 the rural Zambia voted for UPND under Mazoka, but the town people stuck with MMD.
Came 2006 the rural Zambia saw the capacity of Levy to deliver and voted for him,but were called names.
2011 came the popular PF and the town folks the wise fools voted in numbers.
Thus, the issue of Namulambe is now history and will win the bye elections because we dont reason as a country but follow blindly.
The meat is rotten, the knife is blunt and the one cutting is sitting in a smoke direction. What do you expect.Total confusion.
    The worse is to come.

  8. THE PRESIDENT HAS STATED TIME AND AGAIN THAT THERE WILL BE NO SACRED COWS WHEN IT COMES TO CORRUPTION.
HAS HE STOPPED ANYONE FROM INVESTIGATING CDE MASUMBA?

PLEASE LET THE CORRUPT COME IN BUT THEY WILL BE SIEVED SOONER RATHER THAN LATER. TRUST ME.

    • “THE PRESIDENT HAS STATED TIME AND AGAIN THAT THERE WILL BE NO SACRED COWS WHEN IT COMES TO CORRUPTION.”

In fact, he claims he is allergic to corruption. True or false: facts speak for themselves.

  9. i now believe that MMD was a clean party. Y are u adopting their mps. U dupe them to resign ask them to join PF and then adopt them. power hungry PF. This show how low u can sink without MMD. a young child will never see what and helderly person has seen even if he climbed a tree.

    • MMD was not a clean party. Just because PF is rotten does not make MMD clean. They are all rotten – and that includes UPND. Zambian politics are infected with the worst kind of cancer, i.e. corruption. Politicians of all colours have worked out that they can get away with anything as long as their party is in power. That is why they are willing to use violence to win elections. If Namulambe is a potential winner, they will adopt him regardless of what court cases are pending against him.

  10. For TIZ to bring up this issue of Cde Namulambe’s alleged corruption today, is simply an indication of Cde Namulambe’s impact has had on his people. It looks like his campaigns are being felt by his opponents.

If he was a Robin Hood who used or misused public funds for the benefit of general populous in his area, then the President will definitely have a slightly different view from yours. For the time being lets wait for the ACC report.

    • Seeing how easy the OP and his hound Kabimba manipulate and intimidate other’s , I am skeptical as to the objectivity the ACC investigation. Hopefully they (the ACC) can actually pull off investigating a official of a sitting gov without undue influence or intimidation.

  11. PF are recruiting opposition MPs as they don’t have any high calibre people, This in turn will bite them back in time!!! Same crooked people running the country, Zambians wanted REAL change not this farce… I’m afraid to say it may be one term for PF if they don’t pack up their ideas….Come on Sata do something new as promised….

  12. DO YOU KNOW OF ANY OTHER WAY TO GET FREE…..
SOON ANDREW AND JAMES BANDA WILL ANOUNCE THEIR INTENSIONS TO JOIN PF AND SO WILL I

  13. TIZ is right in its own way but,at the same time the PF is not a court of law.Let only the courts sort out that evil chap Namulambe Kalimwitobo, muselela kwakaba.

    • Therein lies part of the problem, kicking the can down the road as it were, to address it later because it is politically expedient; every gov. must set clear standards and follow them. Accepting a suspected or known corrupt official degrades progress.

  14. Sometimes I wish it was all a dream. I can not believe this circus? This just goes to show the separation of powers in our system .lol Except the prosecuting authority in this case is part of the executive which is led by the president who is also head of his party. Oh and not forgetting that his sec general is also minister of justice and hence the boss to the director of public prosecution and Attorney General.LMAO. So the same people responsible for prosecuting Namulambe in their capacities as office bearers in the executive are also adopting him as their candidate in their capacities as party leaders.Maaaannn! Not even the comedian Maximo or Boxen and Bikiloni could write a funnier script. Are we seriousssss? Can not stop LMAO!!!!

  15. we voted pf in order to route out corrupt people ,we dont need people like namulambe .mr kabimba please you do something

  16. Rights of accused persons are sacrosanct. Do accused persons vote for their candidates or not? Of course they do. Facing charges does not mean an individual is already proven guilty. The moment accusation and guilt are equated, miscarriage of justice is institutionalized. It seems to me that seems comments from TIZ such as this one concerning Namulambe lack ethical and legal support. Before issuing any critical comments, it is necessary for serious NGOs, such as TIZ to hold a meeting and minute it. In addition, legal opinion and policy analysis briefs could be obtained. Without that, TIZ is playing marionette.

    • The presumption of innocence in the dispensation of justice is definitely a principal we can not ignore. However the people leading or in charge of prosecuting are on the other hand adopting him for a position of which if convicted he might have to relinquish. It seems to me that a conviction is not expected. The president and his minister of justice head the wings that are trying to convict Namulambe and yet feel he is an adoptable candidate this does not make sense. Remember too that the moment prosecution is interfered with injustice becomes not just institutionalized but also selective. He should not be adoptable by the ruling party even on a prima facie case alone. What message is the president sending to his subordinates. He can run as an independent and let the people choose.
