Zambia-Nigeria Referee Still At AFCON

Share

The controversial FIFA referee at the centre of Zambia’s 1-1 draw with Nigeria on January 25 is still at the Africa Cup contrary to reports.

Reports earlier this week alleged that Grisha Ghead was sent home after he handed Zambia a late penalty in their penultimate Group C game against Nigeria at Mbombela Stadium.

However, the Egyptain referee was the fourth official in the final Group D game involving Cote d’Ivoire and Algeria on January 30 in Rustenburg.

Ghead handed Zambia an 81st minute penalty after Emmanuel Mayuka was brought down on the edge of the area.

  1. Who cares if he’s there or not? *It doesn’t matter at this point does it now?

    * Am still pissed off incase you’re wondering!

  2. So ba LT your reports are based on rumours ?Are you not the ones who reported that he was sent back to his home country ?shame on you.

  3. the ref to be sent home is the one who handled the Togo-Tunisia match- it was pathetic. the ref for the Zambia-Nigeria game was ok

  4. …Just a reminder for old time’s sake, remember the DIRAMBA handling of a crucial 1994 world cup qualifier match between Zambia and Morocco?

Lest we forget, Chipolopolo has seen it all.

  5. No need to shed tears over AFCON 2013. We won it in 2012 but we have never been to the world cup… Lets now focuss on qualifying for the world cup.

    • We defeated West Africa in its backyard boss, and correct me if am wrong, we were the only team from southern Africa. It was so supper. Do it again next time boys. Hope South Africa, being the only team yet again from this side of the equator at this stage of the tournament, can do wonders. I am saying “Hopefully” bakwetu.

    • True, let us focus on the world cup and hope that RSA takes the cup because West African countries are to corrupt because ci Hayatou cifwaya fye ifima West Africans ukuwina. The only West African country I am supporting is Cape Verde.

  6. It is not LT that reported the referee’s exit to his country. I read it on Supersport.com. If they could lie that they sent him away, it is very possible that Burkinabes used a red-carded goalie.

  7. Guys like #1 Umupondo has rightly lamented this topic is openning up the injuries even more iam still sooooo!!! Vexed, pissed off, depressed !! so lets not bring this topic to light please LT and he is right whats your point of talking about that hopeless referee, like it matters now.PLS STOP THIS enough is enough. Period.

  8. It is just a pity that our reign for AFCON cup was short otherwise, Hayatou and any historian will not write footfall history with ZED being mentioned. We wired the Ghanaians and Ivorians without pity.

  9. WHAT NEXT? Zambia should redesign the national team. Only individuals, soccer players of certain specific physical attributes should be selected to play in the team that will be preparing for Brazil 2014. Players should generally be of the statures and heights of Sunzu and Himoonde. Short, lanky looking players always fail to withstand the pressure of big build players from other Afcon countries. We love the way our team plays. But strategically the Zambia national team doesn’t fit the description of modern teams that go to the World Cup. Players should also be fast running, and not as heavy as one striker appeared to look like during the last games. The nation should for a change, focus the debate of football in Zambia to discuss the nature of the national team physical structure. Does…

  10. They were the same players we called heroes and today they have turned into villains. It was just our time bane and we can still use these players with new tactics, formation and a bit of encouragement then we can fly again as copper bullets in the air……..

As for that referee, I think he did what was right and there was no need to chase him from the taournament. How many times have mistakes been committed by the same referees and nothing has ever been done, including the famous Diramba who went away with such a boring officiating….

Let my Egyptian refree alone, he did both teams a favour, by awarding penalties. Ba Nigeria kutumpa fye, otherwise they also benefited from his mistakes…

  11. Thank you Oh great referee who ensured we were not knocked out in the second round. We will always welcome you to Zambiia. Only that you moslems don’t drink I would have bought you buckets of Chibuku
