Itezhi tezhi United Party for National Development (UPND) Member of Parliament Greyford Monde has justified his acceptance of the apoitment as Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock. In a statement made available to the media, Mr Monde said that his decision to accept President Sata’s appointment as a deputy minister did not need a long explanation.

“Throughout my political career as an MP for Itezhi Tezhi, I have followed the personal philosophy that I am a free man, a Zambian, a public servant, and a member of my party, in that order always and only.

“I have put my country, my people and my constituents in Itezhi Tezhi first. I have put them ahead of any divisive partisanship. For me, obligations to the country, the people and my constituents in Itezhi Tezhi will always take precedence over loyalty to an individual or a group,” read his statement.

“I come from a very poor constituency of Itezhi Tezhi. And I am not a rich man. But I want the best and nothing but the best for these people. I want to see their lives improve in the period they have given me to serve as their member of parliament. And all my decisions and actions will always be in accordance with this. ”

Mr Monde said that Zambians must unite and join hands and say “we are one country, one nation, one people, marching together into the future,” He called for unity of purpose to lift the nation to a higher destiny so that what had been achieved as a nation should not be allowed to be lost in suspicion, selfishness, and politics.

“We have to guard against divisiveness and all its ugly consequences. And in these times as in the times before, it is true that a house divided against itself by the spirit of party, faction, of region, tribe, is a house that cannot stand.”

“I believe we must always be mindful of one thing, whatever the trials and tests ahead. The ultimate strengths of our country will lie not in money or infinity or boundless resources, but will lie in the unity of our people.”

“Believing this as I do, I have concluded that I should accept the President’s appointment for me to serve our people in government,” he said.

And UPND spokesperson Charles Kakoma challenged Mr Monde to resign from the UPND saying he was in parliament under the UPND ticket and not the PF.

“If it is true that Hon Monde has accepted the appointment by Mr Sata, he should immediately resign as UPND MP because he is in parliament on UPND ticket.

The PF did not consult us a party and therefore the appointment has to face dear consequences,” Mr Kakoma said.

He said according to UPND policy, once an MP accepted a ministerial appointment, he should resign from the party immediately.

    • I think you have a special qualification talking about your qualification. Now why don’t you take it and stick it where the sun doesn’t shine. Sick of you!!!!!

    • Sunshine you are now like a seriously broken record going on about your delusional degrees on and on , its not funny anymore. Next time how about asking the LT editor to paste them qualifications here for all to see once and for all. If i ever came near you i would give you a hard slap across your face to wake up from your deep sleep.

    • useless chap who is currently unemployed; overates himself and worse still has no single recognised qualification!! shame on you!!

    • The president hasn’t done anything wrong or illegal with this appointment. Remember how Mwanawasa started this practice and obliterated Gen. Miyanda’s Heritage party?
Are these the fears of the opposition?

If most people feel strongly about this as a way of demanding loyalty from MPs, the best is to have that provision changed in the constitution.
The same goes for the archaic Public Order Act….

      Problem solved

Expulsions will not solve the problem especially now when PF is still popular and are almost guaranteed to win any by-elections

  1. Thats one wise man right there.Congrats man for not being bitter like most pipo from your soon be former party.Wish you the best.

    • Wait when he get shouted at and slapped by Sata, that when he will realize that he forgot to put his family in his order of philosophy.

    • UPND, UPND…this is backward thinking. If UPND MPs are appointed to ministerial positions and they work so hard to push UPND “better” policies in both cabinet and parliament, then we can see what their government will be like. If they can work with PF and still be loyal to their political party then we can see the fabric with which they are made. What is the worst that can happen? Sata sees their hard work and realises that they are selling UPND. He fires them all and they remain ordinary UPND MPs as before. Keep your frieds close and your enemies closer. That way you will know how to defeat your opponents.

  2. he sounds shallow he does not understand the dynamics of multy party politics and the Presidents use of a lacuna in the constitution to undermine democracy…

  3. These are the same guys that jump ship all the time. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side as you still have to mow it.

    • Wait when he get shouted at and slapped by Sata, that when he realize that he forgot to put his family in his order or philosophic.

  4. The fool should be bold enough to quit like Namulambe did. In as much as it is the president’s preregative to appoint whoever he so wishes, it is also true that without a coalition/partnership framework between the president’s party and the opposition, he should never appoint opposition MPs to the front bench. I mean, how bound by collective responsibility in government will they concurrently be able to fulfill the opposition role they were in the first instance elected to the august house? Sata’s moves are most injurious to the fabric of our infant democracy, the sooner he kicks the bucket the better for all of us.

    • i agree with you 100%. many people supporting such a move do not see the double standard being applied by pf, who want to expel Hon. Lubinda for merely having friends in opposition parties.

  5. Worry about how to maintain your coloured wife on an MP’s salary? Shame on you to cause another bye for the poor people of Itezhi! There is no amount of eloquence that can hide the real reason you accepted the appointment, when you knew your party’s position. Why not wait for 2016 to stand alone in the PF?

  6. Yes I agree, he really sounds shallow, the typical low hunging fruits like the Masumba type with forged cheap academic credentials. Anyway a lesson to parties to adopt credit men and women who are deep thinkers and can’t be bought.

    • i think monde is still young therefore he is excited and still wants to experiment new things in life… but the problem is, he´s playing hide and seek with a snake

    • From above when I look at the divisionism in the country I lough my lungs out. We have tribes and we intermarry we still know that we come from tribes and love each other for life. We do not fight over it. So serving in govt from opposition is ok. We can do it in harmony. If only the opposition accept this then our politics will have matured. Why are opposition parties ever worried about their members serving in govt? After all it will give the insight of how the govt they are opposing runs, based on inside information. UPND must just drop their policy, it is no longer viable. Use the member serving in govt to your advantage. This will reduce tension. Even Given Lubinda should continue leaking information to opposition, its ok.

    • @Floyd Chitalu: you are a typical shallow person. Politics is about beliefs and principles. Each party has its own set of beliefs and ideology that one strongly believes in. To have someone jump from one political party to another implies having no belief in any ideological values. This basic difference wouldn’t make it possible for someone from a different party to work in another party whose belief set is different, it would be like mixing oil and water. On a serious point, I wonder if the Presidents appointments to these positions have any bearing on that persons experience or qualification. When one looks at this, you will realise that these appointments having nothing to do with service delivery but just poarching individuals whose moral fibre is low.

  7. What a sheer waste of resources…Sata promised us a “lean government” when he came in in 2011 now he is creating positions just for the sake of poaching and appeasing greedy individuals at our expense; Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock now has 3 deputy ministers doing what?? Its no wonder this president can not have a press conference as he can not account for all this…

  8. Please some educate me how many ministers and deputy ministers do we currently have i have lost track .what will three deputy ministers in one ministry be doing i thought this is the party that sang small government or is it a motive for numbers in preparation for crucifying RB.i dont know.

  9. I RECOMMENDED CDE MONDE’S NAME TO THE PRESIDENT NOT AS UPND MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT BUT AS ITEZHI TEZHI MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT. YOU MAY REALIZE THAT ITEZHI TEZHI IS ONE OF THE POOREST REGIONS OF OUR COUNTRY AND HAS NOT BEEN ADEQUATELY REPRESENTED IN OUR PARLIAMENT OVER THE YEARS.

I AM SORRY FOR ANY INCONVENIENCES AND SUSPICIONS CAUSED TO HIS AND BY HIS PARTY

  10. What is UNPD ticket? Hon. Monde has explained very well about his ambition and welcomed a new appointment as a deputy minister . Please leave old way thinking of chasing people with good intention. Mr. Kakoma help your brother in giving advace and accept the new appointment together as UNPD forget about unpd ticket in parliament. Its time to stand up and work as team, many people are suffering around Zambia.

    • Thats one point people are missing. All the against voices are coming from people with a personal hatred for the president and not for the betterment of the nation.

  11. Empty waffles from a typical unprincipled opportunist applying politics of the belly. Is it any wonder why the country will continue to suffer, never mind the huge bye election cost.

  12. The boy is pompous, kakoma can you just boot him now without waiting for him to resign.the iddiiot is hiding under the people of ithezi thezi whom he never even consulted.these young politicians are realy disappointing they are behaving doggish

  13. So another costly byelection is thinking fo your people how PF will not let you stand on their ticket. When Sata was in the opposition in Condemned this practice

  14. I have made a resolution, once you are out of parliament and goverment,i will screw that brown thing hanging by your side so that you know that it was only there to ride on your shortlived fame.watch the yellow pages

  15. He appoints one of u ,he is undermining democracy .He appoints one who does not live in Southern province e.g Hon. Chenda,Simuusa etc(even these are now Bembas)he is tribal.U just nid 2 b ignored as u hallucinate.

  16. Well it would appear the people who surround HH dont want to see him in state house. If they did, they would not have supported actions that dont add value to his chances. HH should watch himself. These same Kakomas and like may be eying his position. Politics has no permanent enemies or friends.

  17. Good decision Monde. Let the rest in UPND live in the world of fantacy and illusions. There is too much anger and hate by people in your party. By the way, remind HH that he will be president of our country kapuli kakwe.

  18. Cheap politics he should resign and stand under PF ticket. The only problems with such appointments is how does the MP vote in parliament when it comes to issues which are against his party manifesto which he was elected under ?. These appointments only strength the ruling party in parliament. its not a coalition government and opposition MP who accepts such appointments should resign immediately.

  19. The sad part is most MP s come from rural areas and poverty is written all over, such positions very tempting for them.

  20. UPND don’t want to work with PF but they want to work with Given Lubinda to destabilize the government, politics of double standards fake.

  21. How can stupid people support Sata to appoint a third deputy minister at Ministry of Agric? This appointment is not genuine but rather a gimmick to test UPND. If there was need to appoint a third deputy minister, what justification has he given? Why cant he pick from his PF MPs? UPND should teach the ***** a lesson by firing him. This Sata and PF are serious about killing democracy in Zambia. Every well meaning Zambian should be able to read that the country is going backwards..

    • Roue

You need to think above average. Democracy cannot die when UPND dies. The opposition need to be above board for them to be apealing to the public and earn support.

Zambia’s democracy will not die just because UPND and MMD are breathing their last breath.

  22. UPND needs to hire a wise political advisor for it to survive, it does not mean becasue Sata expelled label MPs UPND should expell those that accept Minestirial positions.

If UPND was, what we need a political party to be, we could be saying they would be forming the next Government in 2016.

Advice, DO NOT USE ALL TACTICS SATA USED TO DEFEAT MMD. 2016 will be a Technocratic election. As for 2011 we just wanted RB and team to go but this one will be tougher.

  23. So sad. If Monde is expelled, he can’t win itezyi tezyi. That’s the truth. Chizyuka tried really very hard and failed and yet he is a “native” of that area unlike Monde. So where do we go from here folks? Zambian politics very sad indeed.

    • You, my friend are a level headed man. All these tribal bloggers on this site do not understand. This young boy has screwed up. It seems most people do not understand the importance of having an opposition. Just as he is foolishly justifying his appointment, he has an important role to play in the opposition. He is so done this boy.

  24. @ROUE

“HOW CAN STUPID PEOPLE SUPPORT SATA TO APPOINT A THIRD DEPUTY MINISTER AT MINISTRY OF AGRIC?”

I WOULD RATHER SUPPORT ANYONE WHO IS TRYING TO CONSTRUCT ANOTHER DUAL CARRIAGE WAY, RESUSCITATE ZR ETC RATHER THAN A PLUNDERER IN WAITING, RB & CHILUBA’S BLUE EYED GUY, WHO CAN NOT EVEN OPENLY TELL THE NATION THE INVESTMENTS WHICH HAVE GIVEN HIM/HER THE WEALTH……

    NO INSULTS PLEASE!

    • You know what? Thats the point UPND could have raised for refusing the appointment and latter expel the mp if he doesnt agree with that. But read their reasons; they go for the most stupid reason for expelling him. God Forbid thats our government in waiting. I mean in 30 years UPND might be in power.

    • That smelling Minister of Information and his superstar bonker Kabimba have been calling for Lubinda’s blood accusing him of working with the opposition. I just wonder how these PF guys think; they must be using their bottoms to rule us. We shouldn’t accept people to jump on us as if it’s their wives in bed. We need respect. This country is on a self destruction path unless this Sata goes. The man spends his time just planning how to hurt others. He has no development agenda. The only job description of a President he knows is appointing fake Ministers. The man is just some lunatic from outer space.

  25. Guys lets be realistic, every MPs dream is to serve as minister at some point.Thats the side of the bread with butter, who amongst you would refuse an appointment of nature in this economy?Forget morality, this man has a family to take care of,just being an MP in a party without a future is not enough, let him enjoy the benefits that come with the appointment.Congrats ba Monde.

  26. A Member of Parliament has multifarious responsibilities, which include the following:
    1. Party Responsibilities
In a multi-party parliamentary democracy, individuals become members of political parties because they believe that their party policies are broadly correct though they may disagree in a few areas. Candidates are voted to Parliament with the endorsement of their parties. Consequently, a Member of Parliament has the responsibility to articulate his/her party’s policies both in the constituency and in the House…..Clerk of the National Assembly

  27. Ka Mushota. You are just a low down illiterate and worthless biatch staying in the copperbelt province. Your main occupation is looking for employment…LOL

  28. These appointments could either be a way of trying to recontest seats through bye elections or a method of weakening oppositon parties financially by inducing costly campaigns. Either way the idea is a misdirection of public and private funds.

  29. The bitter peoples party and their supporters were the ones shouting loudest when the President appointed some older politicians to some positions. Here the President is giving an opportunity to a youth a young man to take up the challenges of helping him lead the country and the usual the bitter people’s party are the ones complaining and want to stop future leader from getting work experience free of charge without waiting for someone with presidential dreams to fulfull his. Mwaice good you have accepted the position and you have our support. Itezhi Tezhi has been given a chance to have someone in government. Let them expel you and we shall vote you back even as an independent or PF candidate.

  30. Zambians are suffering in several ways ever since the PF came to power. This time here comes the birth of yet another MOLE. Monde is one of several unprincipled learner politicians who have joined politics for the sake of serving their own personal interests – for monetary gains. He is even growing cheeky towards the Patry that sponsored him as the Iteshi Teshi MP. Both UPND and MMD must stand firm to punish such selfish characters who are bent on destroying the tenets of democracy in Zambia. MONDE DESERVES TO BE EXPELLED FROM UPND WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT. Zambians will understand the reasons for UPND proper reaction.

  31. Have they not used up all the provision for bye elections in the budget? I believe that what was budgeted for such eventualities was not an open check. This is typical of politics of the belly i.e. me, myself and I. You do not need to be a cabinet minister to develop your constituency. The constitution should be amended so that unprincipled characters like this do not stand.

  32. Ba Kakoma you should be the next person to leave, seems Cornelius Mweetwa and Edwin Lifwekelo are much more Spokesperson than you are. Wake up!

  33. We have tribes, we intermarry and we still know that we come from tribes and love each other for life. We do not fight over it. So serving in govt from opposition is ok. If only the opposition accept this then our politics will have matured. Why are opposition parties ever worried about their members serving in govt? After all it will give them the insight of how the govt they are opposing runs, based on inside information. UPND must just drop their policy, it is no longer a viable policy. Use any of your MPs serving in govt to your advantage. Even Given Lubinda should continue leaking information to opposition, its ok. That way better decisions will be made for the country. We can keep national secrets to ourselves as a country.

  34. UPND will, can would never put bread on his table! lay off all yo screaming njala, congrates ba Monde nomba kubombesha ka? so that all the haters can hang!

  35. 2016 nipatali ka! muzafenta 100 times, go to south africa complain come back faint again until HH to defect to ANC south africa.

  36. This is the most foolish young man I’ve seen in years. Can an MP with such a brain play politics with the King Cobra? This is the end of his career. People in SP treat traitors with disdain. Even the wife is foolish, she should have advused him better. My father always told me to marry brains not beauty, you can find beauty everywhere. He will be expelled and PF can not win in Itezhi tezhi. Pople in SP will never forget how MMD finished their livelihood with Sata being influential in MMD tgen. The same wolf coming back in a sheepskin. What an *****.

  37. These ‘Junior ministers’ are stupid. Why all of them are only capable of being Junior Minister and not Cabinet Minister sitting in Cabinet to make policy? So, they agree that they are inferior and not capable of being full ministers as PF suggests? Under our Zambian constitution, they can’t even act in the absence of the minister whom they deputise. So, wjat is there to accept Mr Monde? You are incredibly dull which is why your constituents elected you to Parliament!

  38. This is an appointment with dont kubeba intentions. PF promised that when they take over govt, they would downsize the cabinet. What has been happening is the opposite. The cabinet is growing bigger and bigger. Imagine three deputy ministers in one ministry! The appointment of Monde is not because of necessity, but an attempt to destroy the opposition. PF needs the numbers in parliament. Monde knows about this PF plan, but failed to resist the “package”. It’s money first, money second, the people last.

  39. I dont understand why UPND does not want its members of parliament to work with the ruling party for development. The people should have a voice to say No and not the party. MPs are voted in by the people. And can serve in any government. Go for it Mr Monde.

  40. Hakaivotela Hyena, Edwin Vuvuzela Lifwekelo, and orchestra UPND must start thinking about whats good for the nation.

  41. Well done mr. Monde but do prepare for by elections. To the foolish one way above their black people in Africa that have fairer skin than mixed or what you call ignorantly colored. Elo utusabula. Twaku south sechelles Nigeria Ethiopia Somalia Burundi Nigeria and eastern Zambia. Biologically black people are the most genetically diverse, Adam was our colour research adamic soil colour. May Jesus bless us Zambians.

  42. Be warned. Innocent Chimfutumba is a charlatan and a mole. Like a deranged vulture he preys on people’s character. He is all over the Internet sniffing out stories and writing gibberish about people and issues he hardly understands. Google his name and you’ll see what I mean. I have compiled his texts in both the “LT and ZWD. At times he wears the hat of a skunk, spraying his terrible malodorous smell. He claims to be learned. Read all his comments (How I wish I could display them). He’s a moron who writes in colloquial English—semi-literate style. Learned bloggers write well even in haste. His writing is best described by one blogger: “so many words with no sense.” His punctuation is terrible and typos aplenty.

    • He claims to have been in class with me. It is not true. He might have been in the same 1973 stream and not 1972 as he claims in some of his comments. He’s so damn he does not know when he graduated. I never met him in 1967 because I went to Chingola Primary School in 1968. At Chikola I was not taught by Cheeseman. I associated with him in the Young Farmer’s Club. Yes, the late Patrick Chibwe was in my class, but not Lazarus Chota. In Form Five, I and Patrick were in “A” and Lazarus in “S.” Ask him what form he was in. He claims to have been with me in the same class for five years. There was no Innocent Chimfutumba in my class. If there was, he must have been one of those dumb students with nothing to offer. What was Innocent Chimfutumba famous for? Anyone?

  43. Ask Innocent Chimfutumba to table his qualifications and credentials. Let him give a link to his thesis or books he has written, then simply google my name and see my books and academic achievements. What a difference. Get off my back you grain-brain spiteful creep! You can’t intimidate me.

  44. Honourable Monde, I salute you. I see loads of wisdom in you. Go ahead and serve mother Zambia and forget about all the lunatics who think along partisan lines. We need people like you to be in government and we cannot wait until UPND forms a government because unless something changes in UPND, that will not happen. Even in industry, employers go for the best available human resource. Why not the government???????????????

  45. Rubbish UPND policy why resign unit is important and contribution like that is very good for the country let him stay and vote for him again as UPND WE DON’T NEED BY ELECTIONS like that

  46. Hon. Charles kakoma UPND is not fit to be a spokes persons for UPND because there is noway he may say that Hon. Monde should resign because he went to Parliament on the UPND ticket. yes we agree with him but does it mean when he accept the ministerial position then he ceases to be UPND? let him think.

  47. THE PEOPLE OF ITEZHI TEZHI HAVE SUFFERED ENOUGH WITHOUT A TAR ROAD

THIS MP IS INTELLIGENT. HISTORY WILL JUDGE ALL PEOPLE AGAINST HIM.

IN POLITICS THERE COMES A TIME THAT YOU HAVE TO EAT YOUR OWN VOMIT.

THIS COUNTRY WILL NOT DEVELOP UNLESS POLITICIANS BEGIN TO CHANGE AND TOLERATE EACH OTHER. KWAMANA.

  48. One wonders why people are saying this or that in support of this so called honourable MP. The guy is as good as expelled and he should start preparing his campaign for the bye-election. Chances of him retaining the seat are next to zero. And why is Sata overlooking so many people who worked very hard for PF? Now we have new arrivals like Masebo, Masumba, Namulambe, etc being more important than the real PF boat paddlers. This is very unfair.

  49. its really agony to be in the opposition, matsiku onse ungo enda chabe okalipa even a small thing niku zazuka!! u go to sasa afrika for press briefing, still no chifukusi relief.I have chosen to be happy and very happy indeed.

  50. WHY SHOULD THE GUY REFUSE, HE WANTS TO SERVE ZAMBIANS. THIS POLITICS OF HATE IS DISTROYING OUR PEOPLE’S MINDS AND THEIR WELL BEING. WE CONDEMN ANYTHING. GO ON YOUNGMAN YOU HAVE MADE A RIGHT DECISION we are a Multi-party Democratic country. YOU CAN EVEN BE VP Nothing Wrong.

  51. mwebantu tamutasha when the president appoints an old man you complain and when he appoints a youth you insult.mwaba shani mwefibantu kanshi.viva pf the govt for the people and by the people an inclusive govt.eg the youths ,deputy ministers, masumba, keith, monde, forrie, sampa, kapata, cosamu………………..and permanent secretaries are, amos, chiboga, nkulukusa mwaba………so thanx to the president.

  52. She is not coloured. am lighter than her. the colored woman is lyato’s wife. please differentiate i know her and she is using carol lite cream mix with lemonvate tube.

Monde is quiet young. next time we need mature principled MPs. shame on you.

  53. Why is it that people are hurt with the appointment of their fellow Zambians especially the ones claiming to be graudautes. As graduate just get employed using you degree why should it hurt you to see someone with no degree getting a job like this one. Ama degree ya goggle ba kapoli.

  54. i think SATA played it well in opposition than these empty tins we are seeing now, they are too vibrant for nothing instead of selling themselves they are busy giving themselves on credit and Zambians are clever kaa! they will never give your back a vote

  55. Intresting times for UPND more than PF, The way UPND, HH and to very little extent the eletorate in Itezhi Tezhi react to this will have a telling effect on UPND more than PF. IT IS THE 1st time a UPND MP has accepted a govt position. I ve got a sneaky feeling that there are some more lined up but PF is just testing the waters with this one. Most likrly the MP will be expelled and lose the by election. But he WILL almost certainnly be sent in diplomatic serviceor appointed PS etc and that will give impetus to those UPND MPS STANDING ON THE FENCE. ONCE THAT HAPPENS THEN IT WILL BE THINGS SLOWLY BUT SURELY FALL APART IN UPND. TRUST ME. THIS NOT A 5 MINUTES QUICKIE BY PF. ITS A LONG SESSION WITH THE ELECTORAL/POLITICAL ORGASM TO BE ACHIEVED & PLAYED OUT WELL INTO THE FUTURE.
