PF officialy declared winner of Mpongwe Bye Election

Share

The ruling Patriotic Front (PF) has scooped the Mpongwe parliamentary by election with a margin of 1531 votes.

Mpongwe parliamentary by election Returning Officer Joackim Mangwale who declared Gabriel Namulambe as the solely elected Member of Parliament for Mpongwe constituency said the PF candidate polled 4,600 votes while his closest rival, UPND’s Rapson Chilufya got 3, 069 votes.

Mr Mangwale said MMD’s Minniver Mtesa polled 901 votes while NAREP’s Reagan Ndhlovu was in fourth position with 588 votes and Kenny Kuveya of UNIP was in fifth position with only 110 votes.

And speaking shortly after being declared winner at 11:00 hours Mr Namulambe said time for politicking in Mpongwe had come to an end and further called upon all the losing candidates to work with him in developing the area.

Meanwhile the opposition UPND losing candidate Mr Rapson Chilufya has conceded defeat and advised the winning candidate to adhere to promises made during the campaign period.

“I have conceded defeat, the winner told the people of Mpongwe that if they wanted to see development they had to vote for the ruling party so now we are waiting to see that development,” said Mr Chilufya.

Mr Chilufya further said UPND had gained momentum in Mpongwe and that his team would not rest but keep on stabilizing their party in the area.

“As a party we have gained momentum we shall not rest but keep on ensuring that UPND is stable in this area, UPND is now established in Mpongwe,” he said.

And NAREP candidate Reagan Ndhlovu who also conceded defeat said he was not disappointed with the outcome of the election and that he would use the result to prepare adequately for 2016.

Mr Ndhlovu said the minimal voter turnout could be attributed to harassment of voters by some opposition political parties.

The Mpongwe parliamentary seat fail vacant after the MMD MP Gabriel Namulambe resigned from the former ruling party to join the ruling PF.

Meanwhile, The ruling Patriotic Front (PF) has finally begun to establish its authority in the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) stronghold, Southern Province, by winning some local government by elections in yesterday’s polls.

The ruling party has boasted through its website that it has convincingly claimed the Basanga Ward local government seat in Itezhi-tezhi constituency after polling 542 votes against UPND’s 139 votes.

The ruling PF has further claimed another crucial victory in the UPND stronghold after winning Lambwe ward in Namwala while some results in other local government by elections are still yet to be announced.

Recently, President, Michael Sata appointed Itezhi-tezhi Member of Parliament, Greyford Monde, as Agriculture Deputy Minister, a move that angered the UPND, that quickly moved to expel the parliamentarian for choosing to work with the government of the day to improve the livelihoods of his constituents.

But it appears the people of Itezhi-tezhi are fully behind the move taken by their Member of Parliament after they voted for the PF for the first time in preference for the usual dominant party, the UPND, the party they have voted for since 2001.

“The result will come a s a bitter blow to the UPND especially following the decision by another of their Members of Parliament, Comrade Richwell Siamunene, to accept a ministerial position from President Sata,” the story reads in part.

Mr Siamunene was sworn in by President Sata at State house on Thursday as Commerce Deputy Minister, becoming the second UPND Member of Parliament to accept a ministerial position in the PF government.

  1. And people will vote for such people then you complain when someone calls you useful *****s. Look how the government wants to incite people by saying RB through his lawyer has insulted zambians and some people will believe that. Cheap politics and trying to draw people’s attention from their failed promises.

  2. IF WE HAD ANOTHER PERSON STANDING THAT MARGIN WOULD HAVE GONE TO 2000. NAMULAMBE LOST SUPPORT IN THAT AREA BUT LUCKY HIM HE STOOD ON THE POWER TO THE PEOPLE PARTY..THE MIGHTY PF. WEL DONE UPND U HAVE TRIED, CAN U SEE WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU RIDE ON THE BACK OF A BEMBA MAN? ATLEAST HE MANNAGED TO PUSH YOUR PARTY TO BETTER RESULTS. SO STOP INSULTING BEMBAS THEY CAN HELP U ADVANCE YOUR SMALL TRIBAL PARTY.

  3. Our country will experience such situations in the coming months and years. Untill this condition of just resigning and thus causing by elections as a result is addressed, our nation will eventually become a one party state.

  4. Iam always amused by shallow comments such the one above that Zambian voters are only “intelligent” when they vote for candidates or the party of your choice!! When they cast their vote for those you disagree with; whether in opposition or the ruling party, then they are stupid or “useful *****s”! How small minded is that? That’s why it is called democracy; voters vote for the candidate of their choice. Learn to live with it, dude!

    • Chinbwi na Plan, some people with “very small brains” find it very difficult to get simple concepts like one-man-one vote. If their candidates win, then electiosn are free and fair and people have lost confidence etc. If the othetr party wins, then the elections weere rigged, useful *****s voted and a lot of unprintables.

    • some of the current politicians have been promising us the same things which they have never delivered or even bothered to want deliver since 1964 and they are still in government now promising the same things. I just wonder what’s wrong with us the people who keep voting the same people

    • The same people have not been President since 1964 but when the same people had power they utilised it properly and now you have flyovers in Lusaka and other developments .. Mr IT Specialist you sound very Bantubitterstan

  5. Thank you Mr. Chilufya and Mr. Ndhovu for conceeding defeat, you have demonstrated your maturity and true Zambianship unlike saying something which will be of no help to the people of Mpongwe and the Zambians at large. To you Mr. Namulambe this is the time that you should also prove to the electorate that you mean well for the people of Mpongwe especially that you even knelt before them in Church. Please don’t just be too good at talking, we want to see change in Mpongwe it being that you even declared it to be your bedroom. Mpongwe people thank you for having voted peacefully unlike in some areas which are dominated by the educated but full of violence.

  6. UPND spokesman say,UPND will petition the Mpongwe election results to in court…
Reasons being that HH was not arrested in Mpongwe hence the loss.

    • Hehehehehe how do you petition the results when the one that stood has conceded defeat ? Typical of Bantustans , i know that a TONGA will one day rule Zambia but not HH and definately not UPND … Magande is a better Tonga than HH

  7. some of the current politicians have been promising us the same things which they have never delivered or even bothered to want deliver since 1964 and they are still in government now promising the same things. I just wonder what’s wrong with us the people who keep voting the same people. I thank God for the exposure, at least I know what a good government is, I can not be cheated. In Africa and Zambia in particular we are still far from having a government which is dedicated to improving the lives of its people.

    • Stop crying IT specialist, why keep on crying like a little divorced woman. when people chose who are we to oppose, if you don’t want them vote them out

  8. We need some serious opposition in Zambia which can appeal to the needs of the people.unlike the current opposition, Sata as an opposition leader convinced the people(mainly CB and Lusaka where there are more voters) that there was need for change and indeed they voted for him. Verbally targeting Sata instead of convincing the people will never give you a ticket to Power. Pls wake up, HH will not take you anywhere. with him you’ll still be confined to Southern province.Remember KK planted one Zambia, one nation and it is still very strong and it wins elections. Nevers Mumba and MMD are no longer a factor as can be evidenced from the Mpongwe by Election. so please lets open our eyes in the interest of Mother Zambia, not our incorrigible and shollow minded party leaders.

  9. The ruling PF has further claimed another crucial victory in the UPND stronghold after winning Lambwe ward in Namwala while some results in other local government by elections are still yet to be announced.

  10. The People of Mpongwe have spoken loud and clear. By the solid vote given to UPND, the People of Mpongwe have rejected the irrelevant party of Chipimo and NAREP. Mbemba’s who are in the habit of saying Chipimo can win in 2016, should take note. NAREP is an Irrele (short for Irrelevant). I have talked to Chipimo personally and I found him wanting. He seems to me to be too Naive and out of touch with reality. I think he would be better placed as an MP rather than a presidential candidate. I also think Sata is better as a Mayor or Cabinet Minister, but certainly not a President!!

  11. mpongwe is full of useful idi.ots most of its voters are illiterate which is a hindrance in the process of making an informed decision. we are waiting for kabwata and L/stone. that is when PF’s bols will be tested

  12. Zambian politics are nothing but what I may term ‘ego politics’. Citizens are excited when their party or their tribesman wins. That is the only satisfaction they get from it irrespective of whether or not the candidate has what it takes to hold the position. Zambians are mere ladders to be used by politicians to get to the top. In Zambia ‘Development’ is just a cliche. It is only the president, the ministers, MPs and their families who benefit.

  13. twalumbu chikamba ba kwetu kulashala LIVINGSTONE seat one down one more to go Viva PF odi uko ku southern province bana maleya…. twasika alimwe…

  14. “UPND was not such a violent political party as we see it today. Whatever problems or deficiencies UPND might have had under the leadership of Mazoka, no honest person can accuse its leadership of violence. What we see today is a violent, arrogant, pompous, intolerant, tribalistic and regionalistic clique at the helm of UPND. What we see today is a bitter, frustrated, angry and desperate Hakainde jumping around like a headless chicken trying to do all sorts of desperate things. Soon the country will fully know who Hakainde is and what propels him. What seem to propel Hakainde today is a desire to be president, an unbridled tribal and regionalism and frustration with Michael’s election victory.”

  15. It is good to see NAREP battling out with MMD, so we can now the battle is indeed between PF and UPND, we shall be seeing situations were MMD is even failing to filled a candidate. The former ruling party is diminishing so quickly and its leaders are busy yapping and making noise yet they cannot even afford to form a strong opposition.

  16. Congrats Hon.Namulambe please ensure development is taken to Mpongwe. As UPND should not cry foul and blame Govt let them also show good leadership by working with Govt.We salute you mr Chilufya for conceding defeat well done.

  17. HH opened the eyes of his voters when he went to Commonwealth asking for punishment on the people he wants to lead. Let Commonwealth help him out . Justice has prevailed! Finally the EAGLE HAS LANDED IN SOUTHERN! One Zambia One Nation!

  18. ba ZWD ati “Opposition win moral battle in Mpongwe”…end of quote

let us see how Chilufya & his fellow ‘moral battle’ winners will enter the National Assembly of Zambia….just thinking! this is called ‘consoling oneself’ in simple terms!!!

  19. Ba chilufya HH has failed you not upnd.I miss mazoka who got my vote not ba egoistic self centred mapatizya.

  20. UPND and HH are mourning. They don’t know what has hit them this time again in Mpongwe. Worst of all , PF has penetrated their strong hold. Ohh what a shock to the UPND and HH. One will commit suicide going by the happenings. Why didn’t MAPATIZYA FORMULA help them? What a tantalizing loss to UPND and HH.

Peace and Prosperity to Mother Zambia.

  21. Imwe ba PF mwatingela kwatu ku southern province manje ka? Tizamupayani napatizya fomular. Tapaya kudala umozi. Kamula!!!!!!

  22. Immediately they announced the mapatizya formular, the spate of violence increased in the country….The correlation is so vivid. Therefore we know what this formular is all about.

  23. Congrats Namulambe, kindly note that the people of Mpongwe will be waiting for development as earlier promised.Mapatizya is not the way to go HH learn from your mistakes and stop living in a dream land.

  24. OUT OF 36 LOCAL GOVERNMENT POLLS, THE PF GETS OVER 30 SEATS. AND SOMEONE WITH A REGIONAL, TRIBAL, MAPATIZYA-PROPAGATING, MURDER-ASSOCIATED PARTY SAYS PF IS UNPOPULAR. I THINK WE HAVE TO BE SERIOUS IF WE EXPECT TO WIN IN 2016. THIS APPETITE TO CAUSE CONFUSION IN THE COUNTRY AND TO WASH DIRTY LINEN IN PUBLIC BEFORE THE C/WEALTH ARE ALL WORKING AGAINST THE UPND. THIS IS THE TIME FOR UPND TO SIT DOWN AND DO SOME SERIOUS INTROSPECTION. THE UPND SHOULD FIND OUT WHY VOTERS REJECT THEM. THEY HAVE TRIED ALL SORTS OF WAYS TO DENT THE IMAGE OF THE PF. UNFORTUNATELY THEIR MESSAGE SEEMS TO BE FALLING ON DEAF EARS . EARS OF PERSONS THAT ARE NOT INTERESTED IN LISTENIN FROM THEM. THAT IS FREE UNBIASED ADVICE.

  25. IT IS SAD THAT UPND HAS RESORTED TO VIOLENCE IN THEIR POLITICS. THE FRIEND OF MINE HAD COME TO WORK FOR ITYATSI TO HELP CONTRACT THE ROAD AND THEIR
ATTACKED HIM ON HIS WAY FROM THE ELLAIN BRITTEL MARKET. HE HAD GONE TO BUY SOME VEGS AND BREAD. HE CANNOT WORK NOW AS HE IS ON CRUTCHES AND DUE FOR REVIEW ON 13MARCH, 2013. THE FRIEND THEY BROKE YHE LEG IS LOZI BUT THEY THOUGHT HE WAS BEMBA BECAUSE THEY HAD ASKED HIM WHO HE WAS GOING TO VOTE FOR BUT HE TOLD THEM THAT HE WAS NOT A REGISTERED VOTER IN SOUTHERN BUT THE COPPERBELT WHERE HE LIVES AND WAS HERE JUST FOR WORK.
