Share

Riots have broken out in Katete in the Eastern Province with pupils from various schools looting shops in protest against the brutal murder of a Grade 12 female pupil last week in a suspected ritual killing.

Reports from Katete indicate that the Grade 12 pupil only identified as Naomi from Katete Day High School was last week brutally murdered as she was returning from her morning studies going home.

Pupils from various schools in Katete and Chipata were early this morning joined in by residents in setting ablaze various shops owned by suspects linked to the ritual murder of the teenage girl.

Police have been outnumbered by the protesting residents leaving one police officer with a broken leg.

Sources have disclosed that a shop known as Kaysons Wholesalers and another shop owned by an Indian have been set on fire.

Another shop called Mr Paris Shop belonging to a local businessman popularly known as Mr Paris who also owns Paris Lodge and many other shops in the district have been burnt to ashes.

Only PEP Stores and DAPP have been spared.

Police last week launched a man hunt for the killers and managed to nab one suspect who is alleged to have disclosed several names of local and Indian Businessmen involved in a string of ritual murders.

  1. Very sad indeed. May the almighty God comfort the bereaved family. This blood money is becoming a hell

  2. Police are to blame for everything here. They unethically reveal their investtigations to the public and when the public attempts to take the law in their own hands they are nowhere to be seen. In a democracy a country needs an intelligent strong police force because it has to provide protection from people who think they are free to attack fellow citizens

  3. Don’t blame anyone until investigations is carried out. Remember the Livingstone riots? It was in the similar circumstances and the truth came out.

  4. Yaba, indians ritual murderers? Yachita ova. Somehow, you wonder who is demanding for body parts in Zambia. The link is finally coming out. These are the suppliers of a lot of money purpoting to be doing business when in actual fact trading body parts. These shops look shabby dirty and someone claims to be making money. Yaba, yazanda.

  5. Our police are very unprofessional. How do you disclose the names of suspects to the public when investigations are not completed? And this is a very emotional case that needs careful handling. This is the highest level of incompetence on the part of the police. I am now begining to agree with those who are claiming that the police service has been turned into a force by infusing in ruthless PF party cadres with no training at all. The whole idea is to have thugs who have no fear to persecute the citizens in order to instill fear so that people can stop criticising the PF. For sure, a professional police service cannot leak such classified and emotive information to the public, especially to the relatives of the deceased.

  6. Imwe Bantu, stop rioting and burning innocent peoples shops, don’t just accuse locals and indian tradres without proper proof.let the police deal with the murderer. Zambians lets us not use excuses to rob others by pretext. Its time the govt gets tough on these village goons and charge them for looting and arsons. lets stop these stupid looters and criminalswith heavy force before they get out of hand.

  7. Its really a wrong perception to link every business that is doing fine to richeos. This is very ignorant and its like a crime when someone bcomes rich in Zambia.
There are people who have fault hard just to have what they have and there are people who have not done anything to have what they have e.g HH. So b4 we resort to such riots, its better to dig dipper.

  8. AS THE GENERAL OF HEAVEN I SAY MAY THE FIRE OF THE HOLY GHOST,ANGELS OF HEAVEN DECEND ON THESE KILLERS WITH FIRE AND THUNDER,WERE EVER THEY STEP THEY SHOULD BE HOUNTED BY WHO EVER THEY HAVE KILLED,IN JESUS NAME.

LET ME HEAR A LOUDER AMEN

  9. Sad,though there is a genuine reason to react, people should not take the law in their own hands.Police are also partly to blame for disclosing the names of supected retualists.M.H.S.R.I.P.

  10. That’s what happens when police take time to investigate cases like this. Magazi amunthu sangapite pacabe. Akupha anthu kuti azigulitsa ziwalo. Thupid amwenye, mwajayera

  11. Can Some one plz give me stats of how many riots we have had from the time PF came into power?? just for my records..

  12. No restrain needed, the police must swiftly arrest the looters and charge them for looting and arson. This type of thuggery should not be entertained at any cost .thieves and greedy villagers are only taking advange. we still remember the Mazabuka riots of the late 80 when they looted the shop of a very prominent businssman The Bhagoos who has been in business in Mazabuka since Northen Rhodesia days they had nothing to do with ritual killings or buying body parts .Enough is enough the govt must act with impunity on these *****s thieves

  13. The problem is with these muchawas (black moslems) the indians pray with at their mosque.these guys are too jealousy and very bad muslims.always bringing hatred among indians with their petty issues of wanting money by begging always.

  14. Looters normally have nothing to do but destroy and steal.Sad that so many morons on here are actually condoning these barbaric acts.See what happened to Uganda when the hard working Asians were kicked out.You muntus never learn.Find a job and work hard.Bamba Zonke does not work! Without hard work there is no money……
