Former President Rupiah Banda’s trip to Kenya to attend tomorrow’s inauguration ceremony of that country’s fourth President Uhuru Kenyatta hangs in the balance as Director of Public Prosecutions Mutembo Nchito has not responded to request from Mr. Banda’s lawyers to release his passport.
Administrative Assistant in the Office of the Fourth President Mitakazo Wakumelo confirmed that Mr. Banda had received an invitation to attend the ceremony through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs which he accepted.
“As at mid-day today (Monday), the lawyers were trying frantically to get a response from the DPP to have the passport released, as you are aware, the former President was asked to surrender his passport upon arrest,” ,Mr. Wakumelo said.
“Yes we are still waiting for the release of the passport, if it is not released today,” he said.
Zambia will be officially represented by Vice President Guy Scott who is already on his way to Nairobi.
Nairobi’s 60,000-seater Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, will host the swearing in ceremony of Mr. Kenyatta and his designated deputy Mr. William Ruto.

I think the government should not allow RB to travel because he might run away for good.His son is in hiding in RSA and even RB who is accused of stealing Zambian money is likely to jump bail and seek asylum in RSA or some Amsterdam recommended country.Let him stay in Zambia and face the music.Kenyata will be inaugurated with or without RB.!!

I do not know why the PF government wants to embarrass itself unnecessarily. RB was well aware of the government’s plans to have his immunity lifted when he was monitoring elections in Kenya. For somebody who has intentions of running away that would have been the best opportunity to do so. It is now clear that whatever is happening to RB is being motivated by jealousy, hatred and vindictiveness. For a lawyer of Mutembo Nchito’s standing, he should know better that RB is not a convicted person to have his movements restricted to this level. Some people have called Mutembo Nchito a crook in the past and for sure I am beginning to understand the reason why.
