The Patriotic Front has suspended all its political campaigns in Feira constituency in Luangwa district following the road accident that claimed nine lives of UPND members yesterday.

The accident also left 20 UPND members seriously injured and are admitted in Katondo mission hospital.

Vice President Guy Scott has disclosed this at a media briefing in Lusaka today.

Dr. Scott hopes other political parties will also suspend campaigns until after the burial of the accident victims.

Meanwhile the Vice President says the government will bear all the costs of the funeral and burial of the deceased either in Luangua or their places of choice.

Dr. Scott however says the step taken by government should not be misconstrued as a campaign gimmick.

He says the government has an obligation to help the families as the death of the nine people is a disaster.

Speaking at the same event, permanent secretary in the office of the vice President in charge of disaster management and mitigation unit Patrick Kangwa says the unit has been coordinating responses to the accident.

Mr. Kangwa says the disaster management committee in Luangwa is making efforts to inform relatives of the injured adding that the DMMU has already identified the deceased, established their areas of residence and are having discussions relating to the burial arrangements with their next of kin.

Meanwhile, Acting President Edgar Lungu says government has received with pain and anguish the death of nine people in the Kavalamanja-Feira Road Traffic Accident.

Mr. Lungu who is also Home Affairs Minister says the accident was tragic and heart breaking not only to government but the country as a whole.

He said this in a his message of condolences to the families of the nine people who died in the Feira road accident.

Mr. Lungu has wished the 18 injured victims a quick and full recovery.

He says the government is deeply concerned about the frequent road fatalities on the Zambian roads.

Mr. Lungu has since urged Police and the Road Transport and Safety Agency to work closely with motorists and other road users in ensuring that traffic rules and regulations are observed in order to make roads safer.

He has since assured the bereaved families that government will come in and assist to lessen the burden shouldered on them.

This is according to a statement released to ZNBC news by Ministry of Home Affairs Head of Public Relations, MOSES SUWALI in LUSAKA today.

Nine people died while 17 others sustained serious injuries yesterday when a Toyota Dyna Registration No. ALJ 9169 over-turned after the driver lost control.

The accident occurred around 18:00hrs between Kavalamanja and Feira, about 9 Kilometers from the Great East Road.

The 17 injured people are admitted to Katondo Mission Hospital.

And Chief government’s spokesperson, Kennedy Sakeni is saddened at the death of nine people in a road traffic accident in Luangwa district.

Mr. Sakeni who is also Information and Broadcasting Minister says the deaths are yet again a great loss and sorrow to the nation.

He told ZNBC in a statement that government’s thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families for God’s strength and comfort.

Mr. Sakeni says the provincial Minister and officials from the Disaster Management Unit in Lusaka, are in Luangwa to coordinate emergency and other relief efforts around the accident.

He has however urged the people of Luangwa to put aside political affiliations and mourn the departed souls in peace and unity.

    • Indeed it is more decent to refer to them as Zambians and not UPND cadres! Politics are really diving us. Soon we will start being identified according to which political party we support! Shame

  1. PF and Patrick Ngoma are very myopic!
Mr Ngoma is a killer. People must know this. I personally challenged Mr Ngoma to stop killing our people. How come the MP in his right mind go to Kaunda Basic School with lots of tujilijili to give thanks with killer drinks. I lament for my people. I see how backward my people still want to remain.

I was there and I challenged him to stop being a killer. Mr Ngoma is a loser and need to wake up from slumber of killing people. I hope the people of Luangwa see that this many is not the right person for the job.

What really has gone wrong the the people of Luangwa? I wish I was in Zambia now to make sure i decampaigned this man and make sure he lost. Come next elections, pray I will not be in Zambia because I am coming to do my work.

  3. HH is demon possessed and so desparate to win this seat. Why should he start killing his own people just because of a parliamentary seat?HH step down and let canissius take over

  4. Just admit that you’ve lost. People will see through your simple tricks to win sympathy. PF is pure evil. How disgusting that you want to profit from tragedy! Sata…..nists!

  5. Dr. Canicius Banda has already said that UPND will bury their dead. You mean Dotty Scotty did not get this?

    • Ba Canicius, you did not tell us bye, we used to Que together at state house wanting for jobs. Politic is not your game sir.. try to open a surgery…..

  6. Has any of these ministers or the head state thought of instigating an enquiry into why the accidents are happening at this rate instead of always passing messages of condolences alone? Its about time we started making these politicians work for our money.

  7. Zambians should slow down when they drive. Please trafic police stop being corrupt when drivers are over speeding. And Zed Drivers stop paying the police when they ask for a bribe pay the full fine. Thats the only way we can be safer on our roads. You might pay/corrupt a police officer today and think you are clever but when a speeding driver kills your kids because he know he can speed and pay off police! you will not feel so clever for incouraging corruption. I feel sorry for the pointless loss of life. I think buses and trucks should have speed limiters installed on them.
