Government says it does not care what the outside world thinks about Zambia’s image as long as it is doing the right thing.

Home Affairs Minister Edgar Lungu told QFM News in an interview that people saying the PF government is denting the country’s image to the outside world do not understand facts.

Mr Lungu said the impression of the outside world concerning Zambia is of less concern to the government as long as it ensures there is accountability in the country’s governance.

He said that the only way that those in government can be accountable is by learning from the mistakes of their predecessors, and not to impress the outside world by doing the wrong things.

Mr Lungu added that government is not bothered by the perception of outsiders as long as it has the support of the Zambian people.

He said governance is a balancing act which calls for balancing of the interests of the citizens and a larger majority of the people as opposed to the interest of an individual.

Mr.Lungu said those crying out that government is denting the country’s image to the outside world through its actions should appreciate that it is trying to balance the interest of the majority.

  1. I remember Robert Mugabe saying similar words before the country went down. Time to care will surely come Bwana Lungu.

    • LUNGU IS RIGHT. LOOK AFTER NUMBER ONE FIRST (ZAMBIAN CITIZENS). ZAMBIA IS NOT EVEN MAIMING OTHER CITIZEN AS OTHER SUPPER POWERS DO. ZAMBIA IS JUST FIGHTING CORRUPTION UNDER VERY DIFFICULT CONDITIONS.

    • Why were cerebrating when Britain was praising you on the removal of subsidies? Why are trotting day and night to China Japan Brazil and now even Cuba if you do not care??????? You Lungu a you added more fire on a fraying pan.
KK said like that in 1985-1988. We kicked his***********out. Most of you PF you look sick and once you kicked death will be on your door side.
      Apology is required bane

    • If the outside world does not like your programmes of building schools, roads, hospitals, houses and creating employment for your citizens then it makes sense not to care, but if it’s about they way you conduct yourselves towards other dignitaries at international meetings then you have EVERYTHING to worry or CARE about Mr Lungu!

  2. Edgar Lungu may not care, but as a people we do. It’s a pity he has found himself in a leadership position. He is certainly not fit to be a leader of a free people.

  3. Mr Lungu, we are part and parcel of the international community. We are actually bothered by what the world thinks about Zambia. Please do not dent image of our country. It has taken us years of hard labour and sacrifice to build this image. The superior interest of our nation dictates that no single person/party should destroy Zambia’s image.

  4. Most Zambian people do not support the confusion. Govt should have told the conveners of the SA meeting not to reschedule RBs flight schedules since govt knew it was not going to allow RB to fly out. Simple diplomacy and common sense!

  5. I am beginning to like Mr Lungu he seems to say things you least expect of him
In all honest if you look at the bottom line often he is right

    Thanks

    • Whoever is masquerading as Musota, you are in the insignificant minority. Such arrogance being exhibited by the PF government has no basis nor support from any Zambian with common sense. Every now and again, members of the government are out trying to attract investors into Zambia. With such rhetoric does this government honestly think any right thinking company will come and set business in such an environment where the government can do whatever it wills without caring what the whole world thinks? Which Square can we start assembling at, The Monk Square is out of public view.

  6. “Mr Lungu added that government is not bothered by the perception of outsiders as long as it has the support of the Zambian people.” Lungu

    Pride precedes a fall sir.

  7. It matters how the world perceives us. Shall we please learn from Zimbabwe, no country is an island. The world operates on the principles of inter-relations. A good name is better than many riches. For the honour of Mother Zambia,we shall continue to tell the world who we really are.

Careless words spoken at international official forums is not healthy for the Zambian people living outside Zambia and doing business with other countries. Our government should focus on addressing the needs of our country and work on building international relations with other countries. It would be sad for a Zambian living abroad to be ill treated because of same thing our government diplomat said about that country.

  8. “Mr. Lungu said those crying out that government is denting the country’s image to the outside world through its actions should appreciate that it is trying to balance the interest of the majority.”

Which Majority is he talking about? Majority Ministers?? We are in hot soup bane…

  9. All signs lead to what we have always dreaded about this party in Govt. A great Nation is only as good as it’s leaders. However, its people have a big contribution to what a nation eventually becomes. You have people like that in our society who do not care what the other people think about them. But these are the same people who eventually go begging from their neighbours in the night. Bwana Lungu, please this kind of pride will not take Zambia anywhere… let us do the right thing. Afterall you as a party have been bribing MPS to join you as these the people you mean? not at all.

  10. I think if the governement is doing the right things there is no need to worry about what other people say bout Zambia. The issue concerning RB is a serious internal matter that the international community should understand before they say negative things about Zambia. We should never allow our leaders to steal from the people, and those who steal must be punished, period!!The negative image of Zambia is being painted by those who support corruption and those who have benefitted from the corrupt activities of RB.

  11. This is not normal. So, Zambia’s image to the outside World does not matter? We go out and beg for loans and bonds, but how the lenders perceive us does not matter? Facts? We disobey court orders and it does not matter? We display confusion by having so many Govt spokespersons it renders Govt foreign policies a joke as they keep changing with each spokesperson, and it does not matter? This is now mental illness.

    • Mental illness indeed due to hangover. Absolute power is dangerous. This Man needs to apologies.

  12. Even since PF came to power, it has never sounded to be ruling party, but it has always been in opposition. The only time you hear a minister or the president speak, it is trash or creating heaven on earth districts or when sending party officials to hell(expel). And I have never heard those guys speaking one, everyone has his own world the is a big JOKE government ever ruled Zambia. This is really non sense. I wish………. Zimbabwe into Zambia is next door, now, and we are all watching coming! POVERTY, POVERTY!

  13. and he also does not care about donors’ money while the PF govt is struggling to make ends meet ?? what a fool !!

    • like a prostitute who does not care whether a condom breaks, live or whatever, as long as KR is with her hangs.

  14. Fundamentals can only negotiable in another world. Facts may hurt but facts also heal. Bravo!

  15. Do not let the new world order to control Zambia. PF is improving well despite of bribed people and Freemason worlds.

  16. Edgar Lungu’s newly acquired ‘acting president’ portfolio has clearly gone to his head and that coupled with his disoriented and dizziness spells make him issue such dangerous outbursts.
He says he does not care how the rest of the world perceive the goings-on in Zambia. This can only come from the mouth of an irresponsible leader who looks at Zambia like his personal market stall. He doesn’t care but Zambians care a great deal. It boggles the mind how a chap like him can even act as president. What a circus!

  17. Are these Guys have protocol officers, secretaries, advisors. Most just Yap anyhow, anywhere, anytime, anything and do nothing at end of the day. It is like sub-prefects at Chizzy who to fight to make announcement mu dingo

  18. How shall we know their caliber as the FDD has put it. HE MCS should really go back to the table and align these guys other wise they’re chewing free money in an economy that needs it or maybe its all about being useful *****s as has been alluded by the PF top brass. You see countrymen, these guys just pass comments without thoroughly examining the contents, just several weeks ago Guy Scot watu offended South Africans and the government was at pains on how to quench that fire. So Lungu is just being myopic and we should understand that he was acting under alcohol influence maybe even fwaka ya Chingoni.

  19. Mentality of all dictatorial regimes. When the majority Zambians are concerned about the image of Zambia being damaged by PF govt, the few in govt and its leadership will claim to bedoing good for the nation. that’s what Mugabe thinks, Amin, Mobutu, Emparor Bokassa etc all thought were doing their countries good when not. That is what Lungu believes on our national dented image by PF bad governance.
