Confusion has now ensued over the candidature of MMD’s Evelyn Mwanawasa in the July 25 2013 Kafulafuta parliamentary by election after the party insisted that she has not withdrawn from the race.
Former Lands Minister Gladys Nundwe who says she was the spokesperson for the Mwanawasa family issued a statement earlier today announcing that Ms. Mwanawasa had withdrawn her candidature on account of poor health.
But the MMD has insisted that Ms. Mwanawasa is still its candidate for the Kafulafuta seat and dismissed Ms. Nundwe’s statement describing it as political fraud.
MMD Deputy National Secretary Chembe Nyangu maintained that Ms. Mwanawasa has not officially communicated to the secretariat over such moves.
Mr. Nyangu said Ms. Mwanawasa was in the field campaigning as late as Wednesday morning after which she asked for leave to go to the hospital to have her health checked.
“She was in the field distributing her materials and her campaign team has been in touch with the secretariat and there is nothing of such sort happening in Kafulafuta.
“It is not true that she has withdrawn, we know some people have been bought by the PF to cause confusion in Kafulafuta because of the high caliber of our candidate there. PF is panicking and decides to pay Nundwe to issue false statements,” Mr Nyangu said.
“For us, Evelyn Mwanawasa is still our candidate, period!”
And MMD Die Hard Youth National Coordinator Bowman Lusambo described the statement from Ms. Nundwe as political fraud.
Mr Lusambo said the PF is using Ms. Nundwe to decampaign the MMD in Kafulafuta but vowed that scheme will not work.
“We know Gladys likes money too much and we also know that the PF is desperate. So they have hired her to cause confusion. We appeal to the ECZ to disregard statements from Ms. Nundwe because as they are not official,” Mr. Lusambo said.
But when contacted later, Ms. Nundwe maintained that she was speaking on behalf of the family and that Ms. Mwanawasa had opted out of the parliamentary race.
“Yes it is true she has withdrawn, we met as a family and we asked her to leave politics because it is harmful to her health. I cannot just wake up and dream that she has withdrawn, am not mad and I have not been bought by anyone,” she said.
She added, “Am very principle and am a person of high integrity and I cannot be bought. I was speaking on behalf of the family.”
Efforts to reach Ms. Mwanawasa proved fruitless as her mobile phone was not reachable.
These are the issues Nevers should be dealing with & not MCS’ percieved image or who officiates at ZITF opening ceremony ! Infact he ought to be in Kafulafuta!
Leave Pastor Mumba alone. Abanensu ba Egypty has been saved, not imwe na Ba Sata benu. Infact both Sata and Morsi came to power in same way, same year, same manifesto and they use same constitution law.
@1.1 Nostrils…..
Ubufi! Egyptians have not liberated themselves. They have gone have deeper in quicksand. For them to stabilise they will require a major revolution not this anarch they are calling people’s mass power. Watch them closely you will notice failure as a Nation.
@CHINVINDINVINDI
Nostra is right!!! egyptian have sorted themselves out… whoever becomes president now or in future will be inclusive, will talk to the people… unlike the case in zambia where one lays stones to mark unversities sites.. just does things he dreams of and blind people can it development
And you @ MMD,,, put your house in order, bring out that mwanawasa sister and let her state he case to the zambian public…
I also see patrick mwanawasa`s hand here try to impress his boss in lusaka
YOU ARE RIGHT. BUT AS FOOLISH AS HE IS HE DOES NOT ADD VALUE TO MMD PARTY.
Remember what happened to her brother. Leave her alone.
Yaba olo lwanya ! Please ba MMD respect her and the family wish. Her withdrawal might have had come at a bad time but you shouldn’t`t play with another persons life. Now you are even tarnishing her reputation by saying that she likes money.Just let it go.
Wanted to say “Now you are even tarnishing her family spokespersons reputation by saying that she likes money”
She is not healthy just like the brother wasn’t. Please ba Evelyn just rest. You have nothing to offer Zambia. Just ask Maureen to share the loot with you.
Look who is talking a complete nobody. Just shut up because you dont even know the background of the people in Question. Malabishi.
iwe chi lusambo cant you go and stand yourself in that constituency, unless someone dies that’s when you will put ututako panshi.
why is her phone unreachable if she can stand? its you who is desperate not PF
Please do respect the family’s decision. It doesn’t need money to realize that one’s health is at risk. For your information, the Mwanawasa family is known for suffering from BP. One can say that in their case it is genetical. By the way let’s face facts: she had no chance of winning Kafulafuta! 🙂
Well she’s ill right now, isn’t she? Give her a little more time to recover and then let her issue a statement herself with her own mouth, or should we assume she’s being held hostage?
Going by past events, everything is possible in Zambia. Up and until she makes a ‘legitimate’ verifiable personal statement, I will not trust any ‘family’ or political spokesman. I’m allergic to being misled like someone was allergic to corruption not too long time ago. Phew!
ATI ba MMD die hard, mwalifwa kale lekeni sister Mwanawasa eka. Lusambo you need to draw the line between family matters and politics. You should have first confirmed with your candidate whether what the family spokesperson is saying is true or not rather than insulting the Mwanawasa family. When are you going to grow up?
If she is campaigning in the field, how come came you failed to contact her? Confusion and amateur tactics at work! From the beginning, she was reluctant to participate in the elections, she is free to opt out why force her.
These re more important maters Nevers is supose to organise, his own internal maters. Now this man like his bedfellow Hakahi votela Heka ve no time fr such but climb the radder off the line & try to beyond the imediate step to somethng else!Wht a falacy, there’s no order at all.No mater wht both these fellows ve high tensions internaly.Imagine the loose aliance perceivd to b tht fr the 2 parties & yet it loosely between Nevers & HH!Again the time they realise to forego the aliance its already 2016 with no time left to organise & strategise.Wht next PF wil cary the day!Wht wil these do cry to international comunity fr falure. This how wicked or weak the oposition is i Zambia to day.Its food fr thought.
The way Zambian women laugh when about to greet.. with head falling to the right… stretching arm so low as if she wants to hold your twanikane.. you tend to lean back , she follows with a wide-mocking smile…. then she slaps in your palm.. hoping you hold to shake.. but she just gives her figure tips…. Zambian women!!
@Nostra….That was sugar daddy RB statesman greeting… anything was possible at the time… have you forgotten
Am sure thats the nature of your mother so you are able to depict that.
I am from a UNIP era. If this is the kind of opposition from the MMD you want, you are in trouble. First gang yourselves as as opposition and for once fight for Zambia because you cant win no matter the gabbage. Life is about facing reality not ukupela ba kolwe nangu bakoswe, nangu injelela. No one is going to win against the PF if in they combined $10 billion dollars. We need to be honest in our hearts. Otherwise, you are creating a one party democracy knowingly. Lets get real fellas.
This drama is only the end result of a myopic opposition bent on Megaphone politics and rallies. These are outdated in this era of Radio ,TV, cellphone technology.
THESE (So-called) INTELLIGENT PARTIES HAVE FAILED TO OUT-DO PF FULL OF DROP-OUTS.
KANSHI…EFIKOPO FULL OF IFISUSHI!
Just look for another candidate, she is sick. It is immoral to push someone to fight a battle unprepared. Even Nevers Mumba can stand if he wants, but I don’t think he can win.
Ms. Nundwe is right. Bowman Lusambo yateke panshi mwaice dont open your mouth anyhow ,family issue matters more than anything, just find another canditate to stand because you will not bear the out come of high BP.
Talking about the health of the MMD Candidate, pleas spare us(Zambians) the hypocricy. Why can’t Ukwa be the first to withdraw from being the Republican President, considering his ailing health. You”Useful Idiots” stop being hypocrits and always dreaming to wish MMD hard luck.Such hatred, desperation for more numbers in Parliament won’t help you,as a One-Term Government.
Litiya, you are so pathetic! Isn’t Ukwa who has sent a family spokesperson to tell his party that him and his family have decided not to participate in the Kafulafuta bye-election? Litiya, respect yourself and think like a grown up.
It is the candidates’ daughter and relative Mrs. Gladys Nundwe who have been issuing these statements about Evelyn Mwanawasa withdrawing from contesting the bye- election.
Mind you, Ms. Mwanawasa in the beginning didn’t want to contest this seat but Nevers and others used the Levy Patrick Mwanawasa psychology of he would do anything for the MMD on Evelyn. This is the price you pay for always using political manipulation. PF has nothing to do with the ailment of dear Evelyn Mwanawasa.
Wake up useful i.d.i.o.t.s, you are busy fighting one another instead of fighting Sata who has reduced your country and economy to nothing because of his poor policies on everything. The little energy you`ve remained with can be used to fight Ukwa and not one another.
Ukwa II even my garden boy has guts to ask for his terminal benefits because of PFs’ people centred policies.
Under MMD Zambians were being mistreated, worked without protective clothing and were paid a minimum wage equal to a funeral donation.
You, HH & Nevers are the only ones dying of hunger and rightfully so!
Nostradamus you really want this war rigjht,,you will get it at yourdoorstep, president Sata was votted into office by a very well organised ellection ,we had no uprising in Zambia like was the case with Egypt,,i pity you
Why was the phone off? These statements are true and official.
The phone is off because her family members are protecting her from fanatics like Bowman Lusambo who would torment her to death about the bye-election in Kafulafuta.
Leave her alone, on this one I am with HH.
