NNAREP President Elias Chipimo was today blocked from having a live interview on Kasama-based Community Radio Station, Mano by Patriotic Front (PF) cadres.

Northern Province police Chief Mary Chikwanda however, immediately dispatched police to the Radio station to control the situation after a complaint was filed by staff at the station.

Ms Chikwanda who confirmed receiving a report of alleged misconduct by PF carders said the situation was back to normal by lunch time.

Operations at the station had earlier ground to a halt after the interference from the PF cadres as one of them shoved Mr Chipimo away at the radio station’s gates.

Mr Chipimo immediately took to Twitter where he tweeted the message below.

“I have just been physically prevented from speaking on Radio Mano in Kasama by a Mr Chipili below (claiming he is a big fish in Kasama) operating on behalf of PF,” he said.

PF provincial secretary Everest Chella however, said the members of the group that blocked Mr Chipimo from Radio Mano were not in the party structures and just sympathisers.

“Mr Chipimo is at liberty to go anywhere he is a Northerner as well. The party leadership in the province has no hand in today’s goings on
at Mano,” Mr Chella said.

When asked what action the party would take, he responded that the unruly mob that had stationed itself at Radio Mano was not in the party structures and could not be disciplined.

“We have no control over sympathisers because as a party our position is that Mr Chipimo is a Zambian who can feature on any station in the province. We uphold and respect freedom of expression,” he said.

Radio Mano staff issued a statement during its midday news bulletin complaining at the alleged PF sympathisers’ actions.

The staff complained that the station survived from payments from such programmes like the one which Mr Chipimo was scheduled to feature on as they had no direct grants from anywhere.

Mr Chipimo later took to social network site Twitter where he tweeted “Heading back to the station under police escort to conduct the interview. #We shall not be moved.”

  1. The police also tolerated such rubbish. those cadres are denying chipimo his rights( freedom of expression not forgetting press freedom) ………..

    • kekekekekek… parallel intelligence what?… thats why zambian watchdog makes sense even if sometime they do go over board..

    • Intelligence? Yeah. That’s got to be the biggest oxymoron of all time! As for PF blocking ZWD, PF have neither the means nor the expertise to block a domain – especially a foreign hosted one.

    • It just shows they were operating with directives from higher offices. Police clearly had no say. Who is this Mr Chipili claiming to be a big fish yet his just a ka bolyo

    • Long before egypt took to the streetS,,,mubarack bullied everyone and he “won“ elections to upto about 80percent,,,,you cant box people and control their thinking forever!!!

If this does not change now,,zambia will be set alight,,,and Sata risks being the worst zambian president even!!!!!

    • Elias is too timid and docile. He doesn’t even put up a fight when he is challenged. He just slinks away, tail between legs. He will never lead with that attitude.

  3. Fight FIRE with FIRE! You can complain and protest until you blow a gasket! These thugs only understand one language!

  4. What T.B. Joshua has prophesied will happen very soon more especially in Zambia, because the big man SATA is behind all this happening to opposition. Even in MMD is was the master mind of this.

  5. If these party Presidents have gone to attend the burial of the late Paramount Chief Chitimukulu, why are they going to give interviews at some radio station? It’s easy to see why they are getting blocked. Do not politicise the burial of the late Chitimukulu and you will not be harassed period!

  6. 1. Teba NAREP President ECJ bakenye abene Lubemba to invite the Cobra.
    2. Ba ECJ na Sata alishiba ati he is the sixth President, watch the Africa Freedom Day clip where Sata said Chipimo is the sixth President.

  7. The appointment of females to head the police command was more of a strategic move than an adherence to equal opportunities for women. We have observed that these women, right from their Inspector General, have been extremely pathetic in the execution of their duties. Sata put them in those positions because he can easily bully them. There is no professionalism in the police and all the appointments were not on merit. The deserving professional officers were sidelined in preference to these women who mostly are compromised. Take Libongani for instance, she has connections with Sata through some extra-marital affairs Sata has with Libongani’s relative.

  8. We can access the ZWD ! I think the networks in Zambia have been worked upon by the parallel intelligence officials !
As for the those cadres blocking Chipimo…mmmmmmm
When Kaponyas were used to get another Kaponya in presidential office, how did you picture life would be like thereafter?? Exactly the way it is punning out right now !!!
Kaponyas for their kaponyas ! Kaponyas stay together !! So Zambia is one country where everything has gone to the dogs !!! You don’t expect them to treat educated men or women (Church bishops, lawyers, doctors, priests, etc) with respect !!! Zambia is doomed !!!

  9. When opposition leaders are blocked from participating in live interviews they should not despair. They can still get their message out by either having a private interview offsite (secret location) and relayed into the studio live. Interested callers can email or tweet their questions or comments. Alternatively, they can have questions sent in prior then an interview conducted, recorded and re-broadcast. Learn how to beat the PF system with technology.

  10. What a country? And the police stood there just watching an illegal protest. If these people were opposition cadres they would have been arrested right away and in the process have sustained a few cuts and bruises.
