Nkana striker Evans Kangwa and Zanaco defender Salulani Phiri have been included in the Zambia squad ahead of this weekend’s 2014 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier against Botwana in Gaborone.
And the team entered camp in Lusaka on Monday just a day after winning the 2013 COSAFA Senior Challenge Cup on home turf.
Herve Renard says he wanted to asses Kangwa who has neverr kicked a ball in 2013 because of attending unsuccesful six months trials in Spain.
“He (Kangwa) is in the team with Salulani,” Renard said.
“I don’t know if he will be in the team yet, but I just want to see him after a long travelling in Spain where his transfer failed,” he added.
And the team is expected to leave for Botswana on Thursday.
The 2014 CHAN will be hosted by South Africa from January 10 to February 2.
Why can’t this so called coach swallow his pride and just call “sate-sate” into camp….I don’t mind evens kangwa but “sate-sate” is tried and tested and is far much better than those 2 plangas he has in festus and bornwell.
Good move .Evans and Salulani are good players.
Evans might be better than that talk Nkana striker Festus.
I asked friends about Kangwa during the Cosafa tournament when Fesuts Mbewe and Mwape were failing to prove themselves in front of such an enthusiastic crowd. To me, Mbewe’s mistake is a clear symptom of a serious coaching problem – there’s no way a striker can be caught off-side 14 times in one match and the coach doesn’t get bothered enought ot address it with the player. I have also noticed that in a game of two different halves, our opponents almost always play better in the second half than the first, and in my view the 2nd half is a very serious indicator of which coach reads and understands the opponent better!!!
Keep the lad. He is the best prospect at the moment and he should partner with his club mate Kampamba. They have a telepathic understsanding of each other. They they have not been called for a long time defeats logic.
Renard can’t call Sate Sate, they are not in good terms. This is after Sate Sate complained when Renard grabbed the armband from him and gave the captaincy to another player during the under 20 word cup qualifier match in Algeria. So let us know the reason for the omision of Sate sate. Renard should learn to forget the past.
My friend you are totally wrong. Sate sate is not international material, period.
For as long as we continue allowing Renard to take personal fillings into player selection and allow Kalu to collect bribes we will still have second placed team dispite having all the Talent. I am sure when Kambwili interverns a certain some one will be running to a certain FIFA to cry government interference but he does not run to FIFA when the same government pays his salary.
Zambians never appreciate. You just won COSAFA without one Sate Sate. What is our problem honestly. You never train the team neither are you the Team Technical Adviser for you to understanf selection criteria. Why cant we be satisfied for once with what we are experiencing in Zambian soccer
