THE Ministry of Health has finished the yellow risk assessment survey in Western and North-Western Provinces.

This survey was carried out carried out to determine whether people going in to the two areas should be vaccinated against yellow fever or not.

Permanent Secretary Peter Mwaba confirmed this development in an interview yesterday.

He said data from the survey was taken to the laboratory and that external validation had already been done.

“We are done with the yellow fever assessment survey in Western and North Western Provinces, we are just waiting for the results which will be ready in September this year,” he said.

This survey started in May this year and was being carried out by professionals who were trained and would review the vaccination policies in light of the yellow fever designation.

The risk assessment will also help Zambia broaden health information base by generating current data on the status of yellow fever in Zambia.

Currently, Zambia is using yellow fewer data that was reviewed in the 1940s and 1950s.

  1. Yes please tell us if Cleo’s and Sulu’s friends south of Africa are in order asking us for yellow fever certificates when passing through their state.

  2. Of significance is if the results will be recognized by international bodies such as WHO and other countries such as South Africa so that depending on the results there might be possibility to lift the yellow fever vaccination requirement for Zambian’s

  3. Good work. We need such epidemiological information for better management of diseases. Carry on MoH regardless of whether the ruling party has majority MPs or not in those areas. Your mandate is to bring health services as close to Zambian families as possible. Or did you carry out that survey at the instigation of a ruling party MP and only in constituencies under the ruling party?? We hear this in every campaign rallies nowadays. I am curious to read the report when it is published.

  4. But why only Northwestern and Western Provinces? It is understandable that these two province border Angola, a country with yellow fever. But the question is why not Copperbelt, Luapula and Northern/Muchinga provinces as all these provinces share borders with either DRC or Tanzania, two countries listed by WHO as infested with yellow fever? What is it that you are playing at you PF chaps?
