We inherited a failed social security – Shamenda

Share

GOVERNMENT says the current social security system which it inherited has failed to meet the aspirations of citizens in eliminating poverty and destitution among beneficiaries.

And government says it is committed towards reforming the current social security system.

Labour and Social Security Minster, Fackson Shamenda observed that the delivery of social justice is highly dependent on a well-functioning social security system, hence the urgent need to reform the current system.

Mr. Shamenda said the current levels of occupational injury are shockingly low which has led to claimants being subjected to unnecessary delays and denial of justice.

ZANIS reports that the Labour minister said this during the installation of a new Workers Compensation Fund Control Tribunal in Ndola today.

The Minster said it is for this reason that government has committed itself to reforming the social security system.

“We want a social security system that will adhere to tenets of social justice and help eliminate poverty and destitution among our people,” he said.

Mr. Shamenda commended the tribunal for taking up their positions, urging them to be diligent in performing their duty.

He charged the new members to exercise independence, diligence, and fairness in discharging their duties.

And Workers Compensation Commissioner Dr. Elizabeth Nkumbula congratulated the newly appointed tribunal.

Dr. Nkumbula urged the tribunal to work hard and take the commission’s dealings with pensioners and other customers to another level.

  1. This man has been a unionist from the the time he was with PTC.He can’t deny he is one of those who formulated the stupet scheme he’s now blaming.

    • Wasn’t Shamenda not a Minister of Labour and Social Security in MMD. Very few in PF government have never been part of the MMD failures. Syvia, Sata, Shamenda, Sekani, GBM and the Swine fever pig scandal man Scot.
Sometimes we forget that some of the ministers that joined PF did not join because they noticed corruption, but because they were fired for corruption.

  2. He is out of touch with reality. His sole aim is to please his master. Old man be advised that we shall not allow you to bully us. No one has complained about the current social security system. It is you who is complaining. Retire yourself before we do it in 2016.

  3. They(Sata Shamenda, and many others) should blame themselves for not doing a good job because they were part of the MMD who were responsble the same mess.

  4. UMMMMMMMMM…. mwayamba ukukopela ka?!! this message reminds me of the democrates and Obama blaming it on the Republicans and Bush when ever they were reminded of not creating jobs or crashing over the crisis that hit hard during their campaign, Ba shamenda come up with your own rap not copy righting, i know those words from the original writer, The Democrates!

  5. Shamenda, at some point you have to stop blame games and take ownership of whats not going right. The curent managers at GM or Ford inherited a big mess too but they knew their task was a profitable turnaround not blame games.

  6. Two years on the job and you are still blaming the previous regime? This is your baby now, fix it and shut up already! We don’t want to hear about MMD anymore when it comes to government policy, that’s old news.

  7. “We inherited a failed social security”. It is always like that. They are always crying, blaming the past for their incompetence. Why were you voted in govt? Is it not to work on such problematic issues, or just to enjoy the comfort of the office?

  8. Shamenda just eat and enjoy don’t open your mouth on matters which you implemented a long time ago. Don’t thick that we are fools. We are watching you all the time. I thick it is better for you to retire.

  9. Close all pension schemes, especially NAPSA, Civil servants pension, LASF.
Most of pension contribution by employers and employees goes to pay hefty salaries to managers of these institutions, support their lavish lifestyles, travelling and attending seminars, sponsoring golf tournaments and allowances to board and management for unnecessary meetings.

Simple solution as one of my known industry expert told me when Napsa was being established lies in simple ‘regular saving’ in a simple traditional way of saving.

Make it compulsory for employers and employees to save a fixed percentage of their monthly income and put it in a simple interest bearing bank account or treasury bills linked deposit account or similar pure Saving product and the fund will grow phenomenally and beat any…

  10. The cost of public old age benefits in Germany is on track to grow by 25 percent of worker payroll.

    Similar challenge in Japan.

Napsa contribution amount per employee has, in dollar terms, gone up 3 times during last 6 years.

  11. ba fack…its never late plant today and you will reap wat you sow,own up and grow with your bloted cabinet with all the freebies do you think you can achieve anything haa,am sure pf is reprinting money the kaunda way very soon we shall go back to 10 digits.and this yapy yapy shamenda politics of the belly muzezuru iwe

  12. LT can you please show us the UNWTO general assembly in pictures? A lot is left to be desired with Zambia.’s journalism. In this day and age can all newspapers in Zambia fail to inform the world fully about what is going on in Zambians? Marketing of Zambia is being drummed into people’s heads but this message always falls on dry brains of our journalists in Zambia. In this day and age people are not interested in just reading text without seeing images, pictures in short.

  13. We have seen different political parties as ruling or opposition parties, but the Government of Zambia has always been the Government of Zambia since independence, am I right?

  14. Can you shut up and stop annoying zambians with your lies and failings its clear that pf has failed in every area so dont insult zambian with your level of dullness truelly only *****s can believe you rubbish

  15. So after all the noise, Mr. Shamenda’s answer is:

    e. Blame the MMD.

    ….Right?

Maybe next the Honorable Minister can explain this:

“Mr. Shamenda said the current levels of occupational injury are shockingly low.”

Shockingly low??? I know “some opposition leaders” have accused PF of being vicious, but why does the Honorable Minister want to see higher levels of occupational injury? Already there are too few working light bulbs in the stairwells of government buildings.

  16. THE PROBLEM WITH THIS GOVERNMENT IS THAT IT IS FULL OF ABAKOTE. THAT IS WHY THEY ARE ADVOCATING FOR 65 YEARS. TWAKANA. CHI CHIBESAKUNDA NACHO CHAKONKAMO NELYO CHALILYA KALE PENSION. TEKUFWILA PANCHITO BANE. KUSHAKO AMAKA YA KULYA INDALAMA WABOMBELE.

  17. Hmmm ba Shamenda, ati we inherited!! Inherited from who when you where always around either as a shodow or in 3d.And now ati we inherited.Ok bwana, be imformed that you are now dealing with an educated class not your ordinary cadre you mislead with half truths.Consult civil servants first then act on the resolution.Iyi midala arrogance na impunity monga benze ku course;-(
