President Micheal Sata this morning swore in Reverend Howard Sikwela as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government.
The Head of State has urged the newly appointed Permanent Secretary to effectively deal with the challenges in the Ministry of local Government.
Reverend Sikwela resigned from the UPND on 5thJanuary 2013 where he served as Livingstone Member of Parliament.
And speaking to journalists after being sworn in at state house, Reverend Sikwela pledged to diligently perform his duties as Permanent Secretary.

@Kafupi HH is not tribal. He is not in power and he has appointed no one to any gvt position for you to judge him. Tribalism is manifest in appoitments made by the Party/President in power. PF has so far shown that it is very TRIBAL. You only need to check who is appointed to Foreign Service, PS, Ministers, quasi gvt institutions, Parastatal chiefs its all Bembas. Is it only Bembas who voted for Sata and PF?? Iam not Bemba but I voted for PF and Sata. Appointments must be open to all Zambians and not restricted to Bembas only. Come 2016 only Bembas who are being appointed wil vote for PF. We will see if you will stand a chance against the other tribes.

From us in Zambia (on the ground) so far no opposition party is that well represented across the breadth and width to unseat the ruling PF, apart from a few parley seats, PF has been scooping almost all ward (counsellor) seats in by election additionally a number of projects are coming up, roads, etc. GOD BLESS ZAMBIA.

The reverend has been appointed to a govt position and not a PF position, so why is he being inclined to PF any way? His allegiance is to the govt and not the political party. I hope in the future we will have a situation were the permanent secretaries will not be appointed by the president or at least not appointing them outside the govt. We have many qualified people for those jobs who have no political inclination within govt who are best suited for the jobs of permanent secretaries. So the reverend is now a civil servant!

Hmmmmm….I don’t know. Unless you are RB, it is very difficult to remove a sitting president after his first-term and this is the case anywhere in the world. Ask the Republicans in America they will tell you something. I myself do not underrate thie PF government. They may look like bumbling individuals at the moment, but when I project what their current policies are likely to produce by the time it is 2016 – it will be tough to remove them. UPND and MMD should have no illusions about that. The only way PF can lose is if Sata steps down. Many will remember my words by 2015.

Winning elections in Africa in most cases is about numbers, what numbers can the opposition talk about? About press freedom are you aware that LAZ during the last governments reign, at one time threatened to take legal action against public media for their biased coverage?
