THE MMD has written to the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) requesting them to stop the Patriotic Front (PF) from engaging in premature campaigns that it has embarked on in Mansa Central Constituency in Luapula Province.
MMD National deputy secretary Chembe Nyangu wrote to ECZ executive director Priscilla Isaac complaining over the PF campaigns in Mansa Central constituency.
Mr Nyangu said it was not fair that the PF had undertaken campaigns in Mansa district before the ECZ fixed and declared the filing of nominations and polling dates for the by-elections.
The Mansa Central seat fell vacant following the death of area Member of Parliament (MP) Kennedy Sakeni.
“Our local structures have been advised to strictly follow electoral laws before they can start to campaign. However, and strangely, the PF and its government have already started campaigns,” Mr Nyangu said.
He cited the recent visit by the Vice President to the constituency who he accused of having gone to the area under the guise of Government work.
He said several ministers were in the area campaigning in the name of doing Government work and had been covered by Government and private media institutions.
“This type of impunity in flouting the electoral laws is unacceptable to us and we protest against this sort of political behaviour in the strongest possible terms.
He appealed to the ECZ to prevail over PF and its G
PF is above the law and it controls the police pforce so whatever they say,no matter how diabolical, is the law.The ICC is your best bet ba MMD.

Its difficult to tell whether a government leader is working or campaigning. We can tell the frustration its been there always to opposition from the time of Kaunda
MMD instead of focussing on building the party, you are fighting inconsequential battles. Leave Mansa alone, you know that as MMD there is no way you can win in Luapula at this stage. Take advantage of the confusion and strengthen you party structures at community level…but of course do you have anybody who can coordinate that? No. You have internal wrangles over power as well. I think at this rate only UPND will offer credible alternative government in 2016. MMD if you were not shooting innocent people to kill when Nyama-Soya was still in power, you were going to return to power in 2016. But people still remember your bullets, how you killed people using the police…and in fact some were killed in Mansa itself. Stop complaining. PF is even better than you numskulls!!
