Opposition Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) president Nevers Mumba says there is nothing worthy of excitement over the move by the Police to allow the United Party for National Development (UPND) to hold a public rally.
Dr. Mumba said the holding of rallies and other public gatherings in the country form part of democratic rights and freedoms people are entitled to enjoy in a country like Zambia.
Dr. Mumba told Qfm in a telephone interview that it is actually embarrassing on the part of the Patriotic Front (PF) government that things had to reach to a point of breaktpoint to enjoy such fundamental rights and freedoms for people to freely assemble in a democratic country like Zambia.
He observed that the trend of repeatedly denying the opposition permission to hold public gatherings is also a shame to the nation, adding that the PF government has taken Zambia backwards in the way it is perceived by the international community.
Dr. Mumba has since indicated the MMD’s intensions to notify the Police on plans to hold several rallies across the country as a way of observing the PF government as to whether the decision to allow the UPND to hold a rally was done in an ad hoc manner or not.

Matipa,I really don’t understand what you mean by saying that Dr Mumba has been quite.What Dr Mumba is simply saying is that what the PF have done by granting UPND permition to hold a rally,should not be viewed as an extra ordinary thing,but but that’s what is supposed to happen in the democracy like ours.Therefore the PF should just be civil and do what is expected of the them.Therefore I don’t see any luck or shuko for UPND by having the rally.

Mumba does have a point. We zambians have been taken for mugs for a very long time. We now celebrate when we are given something that is inherently ours. Could it be that we are dull or cowards? It is your mother leaving a piece of cake on table for you and you steal it only to realise that it was meant for you in the first place and end up looking stiupid .

Just let them hold rallies. If property is broken let the party holding the rally be held responsible. Make it automatic that damage to proper as a result of rallies the respective party pays for the damage.

There’s nothing like being a Former Pastor.Being a Pastor,Apostle,Prophet,Evengelist,Teacher(Ephesians.4:11).These are callings from God,there not man-made or man- given titlles.You remain and continue being a Pastor etc untill Jesus comes.Infact if you read the Bible correctly you will will find out that David who was Pastor was also made King/President over Israel(2Samuel7:8).

what happens in countries like Tanzania, Bostwan,Britain, Australia and USA do oppositions political parties conduct rallies immediately after elections? During the west gate attack in Kenya it was difficult to tell who belonged to opposition or ruling part because they spoke the same uniting language. What magic do these people use?
In case of USA,the losing party will do a postmortem,why ,how,where are the weaknesses and improve on those areas.mostly the do town hall meetings not rally persay ,,they also check swing areas not dominated ,in case of Zambia,Lusaka,CB,do change their voting pattern.hh should concentrate in swing areas of Lusaka,CB,luapula,and party of central provinces.
UPND is not going anywhere,first and foremost we want the truth on Barotse issue. HH u will not take us for a ride as we already know ur deals with BRE.
It is not mathermatically possible for a Tonga infested party to rule. MMD also had 20 years to remove the public order act which is now haunting them. Also I do not believe a communist like HH who even pays his own worker peanuts was telling the truth in madevu by saying he will bring back subsidies.
Having said this is there a leader out there with anything better to offer Zambians? That is what we are still waiting for.
No, Nevers, your party, MMD created a backward society that sees nothing wrong with PF. You had twenty years in which you did nothing. This time around people will experiment with HH, not MMD or PF again. Zambians are like that.

Developing the country will continue with rallies going on. The PF will do better to allow political expression so that tensions are reduced and people can cooperate with them.
Opposition political parties are entitled to hold rallies. The Public Order Act was enacted to ensure that politicking is orderly and safe. Those who are opposed to rallies by opposition political parties belong to the old era of one-party state which was buried in 1990/91 with the birth of MMD. You dream of the past where dictatorship reigned will remain a dream and you stay there – in sleep-with it.
Nevers please you should always reflect and STOP and THINK and CONSIDER, the Public Order Act is as older than Zambia. MMD under Chiluba, Mwanawasa and Banda used it.

We were under the vice of colonialism and beyond half a century our gland fathers and us have been under neocolonialism with only free market as song Zambians can sing. We need to cross the Zambezi as victors in economic freedom. All this needs unity, sacrifice and patriotism. We do not need cheap talking about 2016. We do not need which leader is greater than the other. If they have been giving you something in this period of economic torture, lobe. We need real Change for the benefit of our grand children. The wind will soon blow and economic change will come on the wings of the intelligentsia of this Nation. However, what are laries? That is not campaign.
