Power and Nkana finish even in thrilling derby

Nkana failed to secure the 2013 FAZ Super Division title after rallying to draw 1-1 away to Power Dynamos in an explosive Kitwe derby at Arthur Davies Stadium today.

Second placed Zesco United’s 3-2 home over 2013 champions Zanaco in Ndola on Saturday meant this year’s title race will go to the wire in Week 30.

Nkana have 56 points while Zesco are now just two points behind on 54.

Meanwhile, Power were the better side in the first half and took a deserved lead in the 33rd minute through Julius Situmbeko who scored his debut derby goal after dancing his way through Nkana’s defence.

Power could have won the game in the first half had it not been for some poor finishing by Grave Chitalu who missed three great chances.

His best was in the 20th minute saw him fire a header onto the post with only Nkana’s outstanding goalkeeper Charles Mweemba to beat.

Power struggled after the break as Nkana gathered steam led by Reynold Kampamba who harassed and poked holes in the home sides defence.

Nkana found the net in unlikely circumstances when Festus Mbewe capitalized on a poor back-pass from Lawrence Chungu to slot the ball past Joshua Titima.

Mbewe turned from hero to villain missing three great chances setup for him by Kampamba in the 66th, 72nd and 90th minutes much to the frustration of Nkana’s fan in this riveting showdown.
Power drop from 6th to 7th after the draw.

Now Nkana must beat Red Arrows while Zesco face Nchanga Rangers away who today lost 2-0 away to Konkola Blades to drop in the title race and setup a dramatic final weekend decider in the race for the 2013 title.

  1. Festus Mbewe is a very blant striker. He should never be called to the national team anymore.

    • Leave that guy Festus alone…. he is an entertainer!! Scoring goals like Ronaldo, Messi, Agualo is boring. Football is best when fans stand-up holding hands on their heads in disbelief, while player (Fetus) holds him waist in disbelief….

  2. But zo-ona konkola mine police tulimubwafya. tayakawame with one team in preamier next year. work hard guyz akalast.

  3. I’m not a Nkana supporter but i still remember the best Kalampa team assembled in a long time.
