Masaiti District Commissioner, Joseph Mwambana has cautioned residents in the district not to take advantage of the newly opened maternity waiting house by carelessly impregnating women.

Speaking at the opening of the new K 299, 000 worth Mukolwe Maternity waiting house at Mukolwe Health Centre in Masaiti District, Mr. Mwambana said there is need for men to be responsible by implementing family planning methods.

He said despite the maternity services which will now be easily accessible in the district men should take a leading role in implementing family palnning mehtods.

“This facility shouldn’t encourage you to impregnate women anyhow, there is still need to exercise planned parenthood,” the District Commissioner said.

Mr. Mwambana said the new facility constructed by the Planned Parenthood Association of Zambia (PPAZ) and the Japanese Organisation For International Corporation in Family Planning (JOICFP) will help reduce maternal deaths in the district.

And PPAZ National Chairperson, Mary Zulu said maternal health was an imperative human right.

Dr. Zulu stated that according to statistics, 90 percent of women who die during pregnancy or child birth annually worldwide are from Africa.

She said it is for this reason that JOICFP and International Planned Parenthood Foundation (IPPF) have rolled out different interventions worldwide in order to reduce the number of women dying of preventable complications during pregnancy and childbirth.
Meanwhile, JOICFP National Chairperson Sumi Yamaguchi, urged women in the district to make use of the facility in order to improve maternal health in Masaiti District.

    • It is a throw-back; it is like being in the 70s when we had a shortage of leaders who could actually articulate. It appears the recycling didn’t even get these guys to improve.

    • That is careless talk from Mwambana. Men and women have equal responsibility in deciding if and when to have a baby!

  1. When you have nothing to say just shut up those things are either built by donors or tax payers money so dont insult people with your cadre mentality stupid mad cow baboon

  2. I can’t understand your comments most of you imbeciles. if you live in thatched houses, you dare not throw stones. LT is just bringing you something on the ground somewhere somehow, especially where you and i are not. if you a perfect living thing then make senses out of every nonsense…I think the DC’s advice and the cobra’s warning are timely…UMUNTU TABOMBA ALEFYALA FYALA FYE….MP nao, AFOLA FYE ISHA MAHALA….

  3. The DC should have addressed this to women as well. By cautioning men only, he is implying that men are always the initiators when it comes to marital sex. But I have read many court cases in newspapers where wives have sued for divorce because their husbands do not “attend” to them regularly. There is a possibility that husbands with such wives can have a chain of children.

  4. I suppose the DC meant adherence to FAMILY PLANNING rather ‘careless impregnations’ there is no such a thing- carefully or careless executed ‘pregnancy is pregnancy’

  5. What this guy meant is don’t impregnate women without family planning now that maternity facility is not a problem. But I guess there was no need for him to say that. It just shows that he has low I.Q.

  6. i thought he meant one man impregnating 77 women and leave them to care for the babies as single mothers. later on die of aids leaving behind atleast 77 orphans. now thats careless.
