Sudan test Zambia’s Cecafa unbeaten run

Share

Zambia’s unbeaten run at the 2013 Cecafa Cup in Kenya will be tested on Tuesday when they face Sudan in semifinals in Mombasa.

Patrice Beaumelle’s side head into the penultimate stage match on the back of three wins and a draw.

While Sudan have produced some efficient football in Kenya, Zambia has gone about their win will some no-frills action that they have sprinkled with a sparkling performance by the red-hot midfielder Felix Katongo.

The game will mark the two teams second grudge match meeting this year since drawing 1-1 in a 2014 World Cup qualifier in Ndola with memories of the three points awarded to Zambia also still very fresh on Sudan’s mind.

Tuesday game will also pit the tournament’s top two marks men.

Zambia will line up Festus Mbewe on three goals while Sudan are set to start Ibrahim Salah who leads the Cecafa standings on four goals.

Salah is not new to Beaumelle after the striker broke Zambia’s hearts at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola with the equaliser in that draw last June.

And Beaumelle will demand more from Mbewe and his strikers after they fired blanks against Burundi in Sunday’s post-match penalty win over the latter.

Goalkeeper Toaster Nsabata and Zambia’s backline too are set for their biggest test against a side that possess more clinical finishing than any other side they have met to date in Kenya.

Winner will progress to Thursdays final in Nairobi to face either Kenya or Tanzania who clash in the early kickoff at Machakos on Tuesday.

    • Really, did you even read the article or you just skimmed through in a rush to being the first to comment?

Read the article again. Sudan has not beaten Zambia yet, and probably won’t! Or are you talking about the win they forfeited during the WC qualifiers, because Sudan didn’t win in Ndola.

In any case, that’s not what this story is about. What a loser…………..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • @YambaYamba, did you read what Mushota wrote or just skimmed through so you be first to critisize as usual?
Mushota didn’t mention winning against Zambia, but Mushota was refering to previous games which brought them to face Zambia. She wrote WAS not WILL. What a loser you are….

    • Why all this bitterness in you? Is it so difficult for you to accept the fact that Zambia is playing rubbish football at the moment. If you took time to watch the game between Sudan and Ethiopia i am sure you were going to accept the fact that Sudan cant fall to Zambia. Chipolopolo is finished. Sudan is wining that cup.

  1. Sudan are a tough opposition. They managed to silence Ethiopia who were fresh from the FIFA world cup qualifying matches against Nigeria.Good luck Zambia!

    • But only one player from the world cup qualifiers . And the Kenyan commentators keep referring to Zambia as the ‘former African champions’ . ( true , but they should also mention that none of those players were there ).

  2. Though Mushota has excellent credentials on sarcasm, He/She may right if she/he is refering to tomorrow, cos that what we’ll all be saying.
I dont think Zambia can proceed with that type of display as shown against
Burundi. Unless something has drastically changed since then. So dont raise your hopes that high !!!

    • You are right ! Sudan played better against Ethiopia than Zambia played against Burundi ! Anything can happen ! But the game will ( of course ) start at 0-0 !

  3. Sate sate has been a passenger, he is no where to be seen. No wonder HR never called him to national team!!
We need to improve our game or else Sudan is winning.

  4. Zambia 1 – 2 Sudan
What a cracker of a goal by the Sudanese striker Abdulah Salah.A last minute defensive lapse cost the Chipolopolo a place in the final. You can’t watch a striker chest the ball in the 18-teen area and hammer a volley.volley. Thats what you call ball watching.Any how it’s a learning curve for the young team.Good luck to the 3rd and 4 th round playoffs

  5. How can they allow 2 goals in 7 minutes when they were leading? All they needed was to defend Kampamba,s goal, very painful indeed when they even played well that,s unacceptable!

  6. We are here , we did it ! .. Bye bye zambia and optimistic guys ! Sudan is great , thank u J J above commenter and soccer analyst
