The ruling Patriotic Front (PF) has been advised not to gloss over Geoffrey Mwamba’s resignation from his Ministerial position because the value he brought to government is indisputable.
In a statement rerleased to the media today the Open Society Foundation (OSF) said that it was of the view that the PF as an organization must not be misled by alleged disgruntled elements and malicious tabloids which seek to claim that Mwamba’s departure from government is good riddance.
Below is the full statement
OPEN SOCIETY FOUNDATION
SUNDAY CHANDA, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
PRESS STATEMENT 25/12/2013
PF WILL MINIMIZE GBM’S RESIGNATION AT ITS OWN PERIL
We wish to salute the decision taken by former Defence Minister Hon. Geoffrey Mwamba to resign his position on a matter of principle.
We further call on other Ministers, especially those who are Paramount Chief Chitimukulu’s subjects to make their position known, and that if Government cannot reverse the decision on Chitimukulu and Bemba-speaking people, let them make a choice between keeping their jobs and defending their heritage.
We also wish to advise PF not to gloss over GBM’s resignation because President Sata as an individual and PF as an organization know too well the undisputable value that GBM brought to them. PF, as an organization must not be misled by disgruntled elements and malicious tabloids which seek to claim that GBM’s departure from Government is good riddance.
If PF seeks to prove the depth and width of the impact created by GBM’s resignation, let them gather courage and expel him from the Party so that a by-election is created in Kasama Central.
[pullquote]If PF seeks to prove the depth and width of the impact created by GBM’s resignation, let them gather courage and expel him from the Party so that a by-election is created in Kasama Central.[/pullquote]
It is a shame that Government has failed to make a decision that borders on common-sense when it touches on Chitimukulu and the Bemba-speaking people. Government Ministers still silent under the spell of collective responsibility are doing a disservice to the Chitimukulu and Bemba-speaking people and the nation at large and soon, they will begin to reap their harvest.
We doubt the value of collective responsibility Government seeks to raise GBM’s resignation when it is public knowledge that fighting Chitimukulu remains a matter highly polarizing to the nation at large.
We ask Government to reflect on the essence and value of collective responsibility. Those with the gift of knowledge within Government know too well that collective responsibility does not extend to unjustifiable actions which pronounce unreasonableness such as barring Cabinet Ministers from interacting with their families.
Zambians know too well that the decision to fight the Chitimukulu and the Bemba-speaking people is not meant to unify but weaken the unity of its people and further intimidate weak souls. The essence of collective responsibility comes to safeguard decisions that are made in public interest and public good. It is not make-up designed to cover illegalities and unjustifiable decisions.
[pullquote]The essence of collective responsibility comes to safeguard decisions that are made in public interest and public good. It is not make-up designed to cover illegalities and unjustifiable decisions.[/pullquote]
On this score, we wish to make another call for President Michael Sata and the PF Government to rescind their stance on the installation of Mr. Henry Chanda Sosala Kanyanta Manga as Paramount Chief Chitimukulu.
The Bemba-speaking people, as subjects of Paramount Chief Chitimukulu, will not take kindly maneuvers by government to interfere with its traditional values and heritage. Bemba-speaking people as subjects must reject this agenda by the PF Government to interfere with the installation of Paramount Chief Chitimukulu.
This is also a clarion wake up call to other tribes across the country that a trend happening to the Bemba-speaking people can be transferred to any part of the country by the PF Government.
[pullquote]This is also a clarion wake up call to other tribes across the country that a trend happening to the Bemba-speaking people can be transferred to any part of the country by the PF Government.[/pullquote]
It is for their royal highnesses across Zambia to stand together and speak with one voice against any unorthodox maneuvers by PF to fight and seek to control traditional rulers.
It is for this reason that we have also called on royal highnesses across the country to reject the ban by Government of customary land because they have not been consulted. Government must be reminded that in this day and age, they will not be allowed to rule by decrees and other forms of arbitrariness.
Presidential ambitions are the major reason why GBM has left his post but maintained his seat….this is my hunch.
hahahahahahahaha……ba sand chanda, always yapping . he acts like that 1diot in the film”now you see him now you dont”. reminds me of my good old days. chanda just shut up. just yesterday you were sata’s vuvuzela.
President of Kasama? Not the whole nation tolerates gender violence perpetrators
This Sunday Chanda fellow makes a lot of sense although he really sounds pro-Sosala ; makes me wonder whether this “Open Society Foundation” is not a Bemba organization.
“In matters of style, change with fashion. In matters of principles stand like a rock”-Thomas Jefferson .Thanks GBM for being a man of principles
Not if my dress is there to make a statement!
WHAT DAMN PRINCIPLES ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT YOU CHAP !
@baggs and mr. bean mwaba ubusushi mumitwe. cant u see that there is no gud governance in this country. minungu yenu!!!! hehehehehe talk of governance issues here, that is the major problem we hav, yo government is failing to renovate schools across the country a simple activity even my grandfather from Tanzania can do.
A plausible hunch @ likaki
My hunch is that after due diligence and exhaustive review of Chitimikulu Kanyanta Sosala Manga’s ascendancy government will finally recognise him.
…Meaning GBM’s cause is a lost cause…
Do you really have functioning brains at all. If, as you are saying, the Govt later recognises Chitimukulu, then GBM will have been vindicated and won!
To the contrary, the Govt, and Sata with Kandu Luo will not only have lost BUT severely weakened after spending so much money on a lost cause.
All those soldiers sent to the Chiti’s palace cost money; even the fuel etc cost money and you are telling me it is for a lost cause! You must be plainly mad!
Sata’s brain is not working well…miscalculations on Mandela, campaigning before ECZ declaration, Chitimukulu, etc are all indicative of someone going mad, senile, demented or simply mad! Actually, Sata may be the first President to go mad while in office in Africa or even the World for the first time!
It’s very unfortunate that we should begin to wait for another change of Govt for sane rule..I am nt happy at all.
Advise to Open Society Foundation. PART 1
1.Please take exhaustive research on policy issues before taking a position on matters.
2. Subject your opinions or positions to ‘subject matter’ specialists for input and/or guidance.
3. Do not, repeat, do not react on the spur of the moment. Restrict your contribution to the subject at hand.
4. Be creative and employ initiative by speaking or advocating on key national issues instead of waiting and lying ‘doggo’ to comment on matters after they occur.
5.Read my work: “Policy influencing and advocacy mechanics: guidelines to effective and purposive policy influencing.”
Zambia really has become like a Mandela funeral program, complete with Sata taking the rile of the schizophrenic Thamsanqa Jantjie, explaining his program to the general citizenry by a wayward, erratic and wholly f.u.c.k.e.d up sign language by remote. To day, Zambia is like a plane trying to land with a schizophrenic and erratic maniac at the control tower, this being the Satanic Michael Mulenga Chilufya Zondwa Sata. We are doomed to crash, no doubt!
Unfortunately for ba PF,the only sign language i know uses the middle finger. Can i sign with Sata now?
WE HAVE HAD MORE THAN 200 CABINET MINISTERS SINCE INDEPENDENCE.
NONE HAS EVER BEEN DRAGGED INTO COURT FOR BEATING A WIFE.
NONE WENT INTO CABINET WITH ACADEMIC QUALIFICATION BELOW GRAVE 12.
GBM WAS TOO LUCKY..
mind u that he help pf get int
o power
@ LUAPULA PREMIER. What a shame you are……………………….
Iwe ci Luapula Premier uletusebanya fwe bena Luapula! Tawaishiba ati Mwamba is much more educated than your President? Which one is better, grade 12 or standard 4?
SOMETIME JUST KEEPING QUIET NI BETA!
Inshimbi ninshimbi. GBM has demonstrated maturity which many Zambian politicians can not do
GBM has shown us not to follow Munkombwe’s belly Politics, all other well meaning Ministers should follow suit.
Politians should learn to serve rather than be served.
Knowing small countries like Zambia GBM could get shut out of all his business deals until he gets broke. I hope this rivalry with Sata wont sink that low. I’ve seen it happen in Zambia Zimbabwe Lesotho Malawi
GBM has taken all that into account! What you see in Zambia is only a small fraction of his wealth. His money is abroad earning interest in Euro Accounts.
Remember, before 2011 elections, GBM even sent SataN to go and deposit some of his money in a foreign account. But SataN went mad and became careless only to be caught in SA with a bag of money he couldnt account for!
Sata was only let off when GBM claimed the money was his…GBM is known as a tycoon worlwide.
GBM even paid Sata a small commission of 10% and Sata was so happy and ever so grateful!
He survived all that before. It’s PF at stake, what has The office of the Zambian presidency got to do with Chieftainships. In this situation, to be honest, the presidency in Zambia is a Prime. Ministerial job, while the Chiefdom being a custodian of ancestral and origins right are the heads of the people. Underrate the power chiefs at your own peril.
Sata put all his eggs in one basket by filling his cabinet with bemba. Am sure he no longef feels safe. Good lesson for all.
So what? If PF perishes, is that not good news for Zambia? Let them continue fighting Chitimukulu so that we get a new government. Come on Sata degazette all the other bemba chiefs to add fire to this shyte
Kikikikiki! I agree
SUNDAY CHANDA kanamunungu tuwe, uyo nyelela kafoo masipa amina a buBemba ao! Sata hana fumbela ku kunupa maLozi, wena kanti king’i hanosika lu yemela? Sata ki muBemba wa habo wena, ye ki ndwa ya bana ba mba, luna basili ku kena kwateni luta tabukelwa feel ki mali. Leave us alone, you voted for the lunatic emass so ripe what you sow!
iwe kalubale you think I understand this greek you are writing here. what will you have said if its only yourself who knows and understand the meaning? 1diot use english
@ matipa. You are a low level being to desparage bo Ngombala using silozi and calling him ‘iwe’ kalubale. So you being Bemba can use ‘iwe’……? Wena sikuba ukaise. Kozo bondate Ngombala.
@Matipa: You need not disgrace yourself the way you are trying to. English is never the only language bloggers have chosen to use on this blog. Please wake-up to the reality that Zambia is a multi-lingual society. If you had manners, you would have asked for an interpretation of what the individual has written.
Matipa, don’t just expose your ignorance with arrogance!! This is not luvale, muppet! By the way, is “iwe” an English word?
What??
very back ward
use english so that we read what you say! If evryone wrote in they’re tribe who can hear evrythng
Sunday Chanda is a typical bemba tribalist who supported PF in everything they did till they started sorting out GBM.
It seems,Sunday now has come to his senses, unlike the way he used to behave especially the hatred he had for Dr Mumba.
Sata is a spent force. To all my mbuyaz excluding useful idiots i say arise and finish off the snake holed up in state house. The name sata must be banned after he leaves because it only takes one letter at the end to understand the current confussion in the country.
GBM, get ready for law enforcement forces to visit you. Maize from FRA export to Zimbabwe, army single sourcing and Zesco failed pole tandem.
GBM, you are finisto, my cousin from the north
In your dreams!
Many have tried to finish him since the times of MMD, but they have failed! Sata is busy crippling himself and Zambia!
Zambians get ready to defend GBM. GBM you have my support and those of many colleagues I have spoken with. From the South we have NO fear of anyone but someone’s wife!!
I will defend GBM for he has shown that he is man with balls of steal. GBM should team up with HH. The two will be heavy weights against Sata. He won’t touch them.
@ Wanzelu , do you mean ” balls of steel ” or “balls of steal ?”
sunday! Am bemba myself talk on your behalf not the stool you soiling all of us with.
No way george bush; you cannot be Bemba or else you would have been defending your cultural heritage. Or are you in that despicable minority group (nchelebula of Munkobwe shameless politics of kulya and benefit) that will sell their soul for a pot of porridge Esau style. You a re the one who is stoooool……. And I am NOT Bemba but half Tonga / Lozi.
I think Ka george bush should be a mugolegole from marapodi, never mind him .
Sundays TRIBALISM is appalling.
Sunday Chanda is stating a statement of fact! Tell your government to reverse its decision on chitimukulu
Viva Sunday Chanda!
Ba Sunday, good points!
I dont think by making this statement, Sunday Chanda is becoming a tribalist. Honestly, Sunday is Bemba and do we expect him to remain quite when his paramount chief is being fought? Really?? I believe sunday has raised important issues and which must be reflected on seriously by government.
Right from the onset, GBM made a grave mistake of starting the endorsement issue. That really exposed his political immaturity and presidential ambitions. Those issues should have been discussed internally and sorted out. Not withstanding that point, I feel there is need to democratise political parties in Zambia. All parties should have clear guidelines on leadership structures and change of leadership. What is so difficult with having a national party presidential campaign before a party leader is elected? Unless this is done, we will always end up with serious problems associated with succession. Opposition parties should take the lead in this process.
Point well-taken. Although, I would have thought that the MMD has a democratic structure like the one you have alluded to. It’s noteworthy that GBM resigned from the MMD, probably in order to look for a short-cut to the presidency in PF. Even this latest move that he has made, could still turn out to be yet another GBM attempt at a shorter route, the Sata style.
When Sata felt that he had been ignored by Chiluba in the succession process in MMD, he opted to leave the party and form his own. The odds were clearly against him. Some may have sympathized with him at the time. But over time, his strategy worked. It paid off and today, Sata is at Plot One! With such a strong propensity for the presidency, GBM may have reasoned likewise. Fortunately for him, has the purse!
Indeed, it’s vexing that a man would be spearheading the Sata re-election campaign when the man is hardly midway through his first term, all spoiled by stinking failures and wholly pointing to a term of wasted time, but then proceed to resign over a basic tribal matter. It shows there are many under currents that have led to this obese wife-battering lunatic to bail out. With his zero educational background, he can go maybe try to be MCC for Northern. The next you will hear is he wants the border of Muchinga and Northern redrawn. As for ka Matipa above, mwaiche ba fye pa kenge, wabe ilitole limo fa kalukobo, kaboke iwe. What I wrote is Barotse, come to South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho & learn it.
Sunday Chanda muntu and makes good points!!
@Sitimela
You know like any i d i o t that Government at some point will have to give in and gazette Sosala as Chief. GBM knows it or is he that daft?
So why should any academically and morally enlightened human make it a personal agenda? Why did he not just wait for the issue to resolve itself or use his money to privately hire a good attorney to fight for Sosala if he was so concerned?
FACT…GBM does have presidential ambitions, something which he has made public. His dreams may be realized because of the “depth of his pocket”. Now, he is a free agent for us to expose his moral bankruptcy and and his shallow academic record.
News of GBM ( Gone BY MISTAKE) should be over now, LT give us data on KK marrying nkomeshya, link zambia8000 projects ,how is mpombo doing in jail, where is masumba now, such is news we want

GBV can never be my president so if he resigned because of presidential ambition alabeko fye. However he is 200% right to take the stand he did because He is from the house of Mwamba. Sata wants him to take sides fight with his own Grandfather HOW?? Any sane person would chose family. Also on the subject of Chitimukulu – we are tired of these chibesakundas and chikwandas, the BISA’s Sata is trying to force on zambia, starting from the supreme court to the Bemba Royal Establishment is he acting as the president of all of us or just the president waku MPIKA? Leave ba mwine lubemba alone or else. Taba tuka imfumu ka… Nkandu Luo take note!!! The rest of you other cheifs take note, this govt has come to erode and usurp your authority. Stand by and let whats happening to Chitimukulu happen

@ LUAPULA PREMIER
‘You know like any i d i o t that Government at some point will have to give in and gazette Sosala as Chief. GBM knows it or is he that daft?’. ARE YOU SURE YOU KNOW SATA VERY WELL? HE COULD HAVE FIRED GBM IN ORDER TO EMBARRASS HIM. BUT GBM OUTWITTED HIM AND RESIGNED. SATA INSTEAD BLAMED GBM USING COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY AS AN EXCUSE. COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY TO COMMIT A CRIME OF WANTING TO INSTALL A BISA AS CHITIMUKULU? WAKE UP BA PREMIER. DO NOT BE SHY TO FACE FACTS.
@ CHILYATA. YABA, YOU HAVE CRACKED MY RIBS. ATI ‘Sata’s brain is not working well…miscalculations on Mandela, campaigning before ECZ declaration, Chitimukulu, etc are all indicative of someone going mad, senile, demented or simply mad! Actually, Sata may be the first President to go mad while in office in Africa or even the World for the first time!’
GBM’s resigantion has rised alot of interest from academcians whose interest is to define democracray, he might not be a graduate, but his reasoning is bove such, in that Heywood A(2002:68) defines democracy as the ‘a system of rule by the poor and disadvantanged- a system based on equal opportunity and individual merit, rather than hierarchy and privilege’ we might need to learn who the poor are and how far should the popular rule extend in kasama.
Don’t look at a person’s tribe, race or gender instead look at the content of the issues raised. Sunday Chanda has a point!
Ba Sata Batusebanya saana. Please leave Chitimukulu alone. We’ll never love u again mudala for yo actions.Maybe u want PF to loose elections in 2016 knowing that u don’t have a leader to take over from u.I’ve seen that already.
U r miles away from the topic at hand, let’s b in phase in order to remain relevant
Can GBM win Kasama Central on UPND ticket?? just wondering …. your thoughts??
Sunday Chanda was pro PF, now looks like he has become wise for no apparent reason, maybe job was not forthcoming. Anyway I salute you for coming to your senses
I CAN’T SUPPORT PF STANCE OVER BRE, TRADITIONAL MATTERS SHUD BE MANAGED BY TRADITIONAL LEADERS, GOV’T INTERFERANCE IS REGRETABLE.
