Opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) has announced plans to hold a public protest to press government to address the economic challenges that the people of Zambia have been subjected to.
UPND Deputy Secretary General Kuchunga Simusamba has told Qfm that the Zambian people in 2013 have suffered and things should change in 2014.
Mr. Simusamba says this is why his party has found it necessary to hold a protest and petition government over the economic mismanagement that has led to the high cost of living.
Mr. Simusamba says the high Mealie meal prices, high fuel and transport costs, high cement prices and unaffordable school fees are some of the things the UNPD intends to present to President Michael Sata.
He notes that said protest of his party which will be held under the theme “No more bufi” is scheduled to take place on Wednesday the 8th of January 2014 from 10 hours to 15 hours starting from the UPND secretariat to State house.
Mr. Simusamba has affirmed that the protest by his party is in the quest to make ensure that things get better for the people in the country.

UPND go for it. It seems protests is the only language of confrontation thats going to force these PF f.o.o.ls to take people’s suffering seriously.
UPND has in the past used less contentious channels to ask the government to address the suffering of the people, but Sata the VSTC would not listen at all. So protests and more protests please are the only way to make this useless PF government realise that Zambians can no longer be taken for granted.

Straight to the main issue. Our current govt is lacking merit of regulation of price essential day to day commodities. Otherwise it only takes people that fully understand the economics of such important commodities.
For ANY party in power, I would like them to ensure Zed progresses economically etc so that we the people have a better life and hope for our children and children’s children. I want assurance from ba Sata that we are going in the right direction since the exchange rate, inflation, poverty and other fundamentals (economic, monetary) and as confirmed by the IMF are facing the other side of progress.

Just wondering what the protest will bring about. It is not a bad idea though. What one wonders is UPND’s position on national issues. It appears UPND knows only one way of politicking- squabbling- not different at all from their former partner PF. Both PF and UPND are incapable of leading Zambia out of its current misery. Zambia needs to look at other options and I find NAREP very appealing because of their issue-based and solution focused style.

Unfortunately it now looks like only Muchinga will rally behind PF depending on what GBM plans to do next. Already the PF foundations in these provinces have drastically been shaken and Sata is in a panic mood. If he is not careful this is what will send him to the grave early.

Deny it at your own peril. UPND’s message is filtering through each second that passes when people can’t make ends meet. Each time people complain about price increases,non availability of meali meal or non vailability of qualified nurses in our hospitals they are constantly being reminded of UPND’s fight with the PF government about their plight. Between the PF and UPND people are beginning to realise that UPND is the only hope because its a party led by 1000% sane and qualified people who deserve to be called POLITICIANS not POLOTICIANS (BELLYTICIANS).
God can never let his people suffer under PF for a long time. He is in control thats why the PF is beginning to crumble. Many more will soon leave the party to join either MMD or the party of the future UPND.
in as much as it hurts me, I have to agree with Luapula on this one and in a way, I feel Luapula, whether he admits it to himself or not, is beginning to realise that maybe PF was not such a good idea after all. HH needs to open offices ku ba bemba. Now is the time to start getting them to know him. Roads yes, buildings yes but who will use these nice things if all of us die out of hunger? Mealie meal price is just too high for an average Zambian and you add up transport, increased ZESCO tariffs, Cement to mention but a few. As we protest let us sing and match peacefully and make the GRZ know that people are dying. Nurses are no longer in employment yet prices shoots high, who will save unemployed brothers and sisters from hunger?

I applaud UPND’s decision to hold public rallies. However, the message needs to be specific. Protesting about such an open topic as poor economic policies shows lack of focus. It is a difficult sell. A specific policy, such as the high mealie meal prices, would make a better rallying cry.
