Six Patriotic Front cadres who disrupted a PF provincial meeting in Kasama last Thursday have appeared in Kasama Magistrate Court yesterday charged with breach of peace and assault.
Before Magistrate Kelvin Soma was Charles Chama 41, Whiteson Mutanta, 35 and Christopher Malama 35.Others were Frank Mbewe 34, Wedson Sinkolowe 42 and Ireen Chitonge 41 all members of the ruling party. The PF cadres are jointly charged for conduct likely to cause breach of peace contrary to section 178 Sub-section (f) Cap 87 of the laws of Zambia.
Particulars of the offence are that in count one, it is alleged that on 26th December, 2013 between 11:00 and 12:00 hours the accused persons whilst acting together did disrupt a meeting of their rival camp at the Kasama Municipal Council Chamber.
In count two, Malama and Mbewe are alleged to have assaulted Chiba ward Councillor who is also a member of the PF Provincial Committee, Rosemary Chilufya contrary to section 248 Chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia.
Last Thursday, supporters of Kasama Central Member of Parliament Geoffrey Mwamba stormed a PF provincial executive meeting that took place at the council chamber and disrupted the proceedings.
The group later assaulted some PF officials in the process who reported the matter to police.
The PF meeting was called to make arrangements in readiness for the visit by two members of the Central Committee Miles Sampa and Jean Kapata who were in Kasama to engage lower party organs on party activities.
PF Provincial Secretary Evarist Chela condemned the act by Mr Mwamba’s supporters and urged the police to arrest the culprits.
Magistrate Soma adjourned the matter to Thursday, 2nd January, 2014 for mention and setting of trial dates.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges before the court yesterday.
The accused have since been denied bail and remanded at Milima State Prison pending court appearance.

War Within.
Where are those cadres who killed an innocent boy in Lusaka and those who disrupted UPND meetings in Kasama?
Tulye nabo. The belly calls for the headmen
These are labour pains the PF is experiencing, it’s pregnant and has to give birth to another confused party before 2016! Just as it was born out of dissent, so shall it bring up one or more from Chigololo..
Ba GBM ekupwa kwabo
Mwamba pls control those cadres who are just after your money and nothing else.Let ous respect our selfves and ensure that we dont proclaim death.Na mwe ma Cadres ,sure you can not do something other than fighting?Mwamba says he is PF.Let him use his money alone with his family wisely.Remember God has given you something you can utilize to the fullest and not ya Mwamba. He will as well get back His gifts if at any means we abuse them.
Zambia having escaped the clutches of dictatorship is 1991, has slid back into being a banana republic! in the 60’s, 70’s and even the 80’s such behavior from leaders of Africa where criticism of government, dissent and opposition were punished with prison sentences and judicial murders, was the norm. It is unfortunate that in the 21st century, Zambia which has been one of the best democracies since 1991 is now descending into being kangaroo country.
I weep for mother Zambia! Our country is on a slope to self destruction and our people that voted for this disaster are watching, and even at times supporting the flagrant injustice and rape of democracy!
Arise, the people of Zambia!
Patriot said in Watchdog; “Are you a Zambian? Your name does not sound like. Why should you claim our land if you are not Zambian!” This, to Chidakwase born in Zambia and migrated to USA at age 33 in 2001 complaining about Zambian diplomat to Zimbabwe who has grabbed his land illegaly. I had to comment and since ZWD does not publish my comments I brought the issue to LT.
Just to say to Patriot that qualification for Zambian citizenship is not by the sound of a name. It is by birth (Chidakwase was born in Zambia and still holds a Zambian passport as he is not yet an American citizen but only a resident), by descent and naturalisation. To Patriot, I say, shut your dirty mouth and keep that heap of ignorance to yourself. You are the kind that embarrasses us Zambians and our leaders…
Now that the name of the Zambian Diplomat who is behind the grabbing of land illegaly is know, he should start parking because definetly once the President confirms the report he will recall him to come and face charges. There are 2 areas where I commend PF; road construction and protection of land from party cadres. In MMD and UNIP cadres stole land with impunity but the PF has reversed that barbaric practice. On these issues, it is VIVA PF.
well spelled man, the cadres were very powerful and even had numbers for the president in the mmd govmt. this time its actually the opposition cadres who are vocal. threats all over
what are these cadres supporting mwamba for? why not form his own party so that they are free to support him more? all the best
Disrupting the meeting by cadres was not good, but let us be fair in our dealings. This I mean let us not show favoritism in whichever form in whichever place or whichever situation. Arresting and charging offenders must be squarely.
The life was lost at one time last year, how was the case handled? Were those people locked up and denied bail? Where are they now? I am a lay man so I have no idea about what the law says in these issues but it is common sense. Will someone who knows the law please advice on what is happening whether the law of the land is applied equally. Any way, law is law
God is a fair judge
and were are those who disrupted a church service in matero
Rwanda, South Sudan; the atrocities in these countries had routes in ethnic and political manipulations, typical of what is obtaining in Zambia under PF. Lets learn from them and avoid plunging our country into mayhem.
Pf is a dead party and. Its about to be barried in chingwere
