Government says it is yet to establish the problem in Northern province surrounding the fuel shortage between Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and the dealers.
Chief Government Spokesperson Mwansa Kapeya says petrol, diesel and kerosene is plenty in the nine provinces but regretted the development in Northern province.
Mr Kapeya, who is also Information and Broadcasting Services Minister, challenged the OMCs and filling station owners against creating an artificial shortage not only in that region but the country as a whole.
He was speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today.
“The matter of fuel shortage in Northern province is between OMCs and the dealers otherwise the commodity is plenty and abundance. Government is yet to establish the problem soon,” Mr Kapeya said.
The Information Minister however, assured that the situation would be normalized soon as government through the Ministry of Mines, Energy and Water Development is taking urgent measures through dialogue.
Nakonde and Kaputa districts in Northern province have been hit by a critical shortage of fuel and the situation has paralyzed business in the border towns.
It is reported that some motorists in the province have even packed their vehicles after the filling stations ran out of the commodity.

Hey minister of lies and misinformation, don’t pull a fast on some us. We know Sata’ s devilish strategy very well. He has instructed Kabimba ‘s oil company to cut down oil supply to Kasama to punish the people for GBM ‘s resignation. In his stupid mind he thinks that he is crippling GBM’s business operation and yet he making the poor Kasama people to suffer.
GBM has trucks, he can go any where to buy his fuel but what the ordinary people, they are suffering because of the stand off between Sata and GBM.
To those who don’t know how shrewd Sata is, let me tell this, the fuel shortage in Kasama is artificial and it is Sata’s creation. Remember Sata via Kabimba he controls fuel supply around the country.

Kapeya claims that fuel is available in all provinces except Northern. If this is true then the reasons for the shortage up north must be political, bear in mind that currently that is where things are happening.

I think the fuel shortage is because of the season. This is a planting season and so farmers are buying all the seed. But Govt is going to order FRA to offload seed to the millers, so that fuel can be available!
