Former Finance minister Ng’andu Magande has asid that Zambia is headed for a disastrous food security situation.

Mr.Magande told Qfm News in an interview that it was unfortunate and worrying to note that three quarters of the farmers across the country have not yet received farming inputs under the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP)

Mr Magande said that this was likely to cause hunger in many areas of the country.

Mr. Magande has since advised government to focus much on key Sectors of the economy such as agriculture or risk dragging the country into a disastrous food security situation.

Mr Magande who is also National Movement for Progress leader said that the agriculture, health, mining and manufacturing sectors are key to achieving a sustainable economic growth.

Mr. Magande stressed that at the pace the country is moving, the signs are clear that the Patriotic Front will again fail to attain its economic growth targets for this year.

He added that claims by the Patriotic Front that they have performed well in the last two years they have been in power are fake and frustrating to the majority Zambians.

Mr. Magande said that the ruling PF has totally miscalculated on how best they can achieve economic growth by failing to create good strategies that can help generate revenue through mining, agriculutre and manufacturing industries.

  1. It seems like this is one area that most African governments have a problem with.Since unip time there has been food problems in our country.only God will bring an end to this.

    • But during the mwanawasa regime (mhsrip), the country had surely started get right on food security. Evidence is there. PF was supposed to build on that but alas!!!!!

    • Let us also be wary of the distraction and garbage spawned by sponsored cadres like Luapula Premier, Chinyama, Mushota, Haleisa Halenya, JO, and their kind. Those guys don’t have Zambia’s interest at heart. They are just being used.

JO, Zambians will forgive you just like they did forgive a certain sell-out constable. But hope your conscience is clear whenever you insult.

    • Bwana Mkubwa. I agree with a regular blogger who simple says…..@Luapula Premier…..a waste of space…..shame. Where are these shameless people who should not sire any children lest they produce mules. Where is this group of hideous individuals who Munkombwe style can sell their own mother, wife and daughters to pimps for a pot of porridge. Mulikwisa ba s.w.ine mambalas greedy sellouts Luapula Premier aka Mpundu Trust, Chinyama, Mushota, Haleisa Halenya, Jo???

    • Please leave my name, out of this hatred, I have existed on LT since 2007

Those nonenties that have just started reading the tabloid are undermining
      something impregnable

LT can confirm, I have stood the test of time and analysed articles based on their worthy with integrity, intelligence and calling a spade a spade

It saddens me that most of the lost shop here who were throwing stones at MMD and UPND and advocating to see PF take over are suddenly tired of PF and wants a man who is untested in political spectrum and is rather spouting out words that they have forgotten then have heard before.

I am not into politics, I am an academic who knows that we are better off having PF, certainly now
Mr Hakainde’s time will come but please God let it not be in 2016

      Thanks

    • Thank you Mushota. I knew your comments to be sober. But of late, especially on HH threads, your typical comment is “HH go away”, “HH will never be president” etc without substantiating. My appeal is that stop being hasty and put a bit of real beef behind your blogs.

Remember, our eyes are on you.

    • Mushota has begun to see past the end of her nose. A round of applause ladies and gentlemen! Let us all embrace forgiveness and welcome our lost sheep. To err is human but it takes real ‘balls’ to own up.

  2. I beg to disagree with you, even though the MMD under RB had many faults, food security or is it insecurity, was not one of them. Before PF, we were exporting maize to Zimbabwe and SA with and still had over 1 million tonnes in food reserves. PF have just mismanaged this sector just like they are mismanaging many more. Sichinga is even running out of excuses, first it was that people were hoarding maize for seeds, then it’s the millers fault, soon it will be smuggling.

    • Its true that the PF government have mismanaged alot of things in this country and Agriculture is one the worst. Bob is a failure practically i.e. has failed in the Ministries he has served.
The PF government should have prioritized agriculture first, then tourism in order to grow the economy unlike mining which is destroying our land with very very little benefits to the general public. Farmer should have been supported more than ever so that we become the food basket for the region as we know that the surrounding countries are not performing well in agric hence have food shortages. We should have been exporting mealie meal to earn us FOREX from with the region, not to ban exportation of this commodity. We need to ban export of maize not mealie meal which is a finished product.

  3. During RB’s time in office he left bumper harvests, record forex reserves and an over abundance of goodwill and friendliness of neighbor states. Now Sata has achieved the treble…the opposite treble.

  4. Kidnappers,sata and the cartels
    Victims,new constitution.
    Hostages,Zambian.
Ransom demand, cancellation of debt.(14billion),pf owes post for publicity.
    Rescue,1937-2014(mhsrip),

  5. This PF government has no idea which direction they are heading or taking the country into, everything is testing 12.PF is a failed project.

  6. MMD delivered us into the filth we are wallowing in right this minute. Due to their misgovernance and plunder, they provoked patient and long-suffering citizens into a dangerous gamble and voted PF! A colossal blunder as it has turned out. The advice Magande is dishing is sound, but who is going to listen to him? Cumbu Munshololwa Sata? No ways! Practical steps to take would be to find ways to get rid of PF before 2016. Another two years of roller coasting on a dangerous wild beast’s back would end in a shattering disaster for the country at the rate we are galloping.

    • Practical steps indeed my brother.

Let us all concerned Zambians raise as one and put aside petty tribal bias and rally behind HH. At present, this is the only HONEST way for Zambia. Let us look beyond the greed, bitterness and lies being peddled by the PAST Newspaper and unite to save our country.

Let us also be wary of the distraction and garbage spawned by sponsored cadres like Luapula Premier, Chinyama, Mushota, Haleisa Halenya, Jo-Jo, and their kind. Those guys don’t have Zambia’s interest at heart. They are just being used.

    • @Wantanshi
Don’t blame the MMD for the mess we are in but blame Fred Mmembe. The MMD only went out to get the K14b owed to the Zambian people by Mmembe and Nchito, the very people who are now running the country and ruining it just like they did with Zambian Airways. And if you are objective and not a PF cadre, you should be praising the MMD for they stood up for you. Nonetheless, Mmembe had the tools to brainwash all of us in believing that the MMD were thieves and looting the coffers. However evidence suggests the exact opposite. Best forex reserves, bumper harvests and exporting to other countries, freedom of speech and notably peaceful handover of power to the now failures who are doing the exact opposite.

    • @It’s a worry, you are so right…uliryti yere… Guillible Zambians believed in Membe. They went in droves to stop Membe paying back K14bn. I salute Zambians for their shortsightedness. I am sure Membe will be able to place another of hi stooges as president. You may just find you are led by Mutembo Nchito or Nchima or Patrick Matibini.

  7. This off topic but in the same vein of PF nonsense:
Here are a few questions that immediately sprung to mind when I heard that from 17th Jan, all govt, quasi govt and missionary schools will be expected to teach all subjects in local languages from reception to grade 4 and that English will just be another subject:
    1. Are teachers trained to teach subjects like maths and science in local languages?
    2. Are there any Maths and Science Text books in local languages?
    3. When a child or teacher is transfered from say Western to Northern Province, how will these logistics be dealt with?
    5. Did the Ministry of Education carry out extensive feasibility studies in all provinces over this matter?
    6. What happens to all the non-tonga speaking children in Southern Province?

    • This is one of the most dangerous announcements that will breed chaos in our educational system and pitch tribe against tribe. Watch. what will the language of instruction be in North Western Province for what is the mother tongue of the children in this diverse province…Chokwe, Lunda, Luchazi, Luvale, KiKaonde etc. And then you get into the controversial Kaoma districts of the Mwine Kahare/Mutondo and the duel with the Lozi aristocracy?! God help us. What of the Ngoni and Chewa dichotomy? What is the accepted mother tongue in the melting pots of copperbelt and along the line of rail? Isnt this a way of creating a ‘dominant’ tribe? Police and Army use Nyanja or will a certain tribe perhaps close to Bisa be now christened as the new linqua franca? We are in trouble!!

    • My children only speak Nyanja having grown up in Lusaka. So will any of them ever aspire to be a teacher since they perhaps can only end up in Eastern Province as they will have no career prospects in Luapula, NorthWestern and the numerous districts that we now have (any one keeping count?). Compatriots, let us resist anything that emphasises tribe in this nation with 73+ tribes. South Africa is easy, they have certain recognised tribes, Zimbabwe has two major ones, Botswana has one. Stop this mad.nes.s

  8. l would not cross the road to listen to this guy who introduced a ponzi scheme called sudsidies-where he spent $500m a year trading maize at a loss- buying it expensively from farmers and selling it at a loss to millers-this is the guy who sold zanaco for no reason at all and gave kcm to the useless mwenyes -he needs to fall on his knees and ask for forgiveness from the Zambians for squandering the boon in copper prices when he was in charge of the treasury-he has no road or infrastructure to show from the proceeds of the copper boon-it all went to subsidies

  9. The only solution to these problems is : a people driven constitution. We need constitution that will prevent the president from acts of Nepotism and favouritism.

Mwanawasa was a good president coz he appointed his team on Merit.

  10. JO! YOU ARE SUCH AN IDIOT! Someone is trying to proffessionally advise and u are busy insulting him coz of self centred motives which can’t Benefit the country! Uli CHIPUBA, SWINE!

  11. Don’t you know that this is deliberate in order to create an opportunity to first borrow 100s of millions of dollars from the west to feed Zambians as they get their commisions on loans, and secondly to import maize and agric inputs at inflated prices making thier markups in millions of dollars. That is all these PF guys are in government for- to loot big time. By the time you chaps realise and have chased them away from Plot 1, they will be hiding somewhere in the bahamas or Cuba with billions of dollars.

  12. I don’t understand the minister meant when he said
that we don’t want our children to forget their mother tongue. We need to debate whether the seven languages are truly representative of all the seventy three tribes in the times country . I feel a lot of them aren’t a represented.

  13. Chanda Chimba warned Zambians. See exactly what is happening. Chachine niba chumbu munshololwa. KK, Chiluba, Mwanawasa (mhsrp) even our own RB is better than these guys said it not the right material.Poor economic policy. Please Hon Chikwanda, stand up,resign with dignity be counted like Mighty GBM. The Tatanic is sunk.

  14. All companies employ people with experience to work in their companies. Who wants a president without experience. Magande was in government before, what did he leave to show the nation. Despite the favourable copper prices we never saw many new roads, schools and clinics being built like we see now.
Only dull and frustrated people can think all Zambia’s problems can be solved in 3 years. Is it not under Magande’s Finance period that farmers received inputs late, bought maize got soaked and rotten, fertiliser meant for poor farmers was stole.
He talks without offering solutions. He surely have none just like Ha Ha Ha who fails to distinguish the work of Civil Servants, PSs, Ministers and the President.

  15. If there is anyone who knows any just cause why PF should not resign, let them raise their right hands, otherwise, hereafter forever hold their peace. What’s up with this Ukwa family tree? Can they get us out of this economic turbulence? With it’s anointing of members of the Ukwa family tree, PF wrecking the country and destroying our economy. Certainly not because they want to, but simply because they are ignorant of what to do.

Their ideas seem to have evaporated within 90 days of taking office. Since then, the country has been on auto-pilot. Outside of the family tree, there are many qualified economists and among the best of Africa’s brains, who can do a far much better job. Now even resource strapped Malawi is beating Zambia in human development and economic growth

  16. the reason you did not c so many roads-the only visible achievement for HE MCS (CNP) economically useless as some may be, is because Levy & Magande dedicated all their might and resources to ensure;
    1-cancellation of national debt
    2-establishment of food security
3-growth of economy to middle income status…….
but MCS is swelling the debt, undoing the economic growth and turning a blind rye to matters of food security.
and who is benefiting from the. money’s previously channelled to subsidy? is it really the poor????

  17. @Mushota, can i make a baby with you, a highly educated baby like you?
I did not know you have been on LT since 2007(!!??!!)

  18. Is it not Magande who gave concessions to Nchito?
Is it not Magande who worked tirelessly to frustrate RB?
Is it not Magande who was lobbying for Finance Ministerial position under PF government?
Is it not Magande who is the preferred candidate for Presidency of Zambia under A Team within PF?

  19. Mr. Magande surely What do you expect from fools? Thats why they requested you to be their Bank Governor but you refused. This time dont refuse to replace Hon. Chikwanda

  20. if MMD had capitalised NCZ from 2000 we would not be having a problem of late fertilizer distribution.

What we should now is to ensure that tenders for fertiliser for 2015 farming season be awarded by April 2014, fully shipped by September 2014 and moved to provincial warehousing by January 2015.

Distribution to district and all satellite depots should be completed by April 2015 a record 7 months before planting starts…..!!

  21. DONT THINK THE PF GOVT HAS ADVISERS. IF IT HAS THEN THEY ARE WRONG MISLEADING THE PRESIDENT OR DOES NOT LISTEN TO ADVISE. MAGANDE IS RIGHT AND TRUST PEOPLE WHO WORKED WITH MWANAWASA (MHSRP)
