KASAMA Central Member of Parliament Geoffrey Mwamba, popularly as GBM, has been expelled from the ruling Patriotic Front (PF).

The expulsion of the former Minister of Defence is, however, subject to ratification by the PF central committee chaired by party president Michael Sata.

The party’s top brass in Northern Province yesterday met in Kasama to make a ruling on recommendations made by the disciplinary committee appointed to study Mr Mwamba’s alleged misdeeds.

The executive refused to pardon Mr Mwamba and unanimously approved the recommendation to expel him from the party.

The entire provincial executive which voted in favour of the expulsion said Mr Mwamba had shown an excessive amount stubbornness when he failed to appear before the disciplinary committee on Saturday.

Acting provincial vice-chairperson Peter Mwansa told journalists after the meeting that a copy of the minutes of the meeting had been forwarded to PF secretary general Wynter Kabimba.

PF deputy secretary general Bridget Atanga said she had not received the minutes as the issue was above her.
She referred all queries to Mr Kabimba whose mobile phone was unreachable by Press time.

The party indicted Mr Mwamba for allegedly de-campaigning fellow party officials, and for displaying disloyalty to the party and its president.

He was also accused of being insubordinate to senior party officials and had reportedly demeaned the local executive committee members.

Mr Mwamba was also charged with sponsoring parallel structures instead of working with elected party officials.
When contacted on his mobile phone, Mr Mwamba said he had no comment on the matter.

Northern Province PF secretary Everest Chela said the executive found it difficult to forgive Mr Mwamba as he was a ‘stubborn individual’ as evidenced by his refusal to appear before the disciplinary committee.

“Mr Mwamba also refused to adhere to party directives as outlined in his letter of suspension which barred him from participating in party activities.

“He has no respect for party officials and he has been reportedly been fraternising with members of the opposition,” Mr Chela said.

The Kasama Central MP, who had refused to resign, had been challenging the PF’s top leadership, including Vice-President Guy Scott, to expel him from the party so that he could demonstrate his popularity in a by-election.

A small group of his supporters was spotted standing across the street from the party offices.

    • Just shows how ungrateful Sata is, but there a lot of people and entities that ensured Rupiah conceded defeat and that voter results were protected are not happy with this untrustworth fellow.

      All that Machinery has moved from the PF.

      Only useless MPs that have failed to win an Election despite having stood 4 times like Kabimba will remain in the PF by 2016.

    • Look at your negative reviews, they outweigh the positive. Learn or remain “unreasonable” and “useless” said your Pathetic First (PF) members, Kambwili and San, respectively.

    • If most of your MPs are useless and if UPND MPs are regarded highly by one of your supermen Mangani who are you to declare UPND members as semi illiterates? Yes they may be semi illiterates but yours are illiterates. This is confirmed by your own President who declared them useless. No wonder he poaches MPs from MMD and UPND to run his Government because his are useless.

    • It is wise for a leader to seek and poach the opposition in order or him to govern propery.Mr Sata our great leader should do the same.People under the tree are the ones that feel how the magoes are dropping.In the same vein mps from the opposition know exactly what mistakes the government is making and once poached they will advise accordingly

IT WAS EITHER WYNTER OR GBM TO CATCH THE EXIT, BUT MORE LIKELY GBM. I REMEMBER LESS THAN TWO YEARS AGO I WAS ONCE DISCUSSING WITH MY FRIEND AND I TOLD HIM THAT ONE OF THE TWO WILL DEFINITELY GO.     • The is no doubt that the UPND MPs are intellectually superior to those in PF. Just listen to parliament radio and hear the arguments presented.
      The PF is only saved by Guy Scott who speaks logically by default mother tongue.

    • My advice to GBM…..either stay out of politics are do not form/start a political party. Zambia has lots of them NAREP, ZADECO, ZDDM, People’s Party, one for danny pule, another for Mike Mulongoti, then there is one for Cosmo Mumba and yes FDD led by madam beautiful Edith Nawakwi and ahh….UPND and the Hour party, MMD. Sure one of these should suit your taste.

  4. The man was used alright. It was ‘bubble gum’ friendship! And nobody will believe this has no blessings from high up- coz it sure has!
    Sadly, politics is a game of numbers were level headed intellectuals have as much influence (votes ) as the common illiterate vendor on the street.
    What I mean is, the fate of GBM is in the balance. This may be the last we hear of him as an MP.

  5. No true democratic party can expel a member bcoz doing so is tantamount to expelling democracy itself.You can’t expel freedom of thought and choice as that is what democracy is all about.

    Truly,with this expulsion its proof Sata is PF and PF is Sata

      a) Nemo Index in causa sua (Bias) and
      b) Audi alterm partem (Hearing)
      But then, do we really expect rank and file of current political administration not to follow legal principles when the top brass (“A” Team) has been destroying judicial system of the Country?

If UNIP and MMD behaved like what PF has done and is doing to itself, they wouldn’t have been in power the long periods they both ruled. If PF pulls through and wins the next general election, many a Zambian will be convinced that HE MC Sata is a genius. So much in-fighting within the party that anyone wonders whether the remaining members will have trust in each other, I wonder if Mr Sata trusts his MPs! I thought by this time group formation of PF as a party will by now moved through conflict, storming, norming and now to performing stage, but looks like PF is actively at conflict and storming stages. When will the brotherhood and sisterhood be harmonously observed, when all members will trust each other?

What wrong or sin has GBM committed apart from a mere resignation from a cabinet position ? When a party has confused settings and tendies like the PF, can they really manage to run a country with such hipocricy ? Michael Sata is busy changing goal posts at State House, today he can talk of this, tomorrow that and continue to contradict himself.   12. Fighting on two fronts, one internally, the other with opposition. Man, thats very dynamic. Its not for faint hearted. Especially if you add on the war on nurses, traditional rulers, church, civil society, bye elections, etc, it must be a real war zone for Patriotic Front! But we need harmony for sure. What we are witnessing is too dynamic with so many issues too active at same time. But we surely need some factors to remain constant. Like chiefs we need this sector to be normalised, whilst we deal with other things. It is just too much dynamism intra-party, let alone inter-party. Our great man at plot one must be working really hard in this active atmosphere.

Don’t know where this government is going. Anyway, Chiluba told us that Sata can’t be a good president. Never seemed to respect any of the PF Party structures or Constitution. He just went about as though everybody in PF should bow down to him because in his mind, as you have aptly put it, he “sacrificed a lot” already. Well politics requires a bit of humility to succeed at it.

      In my opinion, GBM could have done well staying purely a businessman than join politics because he is NOT good at being a Politician. In Western Democracies, people give huge amounts of money to political parties becoz they believe in the CAUSE; and not becoz they have an eye at becoming ‘Small Gods’!

  19. The all PF fighting one man for stepping down from ministerial post. GBM was right to step down for a just cause. Many of PF members are just parrots. They can not do the right thing. This is what poverty can do. People used to praise KK that wa muyaya. They think president Sata cannot make mistakes. Mr. Chela thinks Chitimukulu is nothing. Mr, Chela is an embarrassment to the Bembas and to his family.

  25. SATA has not EXPELLED GBM but Sata is playing politics, the reason he will Chair the Exexcutive COMMITTEE. U ve not seen Sata really playing politics.

    Sata enjoys POLITIKING than DEVELOPMENT. He EATS politics, DRINKS politics, BREATHS politics the reason he has said most of his MPs r USELESS the reason being they DONT KNO HOW politiking.

  28. To GBM, Thank Elohim in everything you are going through. Sometimes storms in one’s life come in order to make us strong but in most cases, they are actually shorten our journeys. The fact that people are able to fight you, its an indication enough that you possess something the enemy is scared off. Who knows what Jehovah has prepared for you?   31. GBM is a dull politician with no strategy. No sane person goes into a fight with a sitting president especially when he runs businesses that depend on government contracts. This is the beginning of his downfall. We used to have the all powerful BY but no more. Opposition politics finished him lol.

    • People should be principled in life and do support everything that the president does or says. It would be good to be allowed to have a different view or opinion than always say yes bwana. GBM did not start any fight with the president, he simply excused himself from the president’s fight against the Bemba issue and he should have been respected. But as usual you are not supposed to differ with the president otherwise you face severe punishment! Ubututu mwebantu!   34. Apart from the Bemba Royal Family issue, What was done to GBM resonates to What was done to BY(rest In Peace). An all powerful rich businessman, supports a cause with hopes of getting favor in enhancing business aspirations. Gets appointed as Defence Minister, knowing too well that defence has the most lucrative demand for suppliers among GRZ ministries. Somewhere long the way, business man turned minister becomes greedy and puts himself in line of fire. We all nkow the end result.

The logic here is that PF was not supposed to win the elections.Had it lost,there was going to be bloodshed in the country.Now that God loves Zambia so much and that he wanted even a child to see that Sata could not make a good president like KK described him”he can make a good minister and not a President.”

  59. Ba LT you should be reporting objectively, get the facts first, the write and publish. The only organ that can expel GBM is the central committee. GMB has not been expelled from PF.
