Hakainde Hichilema addressing the media

Opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) President Hakainde Hichilema has challenged Republican Vice President Guy Scott to show proof to the Zambian people that PF government has created over 600, 000 jobs since assuming office in 2011.

Mr. Hichilema said that the figures Dr. Scott gave in Parliament this morning are not factual and lack credibility.

He said that the PF government is fond of giving wrong job figures when in the actual sense they are merely creating temporal jobs.

Mr. Hichilema has also attributed the continued depreciation of the Kwacha against other major foreign currencies to poor economic policies of the PF government.

Speaking during a media briefing in Lusaka today, Mr. Hichilema noted that this is the first time the Kwacha has reached such levels against the US dollar.

Mr. Hichilema explained that the value of the currency is a reflection of the performance of the economy, productivity, efficiency and credibility of the government leadership.

During the Vice President’s 30-minute question time in the House today, Dr. Scott said 600,000 jobs have so far been created by government in 2 years and five months since the PF came into power.

  1. I stand to be corrected, how many districts have been created so far and who is working there, unless the govt workers are doing double work stations . I feel the country has been opened up and new. Positions created unlike before. So banthu bapezako nchito. I’ve got proof of someone in my community. Permanent job

    • 600,000 jobs just through the creation of new districts? you are joking and how is government increasing the wage bill a good idea? I think a comparison between the revenue from P.A.Y.E in 2011 and 2013 should give us a clearer picture.

    • @Bongwe

Yes some some jobs have indeed been created by the PF but the number is not 600,000. What you have to remember is some of the proper jobs created in old districts are have been existing but only that the PF replaced the old workers with their cadres.

To be honest some of the districts are just sucking huge income from the government because they can not generate enough income to run government business and pay their workers promptly.

Districts are supposed to grow organically not being imposed by the the government in areas where there is very little capacity for them to be self reliant.

So HH is right in opposing the figures stated by Guy Scott. If he said couple of thousand jobs, yes we can all agree on such figures.

    • Even HH himself and his minions are now employed, they have found at least something to make noise about.

    • Typical of African opposition leaders they can`t just handle positive news from the ruling party. The moment maturity in politics arrives in Africa will be the time when real development will start.HH is a big disappointment.

    • just admit bafiikalaa that he is sinking points in your dull leader’s skulls and they are feeling the heat. Haleisa Haleisa 2016,mwanya

    • crazy Bantustan leader.

crazy is defined as doing the same thing and expecting different results.

HH has been doing the same things since 2006 and expecting his party to grow and propel him into state house…. duh!

    • Maybe he has got “a job” but is he really getting PAID? And when this PF government cannot borrow any more money, will he still have “a job”? And if he does get paid, will his monthly salary actually buy him a bag of mealiemeal? When the Kwacha is K6:00 to the dollar?

      Is that really “a job”?

    • Seriously UPND must consider Garry Nkombo as their leader. I am not UPND but I find Garry as a level headed guy, he looks at the bigger picture and genuinely wants the country to move forward.

he sounds like a natural leader who attracts attention, people listen when he talks and commands respect.

Maybe then UPND will cease to be a Bantustan, regional and tribal party and will assume a national character attracting members from other regions of the country

    • Gen districts are not created in the forest, they just further demarcate existing towns or change the status of the town and these places already public service employees. So they did not employee any new employees unless you are talking about creating a district administrators office.and that’s what you are calling creating employment .

    • I refuse to trust anyone at this stage!
We need to transfer power from the president to the people through parliament or risk getting disappointed all the time.
In 2011, people believed Sata will do this and that because Sata had managed to cheat them that he was man of action.
Through the provisions of a well-done constitution, we need to put a ceiling on what the acceptable public wage bill should be if we are to leave enough resources for development! Ideally it should never exceed 30% of revenue. The employment creation Dotti Scott and PF are boasting about is nothing but the ballooning public wage bill. If only these chaps had faithfully executed the original plan in their manifesto, they would not be in the confusion they are in today!

  2. New districts may have been created resulting in new jobs (few) but Government jobs are actually a drain on national coffers. What we need are private sector driven jobs. The taxes from private sector jobs can then be used to pay for essential government workers like doctors, teachers, police etc.

    • How many Saulosis do we have kanshi, we have one who blogs with a German flag, another with an EU flag, another with New Zealand/Australian flag. Iliko rather!!!

    • Saulosi moves from one country to another because of the nature of his studies but always look for his ALF avatar for the original.I mostly blog with the Germany and EU flags.

    • @the chosen one…You see here it is the same but with the EU flag.It is my avatar that differentiates me from the fake ones that have started appearing on this site the last one month.

    • It depends on what you want to me yourself believe. It doesn`t change anything in your life at the end of the day bro.Lol

    • @the chosen one…It depends on what you want to make yourself believe. It doesn`t change anything in your life at the end of the day bro.Lol

    • I do understand. I just thought it was some form of “identity theft”. You know when someone becomes a prominent blogger, you always see some unscrupulous, fake characters out there blogging under prominent bloggers’ names!!!

    • @chosen one…you are spot on my brother, they have being doing it to me.There is a guy with a EU flag who likes posting under my name and mostly his language is vulgar.I have actually officially complained to LT about it but they haven`t responded.Just today i have seen about two posts with the Saulosi name ,one with an American flag and another one with an EU flag.It is because of this reason why i even decided to create an avatar beside my name so that it can differentiate me from the fake ones.

    • ndobo was accussed and suppected o the same issue,,, even after it was established ndobo had nothing to do with ID thieft, an appology was never issued and ndobo is still waiting.

in the same vain, someone on today`s kabimba story has stole cindy`s ID just he did last time…
please people do to others as you want them to do same to you

  3. Total lies..if Zambia sugar has a total of 7000 people and the government has created 600,000 jobs. It means the government has created investments equivalent of 85 Zambia sugars from 2011???niggas get real…thats a blue lie…

  4. A lot of things have happened in Zambia as concerning job creation , not only districts but also a province how about those roads , and we hear that Zambia has exported more this year those are all jobs , how about those new mines how about the expansion of air ports in the country the new houses being built every day to mention a few

  5. WHAT NEW DISTRICTS GO TO CHIKANKATA U WILL FIND ALL VEHICLES & DRIVERS WERE TRANSFARED FROM NEIGHBOURING KAFUE & MBK EVEN THE CS & HIS GENERAL WORKER WAS ALREADY WORKING

    • Unemployment is all over the world, bane if developed nations are crying about unemployment. What about you in Zambia????? ala muli nkupilwa kumo…tondolo musuma stop politics of blindness,,icasa kanua. Wanting to be seen talking but all rubbish, senseless.

  6. Ba LT,,,,,Why don’t you like the facts, you must not block our sensible contributions the fact still remains the same .If people in developed countries are crying about un employment who are you not to be affected?

    • Some developed countries are complaining of unemployment of 10 to 25 percent, for us that is the percentage employed. Unemployment will always be there but the percentage is quite high here, 75% of the youth are unemployed.

  7. What does the constitution of the UPND say about the tenure of office of their president. Is it 8 years? This HH guy has been at the helm of the party the past 8 years and no election/convention has been held and they claim to be the most democratic party. The guy just wants to become president at all costs so he has silenced his colleagues not to challenge him. I have a feeling this guy will be a worse dictator than Sata. HH and Sata have the same angry face. At least Sata even makes jokes sometimes

  8. Last festive season when l went for my usual Xmas break, l saw construction everywhere and unless hh is telling us it is robots working on those roads n buildings. Hh needs to do soul searching and reflect on who he really is. Is he into it to reap off Zambians again or he wants yo t serve which is unlikely?

    • Are construction workers full time employees or are they casual workers? Lets be serious cadre or not jobs were created but not 600 000 of them. lets call a spade a spade far less than 600 000 jobs were created full stop.

  9. Judge if those drivers were transferred then they must have been replaced with new ones , those are indeed new jobs mind you all districts have such even office orderlies new messengers

  10. none of you carders have addressed the real question HH asked, instead typical of PF mentality of character assassination, and lack of analytical minds, right now those
Guy Scott number are just figures with nothing to back them up,and the don’t convey
what’s on the ground, construction jobs are not real jobs as soon as the project ends you’re fired.

    • @china:

Quote: “…construction jobs are not real jobs as soon as the project ends you’re fired”

Are you really being serious with this statement or you are just joking? Construction and the jobs that comes with it is big business and a vital Industry on its own, bro! I see that you blogging under an American flag, so I assume you live in America. Now tell me why every politician running for president (including Obama) in America always talks about reviving/funding the Construction Industry in order to create jobs and improve the economy if construction was such a non-entity?

This is the kind of arguments that baffles a lot of us; especially when such arguments come from a group of individuals who think they are the most educated and intelligent in Zambia. Amazing really!

  11. It is only an individual with dysfunctional brain who can applaud HH for his strange utterances. This chap must be addressing his cattle not Zambians. A normal Zambian has seen and appreciated the fact that since the PF assumed power in 2011 there has been accelerated job creation. In case HH and his followers are that dull let them get the figures of jobs created through these rudimentary statistics.
At least 20 district have been created and each district has employed at least 20 people resulting in 400 jobs. Road construction being seen and felt allover Zambia alone has absorbed well over 600 job seekers. This is without illustrating jobs created in other sectors like mining, tourism, agriculture, health, education, commerce, etc.

  12. HH and minions are hell bent like umubanga tree. When there is infrastructure and creation of districts there are jobs creation . The might USA had faced the recession job creation became the core theme as by doing so you are not only creating jobs but making people paying taxes . Zambia has politicians who have shown behaviours more than bush products as a Nigerian will call such individuals. people contributing on the blogg they have never been to Zambia for the past two years to see what is happening. If today elections were held it clear PF will win big time and it’s time for HH to start going to all corners of the country, two or three provinces will never take him to plot 1.
HH lacks strategies to energise the masses, when there is strike he goes and support striking nurses.

  13. Comrades let’s be objective here and not take sides blindly. I conquer with a coleague who made an illustration of 7000 number of zam sugar employees to the dreamt figure of by our VP. 600,000 is not a small number considering that Zambia stood on 500,000 employees contributing to paye for a long time. HH has point,I also totally
disagree with Scot. Things aught to show, right now the govrnt is strugling to source for money,if Scots assertions were true we could have had a lot from paye. New districs and road works can’t suffice, maybe could just account for upto 20000. Besides, a lot of people have lost jobs. So what is the net figure?

    • If my memory serves me well the thresh-hood for those qualified to pay PAYE has been increased to something more than K2000. Meaning that there are more people who could now be paying Paye as it been the same as in the past. But those numbers reflect only the percentage that now pays the Paye. Of course Scot might have inflated the figures but there is clearly something happening that every one can see. If HH should criticize PF he aught to on areas that PF is failing. Such as the information bill, constitution, late distribution of agricultural inputs, the instability of Kwacha, and service delivery where garbage collection and maintenance of the existing infrastructure such as roads in concerned. there we shall have credible opposition. there are some policies that are bizarre too.

  14. HH promised financial aid if nurses are sacked. A man lacks integrity and decense. He lies before 6am and will be looking for lies before 6pm. A mature and seasoned politician will encourage striking workforce to go back to work and promise them to speak on their behalf rather lying and disappear like vapour in the morning. HH is a spoiled Prut. No man can find happiness in politics of anarchy, lawlessness, provocation and propaganda smear of others political opponents. HH is taking the peace and harmony for granted. Destroy peace is very easy building it will not be easy. Minds are like parachutes they will only function when they are open.
    ,

  15. HH thinks Zambians are dull and can be convinced by his cheap politics. The weakening of the local currency has covered most countries including RSA where the Rand is almost R11 to 1 USD!HH should not think that we are dull all because he is running a farm!Running a country is far more complex than running a farm.Jobs have also been created especially in the construction industry. These jobs are giving Zambians skills that the country needs for future development so the issue of the jobs being temporaly does not matter somuch as long as people have something to do other than just drinking beer day in day out.How many jobs has HH created on his farm compared to the jobs that people lost when he privatised Luanshya mine?

  16. CHINA! Your thinking is wrapped!Construction jobs are very real jobs and they provide skills that are needed for development. There is no country that has developed without construction.in fact development involves construction. You must also realise that construction involve projects and projects have delivery periods after which the product is delivered!!If construction jobs are not real jobs, what are real jobs?Is bootlicking HH a real job?Grow up man & stop thinking like a kid!!

    • Nawishiba nga ta wishibe efyo wulelanda apo ala bekala fye. Tondolo musuma. Have you bothered to ask why some bloggers are saying construction jobs are temporary jobs? You have just observed them from afar and you do no know their “lived realities”.

  17. From the time PF came into power, I have never read a any sensible statement attributed to a PF leader.

How is it possible that a political party cannot have even a single smart person in their ranks? Incredible!!!!!!!!

  18. Blago it’s you who is not smart in accusing those guys. Zambians too are good at criticising . It’s like HH no grain of advise or plan B to help masses . Everything is no . It’s always hurry hyena who suffers twice. Let 2016 comes the hurry hyena will bruised to its tail and those behind keyboards will run.

  19. PF CADRES ARE VERY STRANGE. OPENING THEIR MOUTHS WITHOUT REASONING.BLIND FOLLOWING. BE ANALYTICAL SOMETIMES. HOW MUCH IS A BAG OF MEALIE MEAL TODAY? HOW MUCH WAS A BAG OF MEALIE MEAL IN 2011? INDEED YOUR UKWA HAS WORKED HARD TO ENSURE ZAMBIANS ARE CHOKED WITH HUNGER.

  20. HH WILL CHALLENGE EVERYONE & EVERYTHING GOOD ABOUT HIS OPPONENTS.

HE MAY EVEN CHALLENGE FACE BOOK STATISTICS WHICH SHOW THAT THE PRESIDENT’S HAS RECORDED 94,000 VISITORS IN LESS THAN A YEAR COMPARED TO HIS 44,000 IN 4 YEARS!

WHY CANT HE VERIFY WITH ZRA OR THE STATISTICS OFFICE OR OTHER GOVERNMENT AGENCIES BECAUSE HE KNOWS THAT THE PRESIDENT OR HIS VEEP WILL NOT RESPOND TO HIS RANTINGS? SIMPLE, CHAPWA!

  21. My fellow Zambians! HH and upnd will refuse that PF has cretaed even a single job. That’s his and their nature as a party.
Zambians, beware of Politics of deceit with all the intentions of going to plot 1! No one should campaign on platform of providing employment to all unemployed Zambians. Such a leader is a liar! Employment crisis is world over problem! Undisputed employment is on newly created distriicts which has come with all positions and filled by new people. Upnd will not accept anything positive. We know that PF hasn’t done well in every angle but let’s appreciate the litle scores they have scored!

  22. HH: you have become irrelevant. Every body else is witness to massive job creation undertaken by PF government in road construction, new districts, new province, mining, etc.

  23. IF FACEBOOK POPULARITY IS ANYTHING TO GO BY, SURELY & TRULY PRESIDENT SATA IS FAR AHEAD OF HH BY ALMOST 3 TO 1.

UNLESS HH FORTUNES COULD TAKE A DRAMATIC TURN BETWEEN NOW & 2016, THERE IS JUST NO WAY HH WILL CATCH UP WITH SATA EVEN IF THE CONSTITUTION WAS TO CHANGE TO 0+1%.

IF I WERE HIM, I COULD CONCENTRATE ON TELLING PEOPLE ABOUT WHAT (IN TERMS OF DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS) I WILL DO DIFFERENTLY FROM THE CURRENT GOVERNMENT’S AGENDA!

FOR EXAMPLE, WILL HH DE-GAZETTE NEW DISTRICTS & PROVINCES? WILL CHOMA CEASE TO BE THE PROVINCIAL HQ FOR SOUTHERN PROVINCE? ETC

  24. 600000 is a huge number. Let the VP give us a breakdown sector by sector for us to appreciate whether this is worth our praises or not. I just wonder how some people find it so easy to just support anything without any basis apart from the fact that it was said by a particular individual.

  25. There is a serious problem in my country of birth – Zambia. I’m not certain on what exactly is going on, but I’m sure of what the future holds. This animal they call – Frederick Mumembe has a brought a lot of misery than what the eye can see, his days are numbered. Ba ZWD, you are doing a wonderful job, you what, Frederick Mumembe thought he could get away with the law and fool Zambians all the way. This is the right time for him to count his blessings; all Zambians regardless are equal. We will ensure that we fight him right from inside here at the Post Newspapers to the helm of every inch of blood. He has terrorized masses for so long; we have all the records to torment him, up and down. We will not rest until this little dark-aligned creature falls to the grave. We will nail, hammer…

  26. If my memory serves me well the thresh-hood for those qualified to pay PAYE has been increased to something more than K2000.

  27. Un/Employment change reports should be issued monthly or yearly at least, what the hell do they have a department of labour for? What do they do in those offices if they can’t perform simple tasks like collecting and tabulating the national employment figures. I mean don’t they need these numbers themselves to plan? For some of us our livelihoods depend on statistics like unemployment rates, employment change and other leading economic indicators to make decisions where to invest our money. Are these people really serious about governing the nation? No wonder all the data about Zambia is either outdated or is based on estimates and speculation. No one is interested in doing an actual job of work.

  28. HH u ll Never Never lead ZAMBIA . U are full of Tribalism if only Tonga and Lozi are more than these other Tribs in zambia Then u ll be President.

  29. I refer to be corrected to hear from you blockers here that HH lack strategies to grow his party…!! This is qiet a sad reading to you some blockers here, some of us who wre following political landscape in zambia, I would not be shy to say HH stand a chance now to became zambian president…!! The question which you should have asked, not forgeting the level of education to some blockers here including there headman Fred Mmembe, it touches many faces when ever they hear HH speaks or read about him.HH tried very hard to put UPND where it is today not forgeting who he became president of the party…!! If sakwiba was a president, UPND would have finished by now….!!! PF fear HH more than nevrs MUMBA OR COSMOS OR MIYANDA or the coalision party that is still on papers..!!

  30. Luapula premier: I would like to remind you that the face book figure you got from quaremaster Fred Mmmmembe, has gotten into ur heard..!! Fred knows very well that there are people like Luapula premier who can easily cheated…! It is not about HH’s popualarity, it is about SATA, with rotten teeth failing many zambians, if HH is not popular why do you talk about him,,, To fred Mmmembe HH and his party are not winning any election, can that be correct from your eyes Luapuala, it is so sad that some blockers have sad education background that can be cheated by figures posted by enemies,,! Comming to facebook figures which fred MMmembe is proving that HH is not popular,,, HH has two face book accounts and normaly removes people trying to use insults, HH has 167 000 blockers…..!

  31. I note a number of HH haters for its own sake. They never address what he raises as an issue. They straight away attack him on personal baseless grounds. He has challenged the figure of 600,000 jobs created. If you have proof that this number of jobs has indeed been created, give us a breakdown and you will be vindicated. Its really irritable when people purport to be intelligent bloggers and yet have really nothing of substance to contribute apart from making uninformed assertions about personalities.

  32. Ka HH ( Humsula Huwangombe ) just wait for 2016 when Sata will circumcise u so that u can stop masturbating. Denkede ilenunkila pa matako yobe u bastard!

    • @Nazirite, but you have told this boy and his minions, very f.o.olish ba.s.tards. HH has never told us what he would do IF and I mean a BIG IF EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
