George Mpombo says no amount of political dribbling will stop the Zambian people from having a people driven constitution.

Mr. Mpombo who heads the People’s Democratic Party said Zambians are resolved to have a constitution based on true democratic ideals and meets their aspirations.

He said utterances such those made by Patriotic Front Lusaka District Chairman Mulenga Sata implying that the constitution is not the priority of the PF should be dismissed with the contempt they deserve.

Mr Mpombo stated that Zambians have made their position clear that they want a new constitution enacted anchored on the rule of Law.

And UPND deputy Spokesperson has said the PF Lusaka district Chairman should not run away from the fact that the constitution is priority in the country and remains Government’s first priority.

Mr Lifwekelo says if the Constitution was not priority it would have not been an issue in the 2011 general election when the PF promised the Zambian people that they would deliver it in 90 days of coming into power.

  1. No one disputes that a new people driven constitution is a priority but its certainly not a number one priority for sure.

There are more pressing national issues that require immediate attention

A new constitution will be in place before 2016 elections.

And this is what has been Sata’s position

    • correct Mr President!! it a pity i wouldnt have voted for you since i`ve returned the Zambian documents,,,, and my royal baroste passport is in, but dont worry i cheer for you from the plains

    • With so much tax payers money spent, it is now not a question of before” 2016″. The constitution must be concluded by 2014 period. If we allow the constitution to slip into 2015 than Michael will have successfully dribbled the whole nation. After promising our brothers in western province that he would honour the BA 1964 you can only believe him when the constitution is put on the table. The current thuggish behaviour towards the most important nation document is unacceptable.

    • It is number one priority! Make no mistake, if this government is incapable of finalizing this very, VERY soon, the consequences will be serious.

Satas timeframe was 90 days. It is now 900 days.

No more stupid statements about an “animal driven Constitution” — deliver what was promised NOW.

Otherwise we will take this dog with rabies outside and use the “animal” constitution to put him down!

    • Wrong, it is number one. Once you sort out the constitution, all evils perpetrated by the government like corruption, tribalism, nepotism, unnecessary by-elections, lack of leadership, arrogance, etc will be a thing of the past. This will set a stage where there will be food on the table sustainably, sustainable development and not selective development to make the masses hero worship the president. It will be serious business for a government in power and no jokes otherwise they are booted out

  2. When Mr. Sata promised the Zambian people that he would deliver a people-driven constitution in 90 days, he meant just that. He did not mean to lie about it. Further, this was an enshrined objective within PF, not just mere political parroting by Mr. Sata.
Little did PF know, however, that by so promising, they were in fact signing a blank check, as the contents of the new constitution were yet not known. The catch 22 has been the 50% + 1 caption now enshrined within the new constitution. There’s no question that the Zambian people have already fallen in love with this section of the constitution. As a matter of fact, it is the most well known section of the constitution right now. The PF dilemma – how to hide or delete this caption, is proving scarcely assailable.

  3. People-driven? What about “bushbuck-driven”? Take your beard back to Kuito and be quiet, munasiya nchito kudala bambo

  4. The new constitution we want is one that transfers powers from the President to the people through Parliament representation. This should guarantee people’s basic freedoms of speech, freedom of Assembly and full rights!
No police officer should brutalize anyone and go unpunished.
No politician should be allowed to abuse their positions of authority to their advantage without being punished and when a public officer is implicated in misconduct and a tribunal is set, the proceedings should not go ahead without evidence that such a person has stepped down and that position remains vacant until their hearing is concluded at which time they are reinstated or fired depending on case outcome!
In short, all must be subject to the rule of law!

  5. Chachine ba Mwisho ba Mpombo, political dribbling and political shoe box will not work. Ba mwisho, when did you get your doctorate and from where ba mwisho?
