National Restoration Party (NAREP) President Elias Chipimo Junior has charged that Inspector General of Police Stella Libongani will be directly held accountable by the people of Zambia for failing to execute her duties professionally.
Mr. Chipimo told QFM News in an interview that the continued misuse of the Police to undermine the opposition political parties and Civil Society Organizations in the country is unacceptable.
He said Ms Libongani ought to know that the PF will not be in office forever and that time is fast approaching for her to be held accountable for the abuse of people’s democracy.
Mr. Chipimo added that the Police Chief should concentrate on executing her duties in accordance with the law and not to please the appointing authority.
And Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) Spokesperson, Antonio Mwanza said it is disappointing the Inspector General of Police is contributing in trying to weaken the opposition in the country.
On Monday, police in riot gear fired teargas canisters to disperse a crowd of UPND supporters who were waiting to be addressed by Mr Hichilema in Mambwe District.On Sunday police stopped a public meeting which was being addressed by Mr Hichilema in the same district.

Why not hold her accountable now? Such statements sound sensible but they don’t really mean much because the police will always work things out with the government of the day.
It is only natural that the opposition be plugged in favour of the ruling party. The same police force would be holding Chipimo’s back if NAREP was in power.

It is just the reality of politics in Africa – all African politicians, except Mandela of course, promise heaven on earth while in opposition. When they grab power they even forget where they come from and which friends they used to call and drink with.
We will need a departure from this sort of political behavior. The likes of Chipimo, HH, Frank etc are not the type. You can just hear it when they speak – they say things just to make us like them. Once in power they have their own interests to look after.

Personally, I feel sorry for our IG, I do understand the pressure she is undergoing to do the wrong things but my advice to her has always been that she should just step aside to save both her self, her family and her future.
She may today feel that by stepping aside and letting go her position, she would be loosing an oppotunity but belive you me if she did step aside siting inteference, she would have invested for life. This advice is free, in other countries I would have asked for some form of payment from her so take it for gain or leave it at your own peril.
