MMD president Nevers Mumba says he cannot take the advice of MMD founding members Katele Kalumba, Mbita Chitala and others because they allegedly do not mean well for the party.
Recently, Dr Kalumba and Dr Chitala observed that Dr Mumba has contributed to the crumbling of the party and that the only way to save it from total collapse is to have a crop of new leaders.
Dr Mumba said in an interview yesterday that the MMD founding members who mean well are those who would approach him to address pressing issues instead of issuing statements through the media.
“Anybody in the country can make comments that they want. Those who mean well, they don’t go to the press. They come to the president at the office and make submissions,” he said.
“So those who go to the press to praise us for some of the successes we have enjoyed, we welcome that. But if you go to the press to speak against your own party, which you said you are a founding member of without making other efforts, then we have a lot of questions.”
Dr Mumba said some of the people who are saying that they are founding members are no longer MMD members.
The former television evangelist said founding members who are interested in strengthening the MMD would not go to the press but use the right channels.
Dr Mumba said people who go to the media to speak against MMD leaders could have a hidden agenda.
On allegations that MMD has been hijacked by outsiders, Dr Mumba said all Zambians are insiders and that there are no outsiders.
He said the talk of MMD being hijacked by outsiders does not exist in the former ruling party.
“When you come to join us today, you cease to be an outsider, you are an insider from today onwards,” he said.
Dr Mumba said any person who joins the MMD is considered a bona fide member and expected to contribute equally to the wellbeing of the party.
And Dr Mumba has said that his preoccupation is to deal with the issues affecting the Zambian people despite facing a rebellion in his party.
Dr. Mumba told Qfm News in an interview today that his focus is to provide leadership to the MMD and prepare the party for the 2016 general election.
Dr. Mumba maintained that the MMD is still a robust and forward moving political party.
He added that it is not the first time the former ruling party has found itself in a situation where party members are holding different views on an issue.
Dr Mumba stated that it was for this reason that he thinks any problem that arises in the party can only be resolved within the party.
That’s a perfect response from Nevers

This really looked like a sticky situation but its lost all momentum after the revelation that PF’s fingerprints were all over it. As for Katele Kalumba and Chitala – you can’t divorce a woman and then start giving advise to the new husband on how to treat her…go figure!
I totally agree with President Mumba that the five persons should indeed step aside and may be join PF or better still FORM THEIR OWN PARTY.Nevers Mumba’s position as President of the Party will be up for grabs in April 2016 when a Convention is due.What then is the hurry?
Dr.Kaingu is in-charge of political mobilization while Chituwo is responsible for administration.On the other hand,Dora Siliya as spokesperson for the party is responsible for projecting a favorable and attractive image of MMD.What have all these done in their respective portfolios to advance the popularity of the Party?How does Nevers Mumba become a lone failure without looking at the sincerity of his support colleagues?

Imagine a group of senior managers who have been in the company and have risen through the ranks over the past 20 years saying of the recently appointment Managing Director or General Manager, hired by the Board of Directors from a competing company, that he is an ‘outsider’.
When the GM hears this, she does not waste any air or time, she promptly fires them by terminating their contract of employment. Nevers, do like wise.

True. Who are those people really individually? Simply traitors. Whoever holds talks with Fred Mmembe or Wynter Kabimba in secrecy clearly has no good intentions for the country, let alone MMD. Fred Mmembe and Wynter Kabimba only stand for misgovernance, corruption, arrogance, thuggery, adultery, perverison, suppression of the masses, brutality and all the evil that goes with power and money. Nevers should hold his head high and eject those thugs even if it means physically ejecting them from MMD. Once those traitors are gone including the Kachingwes and Namugalas (to PF if they want) , MMD will have a chance to reclaim some support and can work hand in hand with UPND to make a solid force to form governemnt come 2016. You can co-habit with politics and expect godly response. Where you are will determine your position. My village headman Katele, I think you are offside. While your views are respected but from my observation you contributed to weakening /fall of MMD when you were national secretary during Mwanawasa’s time from 2005 to 2011. During this period you worked hard to weaken it because you thought Levy was persecuting you. In 2011, you worked secretly with PF in luapula and ensured that a weak MMD candidate (Cosmas Mpapi) stood and lost. All this in hope that sata will influence your case in the high court which you lost on appeal. From the time PF came into power you have been singing praises of Sata that he is visionary, my foot! Some of us know that you have been receiving favours from PF. E.g when the queen mother of current snr chief Puta was very sick, Sata provided a chopper to UTH.

This is 2014 and national elections will be in 2016. Is it not time political parties in Zambia started positioning themselves for 2016? It is normal for people to jostle for positions now in preparation for 2016. Halting the debate in MMD about where the party is going now will only hurt MMD. It has been said MMD is mother of democracy, let the party rise up to its motto otherwise it will be interpreted as just another hot air party. Even in the U.S two years or a year before a big election, you have presidential aspirants seizing each other through all sorts of avenues including presidential debates even within parties.
