Reject people promoting the legalising of Marijuana – Priest

ZAMBIANS should reject people who champion the legalising of marijuana because such calls are against Christian principles of a Christian nation, Livingstone based Anglican Priest Emmanuel Chikoya has said.

Father Chikola said not everything that came from Western countries was good for humanity and hence calls for legalising marijuana should be dismissed with the contempt that it deserved.

He said in an interview yesterday that trading in marijuana would harm the morals of many people especially children.

Father Chikoya cited the recent sex party on the Copperbelt where pupils indulged in immoral activities after they took drugs.

“From the Christian point of view, it is not just about making profit and we don’t encourage the use of drugs.

“As a country, we should have sustainable business which promotes the dignity and well being of human beings because we were created in the image of God,” he said.

Father Chikoya said having a culture of trading in drugs in Zambia where for local or export market could bring about anarchy.

“When people are under the influence of drugs, they start behaving like animals like what happened on the Copperbelt.

“Let us analyse everything on moral, spiritual and wellbeing of human beings instead of just legalising anything that happens elsewhere,” he said.

Last Saturday, Green Party president Peter Sinkamba said his Government would also legalise the production of marijuana in the country because it would help to enhance revenue once exported.

Mr Sinkamba said the production of Marijuana would be controlled and would also be strictly for the export market.

“We have noticed that a lot of youths have been jailed because of engaging in either production or selling of marijuana.

As Green Party, we are going to legalise the production of marijuana because that is going to help the nation create more revenue when it is exported,” Mr Sinkamba said.

    • Ba Katolika abengi sana balapepa ibange. This priest knows it.

The performance of our national soccer team is based on this stuff.

Our boxers have been taking this for a long time

Our musicians cannot do without it.

Some past presidents smoked it in order to govern.

This thing must therefore be wonderful …….let the whole nation start taking it.

    • Try some! Your command of the English language will improve exponentially and you could even start speaking Patwa.

    • This guy, and he wants to aspire for presidency?
” It is better to keep quiet and let people think that you are a fool than open your mouth and remove all doubt”!

  1. This is very foolish and shallow coming from a man who ought to know better. When you are told something is wrong for a long time you eventually start believing even the lies. Marijuana has been part of African culture from time immemorial. It was the white devils that came here with their “biblical” principles that forced us to abandon it and think it was evil. Everything African to the white devils was evil. Marijuana is not only a drug for recreation silly priest. It is also a cancer suppressant. It is also an immune booster… People need to get educated because marijuana is a more mild drug than alcohol. More people die every year consuming alcohol whereas weed seldom yields any deaths. LEGALIZE MARIJUANA!!! Don’t be foolish and shallow minded.

  2. Imwe ba priest ninshi iyi mwayamba nomba? Stop this nonsense. There is nothing wrong with the herb.It is not a western concept because if anything our ancestors have been using the herb for medical and recreations purposes for generations. There are actually very few Marijuana related deaths that have been documented compared to alcohol. This is our God given plant because if you read genesis 1:29 it clearly says “And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.” Please stop talking about our meat.

  3. Yo rudeboy preacherman, dama smoke weed for inspiration man! Whatta gwa’an brethren? Leave da. weed alone!

  4. even Mushota who does not make sense when it comes to Sata and PF which is building roads and universities in her village does not see sense in what peter is advocating. For those who don’t know the main agenda of the Green party world wide is introduction of homosexuality. ask the Australians and they will tell you.

  5. Good topic Fr. Chikoya, we need people like yu to bring out other issues affecting our country instead of always talking about the Constitution. What are the ads and disads of legalising marijuana in Zambia. I’m enjoying yo comments people!

  6. He would be surprised if I told him the cure for cancer is in this plant’s oil and is being suppressed by the Pharmaceutical companies to stop them killing off their $160 billion gravy train.

  7. Do not quote him out of context,he did not say he will legalise smoking,he said he is going to legalise cultivation in protected farms for export.

    • Legalize marijuana cultivation. Those of you who don’t want to understand what was being addressed should just shut up. And why is it everyone’s problem if I want to smoke? These same priests are the biggest hypocrites because hey are drunks. Weed never hurt anybody. It only hurts closed mind people who think white people know better.

  8. If this priest has nothing to say why doesn’t he wait for Easter weekend may be then he will be preaching about more serious stuff. You don’t just wake up from sleep and start talking gibberish even before you brush your teeth. It is people like these who are embarrassing our country Zambia.

  9. whats the fuss about the weed. When the western world is beginning to realise the true benefits of this wonderful plant this man decides to take backwards. Abash him!!and legalise it

  10. bakatolika, you must be the last people to talk because morals in your church are very corrupt to the bones, child molestation even at Vatican is rampant, termination of pregnancies is the order of the day by so called sisters!Marijuana is ok for medical purposes.

  11. Grow hemp instead. This pastor must have seen the article previouly about exporting cannabis and is being reactive. When done LT obviously quite the following.

  12. TO ME THIS “PRESIDENT” DID NOT KNOW WHAT HE WAS TALKING ABOUT AND ITS IMPLICATIONS! IT WAS ALSO FULL OF CONTRADICTIONS. HOW DO YOU LEGALISE CULTIVATION OF A DRUG IN A COUNTRY WHILE AT THE SAME TIME YOU SAY ONLY IN RESTRICTED AREAS AND UNDER HEAVY SECURITY? THIS ENTAILS SOME SELECTION OF AREAS AND FARMERS TO CULTIVATE THE DRUG BUT WHY ONLY A FEW IF YOU WANT EVERYONE TO BENEFIT FROM ITS CULTIVATION (GDP)? COME ON MR. “PRESIDENT” THINK TWICE PLEASE UNLESS IF YOU SMOKE THE DRUG YOURSELF THEN I CAN UNDERSTAND BUT IF YOU DO NOT THEN YOU MUST BE ARRESTED IMMEDIATELY BECAUSE WHAT YOU ARE ADVOCATING FOR IS LIKE ADVOCATING FOR COMMITTING SUICIDE WHICH IS A PUNISHABLE CRIME IN THIS COUNTRY. REVISIT YOUR REASONING HERE PLEASE. THANK YOU

  13. Everything that is not of African origin or not invented here, carries with it funny name that tries to imitate the language of the inventor.e.g.motor car-motokala,However,things which have always been a part of us are well defined with terms and words to suit e.g.Kuzuba ,ukupepa, kufweba, kubema e.t.c.Now tobacco was introduced by the colonialists. Before then people were already smoking, hence the afore mentioned words. So,what were they smoking prior the introduction of tobacco? Why is marijuanna in every local language ?with a specified name? Why are most countries in the world legalising it?To everything including food, there is use and abuse. If we could get back to the ancient wisdom of our forefathers(robbed of us by being blinded by foreign religions)we would know the use of many a herb.

  14. The legalization of cannibis/marijuana stands to be beneficial to the country. In the united states alone marijuana is a billion dollar industry. Imagine what 10% of that could do for the poor farmers of zambia. Marijuana can also be used to prevent some forms of cancer and also to relieve other medical symptoms. It’s also been shown to be a more effective painkiller than some known pharmaceutical medicines.
On the other hand we have alcohol which is legal, and it’s well known that consumed alcohol has no medical benifits (yes a glass of wine here and there is fine, everything in moderation.). Alcohol causes a lot of deaths yearly, drunk driving, alcohol poisoning from excessive intakes and violent tendencies. How many times do you hear about a drunk man or woman harming their spouse?

  15. the only problem is that these so called priests in my country are the ones whose voices are heard even when they are talking nonsense which they always try to justify using a very old small foreign book which prevent them from reading what modern biology and chemistry say about these things. This is what deflates me about the progress of my country where people pray for roads when there accidents instead of redesigning and constructing better to reduce loss of lives.

  16. I’m sorry to say this but this priest is very foolish,I think people need to be educated that Marijuana is not a drug.Marijuana is an Herb and Flower.legalize it
