Sons kill mother and seriously wound their father

Share

A Deputy Head teacher in Kitwe has been brutally murdered and her husband seriously wounded by two of their biological children in a bizarre incident.

The brutal murder is believed to have been sparked by the children’s desire to grab their parent’s wealth.
In what seemed to be a calculated execution, the two assailants fiercely descended on their parents with knives and iron bars, killing the mother instantly.

The father managed to flee after being stabbed in the neck with a knife. Police identified the mother as Ethel Gondwe, a deputy head teacher at Ishuko Primary School in Chimwemwe Township.

Her, husband, Emmanuel Katongo, also a teacher at Mopani Copper Mines’ Nkana Trust School was rushed to Wusakile Mine Hospital where he was admitted to the intensive care unit.Police spokesperson Charity Chanda and family members confirmed the incident, which happened in the early hours of Saturday in Mukuba-Natwange at house number MN 33.
Upon killing their mother, the assailants bundled the body in a car and drove to Chichele forest on the Kitwe-Ndola dual carriageway where they dumped it.

Ms Chanda said the two sons, Emmanuel Katongo Junior, 21, and his 18-year-old brother had since been apprehended and detained in connection with the killing of Ms Gondwe and also the unlawful wounding of Mr Katongo.
“I confirm that we have apprehended two boys who are currently in custody in connection with the death of the mother and unlawful wounding of their father,” Ms Chanda said.

When queried, the two said they dumped the body of their mother in the Chichele plantation on the Kitwe-Ndola dual carriageway. The body had since been retrieved from the plantation.

Phillip Tembo, uncle of the wounded man said in an interview that the two sons during interrogation by police yesterday confessed that they had planned to murder both of their parents so that they could have access to the benefits.
“It seems the mother had told the younger boy that she was about to retire and he in turn told his elder brother about that and it is from that they embarked on a mission to murder their parents,” he said.
A Times of Zambia reporter visited the residence and found blood stains in the living room up to the corridor and extending to the car park.
Two blood-stained knives were also found in the yard.
Police sources said on the material day, the two brothers upon returning from a drinking spree quarreled with their parents over the two vehicles they owned.
They said emanating from that, the sons picked up knives and stabbed their father in the neck.
They later picked an iron bar and followed their mother in the kitchen where they hit her on the head and she died.
“The father in the living room managed to get up and that is how he fled but meanwhile, the two sons went ahead and bundled the body of their mother in a vehicle and managed to drive away,” the sources said.
They said it was while they were returning that the two were intercepted at a police check-point near a Farm House on the Kitwe-Ndola dual carriageway by an officer who saw blood stains in the vehicle.
Meanwhile Silvia Mweetwa reports that a 45-year-old Kapiri-Mposhi man was in the early morning of Saturday beaten to death after he was allegedly found in bed with a married woman.
Central Province deputy Commissioner of police, Edwin Bwanga said the deceased, Misheck Mwansa was found in the act by the woman’s husband.
Mr Bwanga said the incident happened around 06:00 hours at Juda village in Chief Chipepo’s area and that a stick was reportedly used in the beating.
He said police had since picked up the woman’s husband identified as Rabison Sakala aged 34 to assist with investigations.

  1. This is too painful to comprehend! How can boys who once nursed at their mothers breast then turn around and kill her over a paltry retirement package. Oh my! The curse of poverty.

    • @ Bana Bwalya

Well said. But it is not poverty. This is a clear case of psychopathic greed. For these two boys, life ends here for them, that’s it – for the rest of their lives, unfortunately…and they are only 21 and 18 years old. They will soon wish they could rewind the events and undo what they have done.

    • Oh my God ! Whats is wrong with young people these days ? Instead of working hard in life to be better than their parents they instead decide to kill them. The parents bought them in the world and this is the way they decide to pay them back ? I`m in total shock. It is people like these that makes me to be against the abolishing of capital punishment.

    • Zambia’s Mendez brothers!

lack of planning for young lives in Zambia leads them to alcohol and losing their minds. Those two boys should have been in college.

Ifibana ngafyakula kick them out of the house otherwise they want you dead so they can live in your house for ever.

    • This is a result of drug abuse ,hopelessness, and non existent job prospects.

In Zimbabwe such incidents were common amongst Mugabe’s pioneers as part of their initiations into the ZANU-PF militia wing to show that nothing would stop them from killing anyone once instructed to do so.

      Very sad indeed!

    • Our kids are on Xbox the whole day how can they not kill us, we all know the violence on those games but we turn a blind eye.
There is something demonic in the name Junior most of them are not normal . it’s junior this junior that.

    • Such things happen a lot here in the UK and America. Our Kids our copying the life on the fast lane. Not long ago a boy killed his shot his parents dead here in the UK and flew to the US to enjoy their money on the credit card. Its only when the boy was caught that it was discovered he had killed his parents.

Kids should be encouraged to be independent at a very young age. Send them to the village so they have a feel of a different life during holidays. Send them to your relatives in Shanties so that they experience what living on the breadline is. Without such experience they won’t appreciate how lucky they are to have you as their parents.

    • Its not even about poverty, its about the music and movies they watch from the west and also the cults they join. Proverbs 22v6 says: ‘Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it’. May the soul of their mother rest in eternal peace

    • Could it be that maybe the parents were BAD? There are so many abusive mothers and fathers in many societies around the country. Many parents were victims themselves who continue the culture of “beating seven bells out of their children”
I’ve seen some parents almost beat the living day lights out of their offsprings… kicks, punches, burns, insults, you name it. Thats what some of the children have to go thru till they dieced one day that enough is enough. Ka!?

    • My mother was a terror. I distinctly remember one time I had a friend over and we were just playing in my room when we heard my mom screaming. We decided it would be best to go outside to play, and on our way out of the house we passed by my little brother’s room. My mother was in there kicking him like a freaking football. He was about 9 or 10 at the time, and he was balled up in the fetal position in the corner with his arms up over his head trying to block the kicks, and my mother was just kicking away screaming incoherent nonsense. After my friend and I saw the scene in my house, as we were walking over to her house, she told me “We should just play at my house from now on.” I didn’t know what to say, so I just said “ok,” and we never talked about it again… My friend did start…

  2. AM TOUCHED AND SHOCKED.I HAVE NO WORDS BUT I ONLY WISH THESE BOYS ARE PUNISHED FOR THEIR SATANIC ACTION.EVEN SATAN CAN BE SUPPRISED WITH WHAT THEY HAVE DONE.

  3. This is the effect of watching the Cheap St.upid Nigerian Films – no ratings and children are entertained to unrestricted Open Witchcraft, Raw Sex Outright murders. May be those children thought they were merely acting and their parents were not going to die…it is really sickening!
Where is the ministry of commerce to clamp down on the sale of the fake movies? They are probably waiting for another murder.

    • Landakon fimbi chilyata. nigerian movies are also on dstv and many movies there show killings. nga rambo!? Unless u suggest dstv shud be done away with. Its just about childrens upbringing and morals.

  4. Shocking. An average young Zambian man will kill to DEFEND his mother, not the other way round. This must be a case of serious mental disorder coupled with alcohol and drugs. I am sure the father knows, and hopefully will testify, the boys must have a history of abnormal behaviour. Very sad and very abnormal indeed.

  5. I think it is not the first time these killers have killed… They have been doing it.. Just investigate them further.

The word of God is being fullfilled that sons and daughters will rise against their parents…

Jesus Christ, please come quickly… This world has gone to the dogs..

    • Iwe taubelenge nyunshi? Jesus Christ temuli ba ndakayi aleisa, umupatili ku Roma nalanda. However this story makes a very sad Reading. Dont just blame Nigerian Movies, its the entire Hollywood to blame!!

    • umupatili nshi alandile.. ABEPELEFYE …bushe tebalya aba nyenga tu kampenga uttwana twabene?

  6. Zambia is really turning into a satanic nation. Violence in Zambia is fast matching that of South Africa, one of the ten most violent nations on earth. Our moral fiber has broken loose and there’s now nothing to hang on to. How sad. With stories like this it’s freighting to have kids and having to watch your back all the time.

  7. Yaba! So evil than Satan himself, imagine your own mother nine months mu mala taking care of you, feeding you medicating you, the list goes on and then you turn around and kill I wish our mothers new who they are carrying ha! Am in tears bane this has spoiled my day only God knows!

  8. PROPER “”MISSED CALLS”” VIMAMBALA,MASHOLI,BAKAPIKA……………….!!!!!!!!!!!, for lack of superlatives.

  9. it is not nigerian movies. Cain murdered Abel when Ngeria was not even established. The scriptures in GENESIS 6 vs 5 still applies today. B warned and repent before it is too late.

  10. Very sad development ineed!
In as much as we are condemning these kids for what they did, there is need to look at where these kids are coming from. One of the things that could have led to this is how they were brought up by their parents. You will discover that there is a high chance, these kids were not brought up in the right way. They were probably spoilt by their parents in the name of showing them love. Their parents should have ensured that those kids where brought up in the fear of the Lord.

I am just speculating here. I don’t know exactly what happened but the points I have put up above could be amongst the reasons these boys acted the way they did.

    • Actually these boys were provided a good education. And mr katongo was a strict parent who tolerated no nonsense and I saw it first hand. But despite their parents’ effort to bring them up well these boys went astray due to influence of friends, drugs and alcohol. The older one was sent away from cbu. And the younger one expelled from nkana trust because of their wayward behaviour. So it was mostly due to wrong social influence

  11. Must have been a long buildup of psychopathology to all this , things like this dont just happen out of the blue. Wrong upbringing, wrong influences in society, lack of self esteem, poor education, etc etc all culminate in things like this. Its like a bridge thats been cracking away for years then suddenly collapses.

    • “Religious leaders capitalize on the ignorance of some parents in the villages just to make some money off them,”

“They can say your child is a witch and if you bring the child to the church we can deliver the child but eventually they do n’t deliver the children… The parents go back to the pastor and say, ‘why is it you have not been able to deliver the child’ and the pastor says ‘Oh – this one has gone past deliverance – they’ve eaten too much flesh so you have to throw the child out.’”

And most pastors charge a fee for deliverance — anywhere from $300 to $2,000.

  12. DRUGS AT WORK NO DOUBT. SAD DEVELOPMENT I THINK THE BOYS WERE DOING ANYTHING APART FROM DRUGS AND ALCOHOL. GOT FRUSTRATED BY PARENTS AND WMUDDERED TEM. THEY NEED TO BE JAILED WITHIN A MONTH YOU DONT EVEN WASTE TIME WITH SUCH EVIDENCE. HOW COULD THAT BE. THIS NOT WEST, ITS ZAMBIA WERE WE RESPECT OUR PARENTS. MY GOD HELP US AND DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

  13. These little sh!ts need to spend the rest of their miserable lives in prison with hard labour. Death is too good for them. They need to suffer!!!

    • @Dudelove

I am with you on this one my bro. Hard labour is not enough. They need to be sjamboked 5 times in the morning and evenings for 40 years only.

  14. Bembas???Why is this tribe always in bad things to surprised the great nation Zambia? Defilements,Rape,Murder,Robbery everything just under one tribe? What’s wrong with bembas kanshi?

    • What about General Kanene, Mushala, Roy Mudenda, Sipalo etc. Are they all bembas? Your hatred for bemba people is unwarranted!

  15. This is very sad and to every parent, we are reminded to raise our children in the manner that is pleasant before God. In the fear and Knowledge of God. Its alot of effort to bring up children in a godly way, but its all good effort. This is very sad. May those 2 boys repent. Their lives will never be the same again. We need to be praying for this nation and for our children. They must never turn away from their parents.

    • A SPOKESPERSON for the Vatican has officially announced today that the second coming of Jesus, the only son of the God, may not happen now after all, but urged followers to still continue with their faith, regardless of the news.

Cardinal Giorgio Salvadore told WWN that this years 1,981st anniversary is to be the Vatican’s last in regards to waiting for the Lord to return to Earth.

“We just feel Jesus is not coming back by the looks of it.” he said. “It’s been ages like. He’s probably flat out doing other really good things for people somewhere else.”

The Vatican defended Jesus’ broken promise, claiming “he was probably drinking wine” at the time when he made the comments….
      Quote: WW – News

    • continuation…quote: “Having the ability to turn water into wine had its ups and its downs.” added Cardinal Salvadore. “We all make promises we can’t keep when we’re drunk. Jesus was no different.”

The church said it will now focus attentions on rebuilding its reputation around the world, but will keep an optimistic mind for the savior’s second coming.”

  16. These are last days.Children turning against their parents.Parents turning against their children. This is the worst mayhem to happen in our nations.Children should be taught to have self dependance when they are grown up. It is folly of parents to nurse elderly children. When a child does not have anything to do,he should leave parents’ home.An idle man is the devil’s workshop. It is either he is at school or at work. What has happened is too ghastly to comprehend.

  17. …..I don’t understand what some bloggers want to mean by alluding to ‘upbringing of the children’…….its like they are trying to victimise the victim(parents)…..no parent would ever want to bring up offspring who would end up barbarians, savages, monsters…..all parents strive to bring out the best out of their children……the children end up being rebellious, external/environmental forces come into play, greediness come into effect…….

  18. I think you should stop playing this blame game. what about the thousands of kids who haven’t committed suicide or murdered while this things have been around. These kids are obviously greedy and lazy thought the could get the easy way out of life it clearly says they planned it out. they knew what they were doing they show no signs og remorse. most insane people cry when they realize what they have done. It’s jist sad. and also all the attention is being given to these boys but no one is thinking about this man who lost his wife , his two sons and almost his own life in one night. the only thing we can all do is pray for Gods mercy.

  19. This is very Sad indeed! Parents please let us educate these children – I do not mean formal education only. Parents should have meetings with their children on a regular basis – educate them about the current economic situation in the country, introduce them to church while young. Offer hope which hope can not be offered by the current regime. Good Luck parents!

  20. Iwe tondolo, have you ever heard a hoax on internet? That nyushi ulelanda is or was a hoax nyushi by some website developers… Dont it leterally dear… You will lose your if ever you have… God bless you.

  21. Hw on earth can u kill ur own MOTHER & almost fe same yo ue DAD, they ar ur patients. They was mo reason gor them to do that.. even if ur mother had to give up on work.. THESE BOYS HAVE TO BE PUNISHED… HARDCORE! !!!!!!!

  22. The mushrooming of bars in compounds has contributed to bad behaviours from our boys. The only entertainment they have is drinking beer and smoking. Colleges are very expensive and not every parent can afford the huge fees and job are hard to find. The problem for the youths is very critical in Zambia. I have boys am keeping at home its total hell am also scared for my life.

  23. The reporters left out the fact that the kids were high on weed, but that is no justification for what happened. And the man passed on yesterday noon….

  24. I know the 18 year old boy, he just completed school last year at MCM Nkana Secondary. I’m shocked that even after his parents educated him, he would go and kill them ukwabula no mwenso.. Where is God? Honestly? When you finish school, you are supposed to start making plans of how you are going to keep your parents especially your mother, not killing them.. I’m dissapointed at these boys.
I don’t know where this world is going. Mwelesa, twafweniko!!

  25. Poverty and unemployment levels are exceptionally high in Zambia. How can a Zambian teacher’s humble ‘wealth’ spark envy to the point of killing?

  26. It’s unfortunate that Zambian parents are destroying children in the name of love.A child is busy watching movies from morning until sun set.The result is failing to pass any single subject and hoping to get money from parents.
Please let us go back to the old days of bringing up children otherwise new generation will be spoiled.

  27. There must be someone behind this, there’s no way these 2 guys can do such a thing.he/she knew that once the parents dies the guys will rot in jail, then everything will remain….unfortunatly the father survived

  28. The fulfillment of the gospel”children will raise against their parents”Please repent before it is too late.Any time the world can end.”

  29. I turned 23 this year schooling at an international university in Thailand. All my life iv wished that my parents could have just survived until i was 18, i didnt i grow up with my parents both died when i was an infant, i was raised by my elder sister whom is my mother to me, upon hearing this tragedy it brought me to tears as to why these boys did this to their parents, wealth honestly by realizing that your parent is retiring, that has to ring a bell in your mind that now its time to wake up and work hard so i can look after my parents, now greed was with these boys more over that was their wealth the parents sweat their lives for them, now they wont even get a single penny, i say God forgive them and may the rot in jail, Youths learn from this……

  30. Yaba! what can we say? except to state that a trend is being set. Remember, the ZAF Colonel was murder in Mumbwa over his petition by his son?

  31. This is very SAD indeed. Its about time as parents we teach our children the realities of life. Children need to Know that they need to work Hard and for them to have a good Life. Am really surprised that Kopala has changed like this from being a cool placed I once lived. Shame!! Lets discourage these kinds of acts at all costs, there is too much foreign content on our TV’s and radio. This is where these children get there inspiration. Am sure these boys are school drop outs for them not to be in college and just home drinking.

  32. THE BLAME GAME MAY NOT BE THE GOOD THING TO SAY ON THE KATONGOS FAMILY,SURELY THIS IS JUST A VERY SAD SITUATION.I WANT TO TRY TO BE REALISTIC HERE.THESE BOYS MUST HAVE BEEN NOTORIOUS EVEN BEFORE THIS HORRIBLE THING HAPPENED,AS PARENTS THERE IS NEED FOR US NOT TO OVERLOOK EVERY STRANGE ACTION OR BEHAVIOR THAT OUR CHILDREN PORTRAYS EVEN IF OUR CONSCIENCE IS TELLING US THAT THEY ARE STILL YOUNG,TAKE CORRECTIVE ACTION RIGHT THERE AND THEN,I WANT TO BELIEVE THAT PREVENTION CAN BE BETTER THAN CURE.

  33. I have never been so disturbed, carrying someone in your tummy for nine months, giving birth is like life and death, come to nursing a one day old baby, all those smiles kisses and all that love not talk about education from nursery to grade 1 primary and secondary education all from your pocket kansi mum you are busy digging your own grave! RIP may the so called criminals receive their deserving punishment.

  34. I went to the same school as the wongani boy aged 18 years old . He was in my young brother’s class. To start with, this boy was given everything by his father. Trust me the boy is smart school wise.Am still in shock that he can do that..while i dont know his big brother but the wongani boy grow in my eyes.some of you are saying its lack of planing…you are wrong!!!!! Mr katongo planed a bright future for his boy.Am sure the boys lacked holy spirit…they stoped asking JEHOVAH GOD for protection in that satan took advantage of that and used them to the fullest. we are living in the last days so this can happen to anyone who is not asking JEHOVAH GOD for help in his / her life.

  35. The two *****s ‘sons” need to be hanged as soon as possible because what they have done is something un bearable to us Mukuba natwange residents

  36. Its rily sad..the 18year old was in the same clas wt my immediate young bro n they were close frnds so it gives me chills to evin thnk of the incident..and Mr.Katongo can’t b blamed for not raising he’s kids well,he’s a very gud teacher n u can tell frm that he wudnt want to spoil he’s own kids…wen am studying 1of the thngs that drive me is the fact that wen a I’m a succesful marketer I want to make my parents happy in every way I can for evrythng they do 4me,so am at loss for words at such an incident..
