Gen Funjika who died on Friday to be buried tomorrow

FORMER Zambia National Service (ZNS) commandant Wilfred Funjika, who died on Friday last week at Victoria Hospital in Lusaka, will be buried tomorrow.

ZNS public relations and marketing staff officer Lieutenant Colonel John Ndhlovu said in a statement issued in Lusaka yesterday that Lieutenant General Funjika, 67, died on May 23 after an illness and will be buried at Leopards Hill Memorial Park in Lusaka.

Gen Funjika is survived by a wife, Patricia, and seven children.

Col Ndhlovu said Gen Funjika was admitted to Maina Soko Military Hospital on May 20 before he was moved to Victoria Hospital where he died.

Funjika, who retired from ZNS in 2002, was seconded from the Zambia Army and appointed ZNS commandant in November 1991.

Gen Funjika will be remembered for having pioneered the introduction of the housing initiative and pre-school projects in ZNS.

“The housing initiative project was meant to encourage individual ZNS units to build own units as a way of alleviating the critical accommodation shortage in the service while the pre-school project was aimed at making early childhood education accessible to children of service personnel within the service units,” Col Ndhlovu said.

He said Gen Funjika was enlisted in the Zambia Army on January 6, 1967, and during his tour of duty in the Zambian defence forces, he rendered loyal and distinguished service to Government.
Col Ndhlovu said Gen Funjika contributed greatly to the peace the nation has enjoyed over the last 50 years.

  1. Why not mention the fact that he was jailed for abuse of office. This is information that people should know about, and there is nothing demeaning in mentioning facts.

    • @PF, but he didn’t die in prison. We never say anything about your leader’s criminal past, and we not mention all these things he is going to court to defend himself.

    • @PF Leader, those facts normally comes in a reflective obituary. When you are intimating there is hardly space to go through that narrative.

  2. Condolences Misa and the rest of the family… With you in thoughts and prayer.

    • Yes, I know Misa very well and went to UNZA with her, my heart goes out to the whole family. It is never an easy thing to lose a loved one. May God give them strength and see them through.

  3. What about his criminal record which includes stealing irrigation equipment from ZNS and diverted it to his farm, I have no tears to waste on the death of criminals , just like I did not shed a single drop when criminal No 1 Kafupi Chiuba from Luapula kicked his bucket. Another PF criminal is about o kick his bucket full of waste, we ‘re just counting minutes, Only fellow criminals , the likes of AIDS patient Winter Kabimba will mourn not because they miss him but because their dirty source of income will vanish. In short they will shed crocodile teras.

    • True son of Barosteland, you are a shameless demented sadist and hypocrite! Are you perfect? If no, then you are a true masochist and you should submit yourself to Chainama hospital. Gen Funjika, rest in peace.
