Secretary to the Cabinet, Patrick Kangwa, has called on public service workers across the country to uphold integrity, accountability and professionalism in order to enhance service delivery and accelerate national development.
Speaking during a church service held at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Lusaka as part of the 2026 Public Service Day commemorations which falls on June 23, Mr Kangwa said public officers have a critical responsibility to translate government policies and programmes into tangible benefits for citizens.
Mr Kangwa stressed that the public service must continue strengthening institutional capacity, improving coordination mechanisms and fostering a results-oriented culture that responds effectively to the needs and expectations of the people.
He said professionalism, innovation and ethical leadership remain key ingredients in building a responsive and efficient public service capable of delivering quality services to citizens.
“As public servants, we must remain steadfast in our commitment to serving the people with integrity, professionalism and dedication,” he said.
The Secretary to the Cabinet further urged public service workers to renew their commitment to the principles of good governance and service excellence, noting that the success of government programmes depends on the dedication and performance of public officers.
Mr Kangwa also encouraged public servants to use the occasion to thank God for the progress made and seek divine guidance as they continue serving the country.
He called on civil servants to remain united and committed to improving service delivery, especially as the country works towards expanding access to clean water, sanitation, education and other essential services.
Mr Kangwa commended public servants for their resilience and unwavering commitment to serving the nation, noting their vital role in delivering essential services and supporting Zambia’s socio-economic transformation.
He also encouraged public institutions to strengthen partnerships with the private sector, civil society organisations, local authorities and cooperating partners in addressing development challenges and improving public service delivery.
Ministry of Defence Chaplain General, Henry Matifeyo, called on public servants to remain committed to integrity, excellence and selfless service as they work towards building a better Zambia for future generations.
Delivering a homily, Brigadier General Reverenced Doctor Matifeyo said the 2026 theme, “Ensuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063,” challenges citizens and public servants alike to undertake actions that will benefit future generations.
“It is not about whether we will be there in 2063, but what we are doing today that will benefit our children and grandchildren who will inherit the future,” he said.
He noted that sustainable water management and sanitation are critical to climate resilience, economic transformation and agricultural productivity across the African continent.
Brig Gen Matifeyo further urged public servants to distinguish themselves through strong values, discipline and unwavering faith.
