PATRIOTIC Front (PF) Mufumbwe member of Parliament (MP) Stephen Masumba yesterday fired a gunshot in the air in Mangango to disperse suspected United Party for National Development (UPND) cadres, who allegedly attempted to attack him.

And Itezhi-Tezhi UPND MP Greyford Monde was allegedly beaten by suspected UPND cadres during voting at Mwanambuyu polling station.

Western Province commissioner of police Lombe Kamukoshi confirmed both incidents yesterday.
Ms Kamukoshi said police received a report of Mr Masumba firing the gunshot in self-defence.
“Generally, voting has been peaceful despite two incidents that we recorded. Mr Masumba fired a shot in the air to allegedly disperse some suspected UPND cadres who were pursuing him.

“And at Mwanambuyu, some confusion erupted but was quickly managed by our officers,” she said.
Mr Masumba said in an interview that a suspected mob of UPND cadres attempted to attack him between 08:00 and 09:00 hours in Mangango Central.

He said the incident happened as he was monitoring the voting process in the area.

“I was moving about monitoring voting in the area and from nowhere, some UPND cadres started following me. I don’t know whether they were intimidated by my presence or other unknown reasons.

“They blocked my way and the district commissioner for Mitete is my witness. The mob tried to attack me, to kill me, and in self-defence, I fired a gunshot in the air,” he said.
Mr Masumba declined to state the type of firearm he had but said the cadres were armed with machetes and sticks.

He said after the cadres dispersed, they re-grouped and mounted a roadblock to prevent him from leaving the area.

Mr Masumba said he reported the matter to police and sneaked out of the area using alternative routes.

Last year on New Year’s eve, Mr Masumba fired a gunshot at a night club in Kitwe to scare off some men who had been trailing him and allegedly wanted to steal his unique Land Rover Discovery 3.

The firearm he used then was a nine millimetre accommodating 17 rounds and black in colour.
And Mr Monde said cadres attacked him at Mwanambuyu polling station around 10:00 hours as he was inquiring why some polling agents were blocked from accessing the centre.
The Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Livestock said the cadres attacked him in the presence of police.

“We reported the matter to the police command. I was with Honourable [Freedom] Sikazwe at the time of the incident,” Mr Monde said.

Sporadic incidents of violence have been recorded in the run-up to yesterday’s by-election.

  1. Why are these PF;cks allowed to be caring guns. Even their Sata declared 7 guns as own assets.
Freedom Sikazwe was nearly beaten in Katuba, and was saved by gun fire shot, maybe it was Masumba. And yesterday same Sikazwe is under attack and watched Monde being slapped about like a thief.

  2. Masumba should be ashamed of himself. The muppet is a fraudster who is only out of jail for political reasons. He had no busy being in that area carrying a gun. This is not the first time this muppet is firing a gun in “self defense “.

As for Monde, he’s just a clown. If I were him I wouldn’t be in Mangango campaigning for PF against the party he “belongs” to. Isn’t this the same muppet who has challenged the decision to expel him from UPND? Why then did he get involved in this campaign just to get the other side agitated?

  3. Masumba is a 5tvpit person with his fellow pf leaders. My other advise to the people of Mangango is you must vote for a pf candidate in order for non bembas dominate so that the presidency should not be taken over by a bemba candidate again.Lets support pf us non bembas in order to take over the presidency, you know pf is a bemba tribal party. If we don’t join them it means even the coming president is going to be a bemba candidate.Wynter Kabimba has no support because he is not a bemba.lets just join them in order to fight them clearly.

  4. Funny how some you want to shift the blame on Musamba, we all know we have those unruly cadres who are simply criminals and will attack an opponent when they have an opportunity to do so. I’m glad he shot in the air to warn them, otherwise they would have pounced on him like the other Monde who had no gun. Tame those cadres and ban cadres if we have to have normal politics!

  5. Stephen Masumba and Greyford Monde are the classical example of imbeciles or halfwits recruited from Northwestern and Southern Provinces used by PF as sacrificial lambs to fight battles for which they do not know the objectives to be attained.

Is PF telling us that there are NO local politicians in Kaoma to explain the values of the party in Western Province? How many PF MPs from Northern and Muchinga Provinces featured in Mangango campaigns? Interestingly a few faces from Luapula were dotted in the battle field. Masumba and Monde are the headless craws which were floated to hover in risky skies as Kabimba and Mmembe enjoy their whisky in comfort.

  6. Is Hon. Monde still UPND? If he is not, let the seat be recontested. This kind of politics simply stinks primitivity and barbarism.

As for Hon. Masumba, which of the poor prisoners would be allowed to be out there and even carrying a gun. We are still thousands of years behind.

As for villagers in mangango constituency and other parts of Kaoma, they have a history of fearing govt. They stuck to UNIP for years before they were convinced that another party, MMD, was “the govt”. All the same PF’s infrastructure projects have been a pleasant surprise to many Zambians. With or without PF, let this continue. We could easily become an economic giant in the SADC region.

  7. Where is the Zambia police for this criminal to be carrying a gun and scare innocent citizens?. This is the legacy of PF government, intimidating, threats of arrests, and harassment of opposition parties. Where is the pride of governing citizens?. PF government is a backward step of democracy in Zambian history.

  8. I cannot imagine what would have happened if it was an opposition official who discharged the firearm! The whole “police command” would have come down on him like a ton of bricks, guns blazing and teargas all over the place. The Animal Farm indeed.

  9. This guy is supposed to be Prison Labouring and serving sentence not fire a gun at the polling station. The same applies to the thugs seen sometime back carrying chains. What has happened to them? I’m sure they are free and providing some service to Nduni Kabimba. This is justice gone bonkers .
