The Zambia Episcopal Conference (ZEC) says the best way to honor national heroes who fought for the country’s liberation as Zambia clocks 50 years of independence is to aspire to implement their aspirations of 1964 to free the Zambian people.
ZEC Secretary General Fr. Cleophas Lungu told Qfm in an interview that as the country celebrates its golden jubilee, no one should feel they are lving in a foreign country, be intimidated by the state or the Police, but that people should enjoy the freedom the country attained in 1964.
[pullquote]the best way to celebrate the 50 years of independence is to start afresh as a country by enacting the new constitution.[/pullquote]
Fr. Lungu said it is also the duty of the government to empower Zambians through education, and through the creation of jobs especially the youths.
He added that it is also important for the country to inculcate the values of democracy such as freedom of speech,freedom of association among others unlike what is prevailing at present were citizens are not free to do most things freely.
Fr. Lungu further stated that the best way to celebrate the 50 years of independence is to start afresh as a country by enacting the new constitution.
There goes the Voice of the voiceless. Jesus said I will give you power over Serpents. Other Church Ministers do not seem to understand what this means in real life.
A state like zambia deserves a respected, experienced man, well respected, loved, accepted, respected and trusted such as ….
That’s right president sata.
It will be folly, silly, backwards and uncanny for us to change a winning formula.
Congratulations president sata for leading to such a monumental achievement.
We salute you all. As Lusaka times readers on behalf of everyone here. Thank you
Thanks
ati fresh start, how can you have a fresh start with 70 something yrs old sick people ruling??? with ndoshi kabimba pushing for someone`s death so that he becomes president??,,, i mean look at shamenda,, unshaved!,,, fresh start impossible
@Mushota,
Yes you are vey right, ‘Zambia deserves a respected, loved and trusted president but unfortunately Sata lacks all the attributes you have listed.
How can you trust and respect a leader who has no respect for the people he is supposed to lead and each time he opens his mouth it’s only lies and his whereabouts are a mystery? By the way 50 years of independence is not Sata’s achievement, he is known to have been selling-out the freedom fighters during the struggle.
London Eye
Well float some names: We all have our shortcomings, needless to say with the freedom of speech more evident latterly, it has been abused by prominent unworthy websites such as the Zambian WD, if your denials are anything to go by.
Look I am here Impartially to call things in the middle, and i dare you to throw a name in Zambian politics of a man, more trusted, more experienced and accepted than Mr Sata
If you play sport, any, be it football, you congratulate someone who ‘scores’ albeit from all moves and hits , touches from other members. It is the PERSON who takes you to that magical number, the person who scores, the person who has to take the glory in achieving the ’50’ who MUST be congratulated,
It is an achievement by Mr Sata
Thanks
@Mushota,
A quick answer to your is, Sata is the worst ever Zambian president in every way.
By the way how possible is it that you have remained 27 years old for the past three years or so?
@1.5,
Should read ‘A quick answer to your question is’……..
How can one celebrate this important jubilee year in freedom with futile Anti-Corruption Commission making imaginary accusations on innocent citizens whom they intimidate by false court prosecutions which they fail to justify ending up by unnecessarily prolonging course of justice just to benefit from allowances from frequently adjourned court cases done outside Lusaka.
Arrrggghhh, this is a tired story. Some serious countries are thinking ahead, about the future – new technologies, new ways of fighting crime, disease and poverty. You in Zambia are still stuck with activities that took place 50-, 60-years ago for which only one man in the name of Kenneth Kaunda is worshiped night and day!
Such Moments are worthy celebrating. We need unity and peace in our mother Zambia. Change your citizenship and become a Briton or an American if you like. As for us Zambians, we shall celebrate the occasion. Hater!!!
Mushota, you are in a serious “Denial”. You have no authority to speak on behalf of all LT readers, speak for your self. From your attitude, and thoughts, through the writings, its hard to believe that an apple can bear apples, for you its like apples can bear lemons. You are bitter lemons in the eyes of your disguised RM and may his soul rest in peace
I am not in denial sir,
I speak on behalf of 10 million people, that is the majority bearing in mind zambia has a propulation of 16.46 million
A recent poll suggested PF is 64% popular, second 18% MMD, 11% UPND at 6% and others at 1%
These are FACTS and not things I am making up
I have an MBA, Msc, ACCA, CIMA, Bsc in Applied Accounts, and soon PhD and I am only 27
Thanks
Guys, any news on our president? why is he in isolation? is he suffering from Ebola?
A fresh start will remain an illusion bcoz our leaders only interest has been prestige of office and fame plus the income/perks that comes with it.You can’t get anything out of visionless and selfish leaders.
IF ALL PEOPLE IN ZAMBIA WERE LIKE MUSHOTA ZAMBIA CAN BE LIKE ZIMBABWE . WHERE EOPLE DANCE TO THE TUNE OF THE DICTATOR . MUSHOTA MAY BE WAS BROUGHT UP ON THE STREET . HE HAD NO PARENTAL GUIDE HENCE BUSTING LIKE AN EMPTY VESTAL. WALIKOLWA ICHISUSHI CHAKWA PONYA . EIMWE BASEBANA WIKUTE , MAKAKA . WE KNOW YOU ARE ON SATAS PAY RAW I DONT KNOW WHAT YOU SHALL DO BECAUSE SATA ALANENG’A NOMBALINE . 19TH SEPTEMBER IS NOT VERY FAR WE SHALL SEE HOW YOUR PRESIDENT LOOKS LIKE . COS HE LOOKS LIKE INKALO IYALASWA . GOD IS WACHING
Camikalipa shani? The choice of words says it all. Koma you are insulting Zambians who put the current government in power. So you are also on up and down’s payroll?
@Sabina Chiweno, it does not matter how a person looks like. the bottom line is he is the ruler and you cannot change that period.
Same organization which made us to in Egypt (pharaoh)
@Mushota, tell them. Pa Zed, too much jealous. @ London Eye, leave Mushota alone. Everyone has their opinion which should be respected. If you are a fan of Hingombe Hilede, that is your choice too.
We made a fresh start under Mwanawasa, we just need to get rid of the PF
The differences of opinion, approach or method between State and Church emerge as a matter of understanding (conceptual level). For instance, condom use, safe abortion or handshake in times of Ebola. From an ethical point of view, these issues are already resolved. But the Church may choose to agree to disagree based on commonsense or moral conviction. What is the way forward? it is better to work together and come up with inclusive programs.
