Zanaco have been ejected from the 2014 Barclays Cup after a shocking 1-0 defeat to Konkola Blades in the third quarterfinal match played at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka on Sunday.
Striker Humphrey Maseneko scored the all important goal that sent his Chilibombwe side into the semifinals of the only cup competition on the local football front.
Maseneko finished a fine move started by speedy winger Davies”Spacio”Kalandanya as he beat Zanaco keeper Lennon Muma with a powerful strike in the 79th minute.
The defeat left Zanaco ruing the several missed opportunities in both halves.
Striker Moses Phiri, winger Charles Zulu and play-maker Rodrick Kabwe registered their name in the culprit’s book as they wasted several chances for the Bankers.
Phiri saw his close range shot saved by Collins Chomba before Zulu’s strike minutes later went slightly wide taken from inside the box.
Nine minutes before registering his name on the score-sheet Maseneko had shot slightly wide with only goalkeeper Muma to beat.
This is a sweet victory for Konkola who were beaten by Zanaco in a league match earlier in the season.
