Zambia Under-17 Girls team coach Albert Kachinga believes Shepolopolo have the potential to excel at the 2014 Africa Women Championship in Namibia.
The Charles Bwalya coached team left for Namibia on Wednesday ahead of their opener against the hosts on Saturday afternoon.
Kachinga said Zambia can come out of Group A which as Nigeria and Ivory Coast as well.
“I feel the girls will do well. I believe they can come out second if not first, provided they apply themselves well,” he said.
“I think they will give the other teams a good run. They cannot be intimidated by names like Nigeria,” Kachinga said.
Zambia last week played two friendly matches against Cameroon in Lusaka- losing the first one 2-0 before forcing a goalless draw.
“I saw the girls play against Cameroon in a training game and I think they have improved a lot. Let them stay focused and concentrate on the training.”
Shepolopolo faces Nigeria on Tuesday before taking on Ivory Coast on Friday in their final Group A tie.
