  1. mmmmmm problems here my comrade zambians, why should britain fund our elections? Beacuse of Scott? Why not all along? but Now? mmmm God help us.We all know what to use when you want to fish.Lets us watch and pray.

  2. Indeed we have to be extremely careful with the turn of events in Zambia. Brits can do anything and they are very good at planning ahead which unfortunately we Zambians lack.

These guys, good as they may seem here are bad news. They can kill a human body, especially if it’s non-white ten times over and even killing the already DEAD body…

Beware mother Zambia otherwise the 50 years we recently celebrated could look like ‘children’s picnic’.

  3. Why now, when your son is the president. The colonialists just want to show that zambia had the best elections under a muzungu, meaning Zambians are not yet mature enough to rule themselves.

  4. @Mushota and Msazi: I appreciate where you are coming from. It’s is good to be suspicious of overtures from other countries but I believe that the British Government means well this time around. Importantly, the British Government understands that our 2015 national budget allocation to the presidential bye-election has not been finalized and may not be finalized in time for the presidential bye-election. Also, they understand that holding a presidential and full on general election 18 months apart is a very expensive undertaking. The alternative would be to raise taxes to finance the two elections. Instead of staring this gift horse in the mouth, perhaps it would be useful to accept the British Government’s offer of assistance!

    • @Induna

You must be. Insane or gullible. Actually both.

The tone is also patronising. Britain wants to see a smooth transition of power. Why? Since when do we answer to them?

Thornton is out of his diplomacy remit and must stop acting like he runs Zambia.

If Britain wants to help Zambia, they can prosecute Glencore and Vedanta, not offer us our own money paid into their economy by the two.

    • I really don’t understand UK.

There are people sleeping in the streets of London. People as old as 50years old, are moving back into their parents home because they cannot afford to buy, rent a house. UK has been told to build houses even by the EEC, but there is a great shortage of housing.

Why would they keep trying to enter into our political sphere?

      We must not allow this.

    • @Patriot Abroad: I appreciate that you may not share my view point on a matter, but hope you will find it in your heart to be respectful of your fellow bloggers in future. There is ample room for us to contest of our ideas on Zambia’s development, on condition that we do it respectfully and objectively.

Perhaps you can speak specifically to how the Zambian government will finance the forthcoming the Presidential election in the absence of this assistance from British Government.

  5. THEY WANT COPPER, BACK WHERE WE STARTED.

MOST WESTERN COUNTRIES ARE STRUGGLING BECAUSE THE MONEY THEY SUCKED OUT OF AFRICA HAS FINISHED. IT WOULD NOT BE SURPRISING IF THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT IS TRYING TO RECOLONIZED US AGAIN THROUGH GUY SCOT.

LET’S NOT AGREE. THIS IS A TRAP.

  6. Thornton, just keep your money until this PF Government has accounted for all the money it has already spent.

When you see it was all stolen maybe you will change your mind just like you did in Malawi!

  7. By elections are very expensive u pipo. Some pipo are susceptible about everything. Already P F is diverting Farmers money to their conference and student change. They just need to help.

  8. No! Zambians should refuse this at all costs. Even if the elections leave us in debt amounting to 2 billion dollars. It is better we vote on chalk boards than entrust our funding to a nation that started slave trade world over. A kingdom that destroyed the whole earth. Even the US is not free of the UK. Look at their language and the way the showcase the prince William family. The lot of you embicilic inferior complex Zambians above is sickening. Mushota you are a disgrace to a people and continent that gave refuge to Jesus Christ as a child. Also carried his Cross, Phillip of Asisi.

  9. In as much as we need the money, we should not accept the pounds with strings attached, watch the space.I agree with most of the bloggers who has seen danger in British pounds.

    • Thank you. It is comforting to now we still have Zambians and Afticans that respect hard work and true independence. Rather have China and their cheap goods that don’t last flooding our markets while we battle them, than have a leader in state house the UK shall control via lineage. No! There comes a time when men arise and peruse over female emotions like Mushotas. Mushota as a woman is brainwashed by money differently from a man. Women look at money as comfort and power due to not fully grasping history or the pathway her ancestors lead to her even being in Scotland. As men we can use money to develop our nation and wellbeing or pursue a woman’s softness truth be told. Abash useless Zambians like Mushota and her equally simple non patriotic cronies. Viva independence viva Monks and…

  10. BLITENI will fund the courts for SCOT to stand as president, some villagers will petition in COURT so UK WILL FUND THE JURGES WHO WILL RULE IN FAVOUR OF THE WHITEMAN

  11. Any Zambian thinking this is a good idea is the dumbest person since creation. We know which region of Zambia those supporting this nonsense originate from. Diaspora teaches one this; our brothers from the north fear independent minds of the western, eastern and southern provinces of Zambia. We do not bow before anyone due to skin color, we respect God, country, rule of law and hard work. Why do you think Eastern, southern and western provinces produce Zambia’s rice, maize, soya, peanuts and other food equity!? It is time as Zambians we change our focus and elect a Mwanawasa ruler. One bent on repaying our debt and installing the rule of law country wide.

  12. This good news. way to go mr thornton. elections are expensive but it is inevitable that we elect a new president democratically. as long as there are no strings attached, we gladly welcome this assistance!

  13. Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe has warned that colonialists and imperialists are coming back to Africa in the form of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs).

  14. It’s extremely unusual for a diplomatic mission to be offering money to run election!

  15. The British can fund this election as bonds of friendship are not easily broken. After all late Michael worked for them on British railway platforms????
