Patriotic Front (PF) Presidential aspirant and Youth and Sports Minister Chishimba Kambwili has become the latest candidate to withdraw from the Presidential race about to take place at the parallel extra-ordinary PF conference to elect new party president.
In a letter addressed to Acting President Guy Scott, Mr Kambwili said that he felt that the two elections used to elect the leader of the party did not meet the constitution requirements of the party.
Mr Kambwili said that in the interest of upholding the party constitution and unity, he had decided to disassociate himself with both elections and advised Dr Scott to quickly convene a Central Committee meeting to discuss the way forward on the party’s participation in the coming elections.

This Edgar saga reminds me of 1996 when UNIP opted not to participate in the general election because their Godfather KK could not be allowed due to the parentage clause. We all know what has happened to UNIP since then – it probably has more officials than members as FTJ used to sarcastically say. By not being in Kabwe today Edgar has just shot himself in the foot. IMHO this is the end of Edgar because he cannot form his own party as he is too broke to even find money to file his nomination – political appointments have been his livelihood. He just does not have the wherewithal to launch a national campaign without the full support of PF.
