United Party for National Development (UPND) Kasama District chairman, Jailos Tembo, has urged government to pay farmers their money.
Mr Tembo said the government should pay the farmers their money instead of detaining them in police cells.
He said this in a press statement released to ZANIS yesterday.
Mr Tembo said it is very sad that farmers are being detained by police after demanding their maize which they supplied to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA).
Last week, 30 farmers were detained by police when they staged a protest to demand their money for the maize they sold to the FRA.
The farmers, who were charged with Conduct Likely to Cause Breach of Peace, were only released after paying admission of guilty fees.
Mr Tembo said farmers need their money as early as possible for them to buy farming inputs for the 2014-2015 farming season.
He noted that government has been giving farmers fake promises from June, saying the situation was unacceptable.
Mr Tembo said the party in the province is pleading with government to give the farmers what was due to them

PF and MMD should not be allowed to delay the By-elections in January. Their confusion is NOT Zambia’s confusion. There is no chaos or confusion in Zambia, the Chaos and confusion is only in PF and MMD. Let us be clear about that!! UPND should not allow these idio!ts to try to delay the elections by any form of political dribbling. The Electoral Commission of Zambia should be put on alert that this Election will go forward without respect for who is ready and who is not ready. UPND should ensure that no injunctions against the By-Elections themselves are allowed. And finally, UPND should protect the votes of the people through international monitoring and parallel vote counting. Do not allow these Hooligans to dribble you because God knows they will try!!

My brother I salute you for your resolute support for PF in the wake of all their failures. The issue of paying farmers is really very simple to resolve. National budgets come out in October 9 months before the maize marketing season begins. Farmers could actually be paid the same day they deliver their maize if we Zambians were organized. So HH on this matter is way ahead and UPND is the way to go. Nevertheless, at least you are better than Frank Bwalya and Mulongoti in your consistence and you earn my respect for that alone.

This is yet another example of human rights violations. This regime is composed of cruel and unsympathetic people with no empathy what so ever. They have no shame. How could they lock people up for asking for money owed to them? This noke of a government needs to “hit tbe road jack don’t you come back no more no more no more.
What do you expect with town dwellers like Lungu,Sampa and Mafia leader Nsanda,who have no slightest idea how difficulty it is to grow maize.All the know is Kutobela Nshima with Munani Beef.They don’t understand that agriculture is a business.Forgive God, but remove them from office so that HH the farmer NO.1 can show them farming can create employment through agric value addition.
Am a female farmer from Kafue who supplied 500x50kg bags of maize to FRA. I planned to use the proceeds from FRA to buy seed & fertilizers and expand my hecterage. But hearing PS for Eastern Province Dr Mulenga disclosing to farmers in Chipata that Govt used our money for Sata’s funeral makes me conclude that the wrangles in PF are partly due to misuse and theft of funds. A group that got less fighting those that got more. Why is Simuusa, Chikwanda, Scott, Wina, Simbyakula and Lungu quite on the plight of farmers instead they are setting the police on us and are dragging each other to court? Hena bantu aba tabahi kuti bulimi nipulazi idula? (Don’t these people know that farming is an expensive business venture)
To answer your question, I say, No bacembele, aba bantu ncobeni tabazi pe. For them farming is a pass time.
What is wrong with Panga Family? first they remove subsidy on mealie meal , now they collect maize from farmers-mostly peasant and they dont to pay for it. Their end is near
