Man beaten for wearing UPND t-shirt being escorted

Fifteen people have been apprehended in connection with the beating up of a man dressed in UPND party regalia and smashing of two vehicles by criminal elements at the intercity bus terminus.

According to a statement issued to Qfm News by the Police public relations unit, the 15 are currently being screened.

Police say all those who will be confirmed to have been involved in the incident will be arrested and taken to court.

And the Southern African Center for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD) has condemned the said attack on the unnamed UPND member.

Executive Director Boniface Cheembe has told Qfm News by telephone that his organization believes that such acts of violence at a time political parties are conducting campaigns ahead of the presidential election are undesirable.

Mr. Cheembe says his organization is of the view that Zambian politics have matured to a level were political parties are not supposed to be engaging in violent acts.

He says SACCORD’s call to all political parties is therefore that they desist by all means from engaging in violence as it is not only undesirable, but also intimidates would be voters.

The SACCORD Executive Director has since cautioned political parties against creating violent environment during their campaigns to avoid rendering the presidential election not free, fair and credible.

    • Iam informed it only took a mobilised team of UPND to apprehend them. What about the Police? This system for sure has to be wiped out come january 21st.

    • This should send a strong message to the poor youths that are used to commit such violent acts. 50 years after independence and some people still can not conduct peaceful campaigns, really shameful.

    • Good to hear that Lungu ‘s imported violence from Mugabe’s Zimbabwe has been thwarted by alert and the fearless UPND well wishers.

Even the police I hear were ashamed for the UPND to have effected a citizens arrest instead of them.

If the police is not going to be proactive in identifying such potential hotspots of violence before they occur or indeed effect an arrest after they have occurred, then UPND will step in to fill the void and restore sanity.

      Viva UPND and HH.

    • Lessons should have been learnt already when the world previously saw those PF thugs with thugs. What has happened to them remains a big mystery up to now. The PF is made up of Kabovas and supports violence .

    • What happened to the thugs we saw earlier with chains ? Have they been jailed or are they walking the streets of Lusaka causing trouble to innocent people.

  1. PF cadres seem too strong for our Police. Just what has gone wrong in our country. They can beat people. They can demonstrate without a permit. They can openly move around with pangas

  2. Unfortunately Zambians wante to still vote for such a political party. Anyway, this shows why the country is at this level of backwardness.

  3. I’m sure these UPND Mapatizya boys instigated the fight and got the beating they deserved. PF is for Peaceful Friends (PF) but dont provoke us anyhow

    • @ #Kudos, this is Zambia for heaven’s sake and the Intercity Bus Terminus of Lusaka is a public connecting hub.
#Kudos, does it not matter even a bit in your sick heart that it had to take your own PF Guy Scott to complain at a meeting in Lusaka that those PF thugs who brutalized FELLOW PF members en-route to Kabwe had not been arrested due to political interference, for “Zambia SS, oh Police” to do something. Yet you are not even ashamed?!.
COME ON #Kudos, you really must have an evil mind to not see the thuggery and EVIL in your PF. But then again that has been the mode of operation by PF, and I am not surprised.

  4. that is lungu’ action he is a real thug trying to show his colours . UPND should also mobilize very strong youths because the same illiterate fools like their leader will threaten the would be voters like what they did in 2011

  5. Countries that have problems with extremists started with groups like these but got stronger and out of control. To solve our problem in our country, GET RID OF PF and these thugs will be powerless. Good day.

  6. I am for Lungu!

If this is pf doing then it is very shameful. I would rather not vote for pf than harm my fellow zambian or any person for that matter.

  7. @SOS, you seem reasonable.

Can you please explain why EL should be an attractive candidate to me. Three points only.

    Thanks

    • @OneZed

Three reason for voting for EL, in no particular order, are as follows:

      1.

      2. ; and

      3.

      Additional reasons would be

      4.

      5. ; and

      6.

      Hope this helps.

  8. Between no road and peace, I would choose peace. The only thing that PF has given us are roads and continuing cadreism from where MMD left it. Please we can coexist with our divergent political views without engaging in violence. That man you beat has a tight to support whosoever he wants. By treating him as you did, you’ve lost a vote or more. The era of vigilante is long gone and whosoever wants to take us there is surely going to kiss the dust. PF are busy making a pile of mistakes and not so long from now they will put a last nail in their ruling coffin.

  9. ADVICE FOR ZAMBIA POLICE:Voilence is not good for our peaceful nation.although these cadres are from pf what they are doing is not a call for pf leadership. Police rise up and do your work.why can’t you stop these cadres wearing military attires? Berrets, boots carry authority .this is how militialism starts.only state and private registered security should be allowed to wear this attire. If the situation is left unchecked at this stage, don’t be suprised when Lebanon- type- of- state emerges where different militia groups exist where Hezbolla is untouchable by state

  10. OneZed should u also explain why your HH in 2011 got 1 700 and 2 400 votes in both Luapula and Northern?then 17 000 in copperbelt where PF got 341 700?in Lusaka why HH got 54 000 against 241 000 for PF?if u answer these question then u wont complain about bus stations and markets in urban areas being under PF!the fact is your UPND cadres are entering places where PF presence is massive!

    • Get a Brain then you will know they have a right to be in any public place. Trouble is we have too many Ediots and ussholes playing politics in Zambia. Your reasoning is very disappointing for this time and age

    • BECAUSE WE ALL TEAMED UP TO BOOT OUT MMD. TO TELL U THE TRUTH, I CRIED WITH JOY NOT KNOWING IT WAS A MISTAKE. I LEARNED OF THE DONT KUBEBA SLOGAN WITH A RUDE SHOCK. NOW ZAMBIANS ARE GOING TO TEAM UP AND BOOT PF OUT OF THE STREETS.
THEREFORE EVERY SENSIBLE ZAMBIAN SHOULD VOTE FOR H H. PERIOD.

MR DJ, PLAY FOR ME ANOTHER MOSES BY ISRAEL VIBRATION

  11. iam afraid the police may not do their professional work if they do let them go to the core of this and chase all cadres at bus stations and markets to avoid intimidation of peaceful citizens let them also identify which pf side is sponcering the violent cadres as for me its upnd and hh for my vote 20 janaury 2015

  12. The rule of law has broken down under pf and we still have some imbeciles who still believe in pf,I cant comprehend it,are they from another planet or what? Under this pf our children are not safe. Police are scared and this woman IG is really a dumb dog that not bark even when a thief is breaking into the masters bedroom. What is the IG doing in that chair,,God help us.

  13. @Onezed,
    1. Pf has borrowed huge sums of money for infrastructure development I want these projects to be successfully completed. Edgar will come in handy
    2. Edgar lungu released the draft constitution with only one month in office as justice minister. Assuming we give him full control he can do better.
    3. Edgar is approachable, humble and reasonable.
    4. Edgar is a peace loving man save for some cadres.
    5. Edgar is a wise gentleman, he outwitted the likes of Guy Scott, 9 pf presidential hopefuls and the cartel, against tribalism and all odds.
    6. I don’t like “anything” the post or zwd supports.
    7. Pf is transforming into a national party , come 23 jan 2015 we will have the new deal pf under bwana lungu

You may choose any 3 from the above

  14. After 22nd January_all police commissioners, police IG & her depute Jere including home affairs minister MUST Arrested for perpetrating anarchy & crimes against humanity.Surely the PF mUST be voted out please & all the crimes MUST be critically investigated & people responsible must be taken to mukobeko without foul playing. These PF thugs are secretly sponsored by their illiterate leader & no one should cry foul because they know that they are doing crimes. The minister of home affairs is really useless including the whole police command. Surely these *****s must be jailed without bail.We pay tax for protection & they even get full salaries & allowances without doing their jobs-they are criminals & our MPs are suppose to protest for that its only that our MPs…

  15. Sorry eddy I am not UPND.

I cannot explain why fully explain why those results turned out they way they did. However, I can only speculate. The electorate was tired of joblessness and corruption under RB, while the promises of Sata seems to have connected well with the grass root, especially pa CB. With voters often using their ethic rulers to judge candidates, in 2011 PF got 73.5%, 67.9% and 64.2% in LP, CB and NP, while MMD got 72.6% and 50.3% in EP and NW and UPND got 71.4% in SP.

Truth: PF has performed below expectations.
Question 1: Which party will pickup the votes lost?
Question 2: Why should I vote for EL?

  16. One thing people should understand it is not about pf, no wonder cadres like father walya are left in the cold. It is about an individual in this case EL. He will be an independent man once he gets back the instruments of power, legacy is but politics (think). No two people are exactly the same.

Today’s politics do not guarantee you future happenings. Do not be shocked if EL works well with HH

  17. Kudos to Guy Scott and Director Boniface Cheembe! Way to go guys! (see, I give credit where it’s due regardless of party affiliations)

  18. @SOS
    1) I’m looking forward to successful infrastructure outcome too. Not sure that if EL understands the debt implications. He has never articulated this mix.
    2) I respect him for releasing the draft constitution. He should have shown true leadership by proposing a road map and explaining the delay. PF suffers low credibility on this.
    3) I see this as his only strength. I give this one to him.
    4) His ascendance to the top should be something no one should be proud of. How can they manage affairs of 14.5 million if they have trouble managing a convention of 5,000.
    6) Such blanket positions are not healthy for a reasonable PF supporter. Nonetheless, I despise the Past Newspaper and think ZWD is has no morals.
    7) EL confessed to having no vision of his own for the party.

  19. Once lawlessness a void in the security of ordinary citizens is allowed, there will be no reverse and nobody will be a winner, including the perpetuators of violence. Human life will become cheap and easily dispensable and you will see the emergence of militias and death squads the Somali or Mexican way.

  20. Tongas why do you like insults? This is why your president has found it difficult win elections. If you can call someone an embacile how different are you from those thugs. Are you not ashamd that Lungu can be more popular than HH? work on your ability to respect others pliz.

  21. This is the legacy left by Sata and EL wants to continue on this vision of thuggery because he has no vision of his own. PF is a party full of thugs. Look at their comments among the bloggers, it contains only mind of people planning genocide. The step taken by UPND is the best otherwise PF cadres are a menace to the national peace we have enjoyed for the last 50 years as a liberated nation

    • Indeed, people say he’s humble & what have you, they shower him with numerous praises but why can’t he openly condemn this behaviour like his mentor once did? A Lungu what’s your opinion on the matter ? You don’t seem to care at all!

  22. Now Edgar, Kalaba and Nsanda can not be trusted!! watch out and monitor the boarders so that they don’t import voters from Zimbabwe and else were. These are now criminals and do anything to rigg election. Thank to Scott for not associating with!! These guys are dishonest and greed!!

  23. Zambians be patriotic. Forget about your tribe or selfish reasons. Look at the current state of affairs where poor PF cadres of the same political party fight till one is killed and buried. If PF can manhandle their own ministers and public officers, where has our country gone to? Is that what you want to see continue happening? am not surprised if UPND is harassed as PF fights to death even among themselves. Therefore, its not because PF cadres hate UPND, its the level of lawlessness the country is sliding to. The country is going into a dangerous trend. Forget your interests and vote wisely. If this is what is called PF political experience then I would rather try a new person that will respect human life. As Jesus said you’ve got eyes but can’t see, ears and can’t hear. I end here.

  24. IWE KA TRIBAL eddy!
BECAUSE WE ALL TEAMED UP TO BOOT OUT MMD.

  25. I don’t understand why PF supporters always resort to violence as opposed to debating issues to sell their vision, assuming there is any!
